RATING 3,5 out of 5 stars
For the first time ever, Shane is not looking forward to the annual Boxing Day barbeque at Matty’s house. He recently divorced, none of his friends know what to say to him now, and Shane is tired of the pity and awkwardness. Things take a turn, however, when he meets Matty’s English cousin. Neil is struggling with the Australian heat, having left the UK after a bad breakup. When Shane suggests the two of them head to a secluded beach to cool off, the growing intimacy between them might make both reassess their current situation.

I’m not a huge fan of Christmas in general but I adore Christmas stories, I can’t wait for this time to come and get my full of quick romances. Barbies and Beaches is one of the first I read this year and surprisingly the first title I read by this author.
This being a very short story, just twenty-one pages, I wasn’t expecting a lot; really, there is no space for so much development or to know a lot about the characters. That said, these few pages easily and clearly showed me how Shane and Neil met, how they spent their first Boxing Day together, and then why Neil, although the heat, decided to stay in Australia. Sure, things between these two young men happens quickly, but the epilogue at the end showed me how deep they were into each other.
Barbies and Beaches is a short holiday novella, I liked the little plot and the writing.
The cover art by Brooke Albrecht is simple and bright, I like it.
