Potential Reviewer Q & A

“When we are young, the words are scattered all around us. As they are assembled by experience, so also are we, sentence by sentence, until the story takes shape.” – Louise Erdrich

Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words is growing and with it, the need for reviewers.

If you love books and would like to review for ScatteredThoughtsandRogueWords, either as a guest reviewer or as a ScatteredThoughts reviewer, please contact MelanieM at melaniem54@msn.com. And send a sample review too! That would be helpful.

Q.  How long do I have before I need to turn in a review?

A.  Turnaround Time:  usually 2 weeks from date of receipt of story.Q & A

Q.  Do I have to follow a format?

A. Yes, see the format below.

Reviewer Details:

  • Here is the format we use:
    Review Title
Book Synopsis (sometimes the blurb the publishers use don’t actually fit the book)
Review (ARCs can be pre release and contain editing and punctuation errors so I go easy on those)
Cover artist: does the cover work and do you like it?
    Book Details
  • All our reviews should be professional in tone, fair, and objective as possible.
Our Rating Scale is 1 to 5. See the scale listed on the other page.

Q. Who owns the rights to my reviews?

A.  The reviewer or author retains the rights to their works.  See the paragraph  below.

  • Reviewer Rights: ScatteredThoughtsandRogueWords believes that intellectual property belongs to the author, no matter the literary form. I consider your reviews the artistic property of the reviewer and not ScatteredThoughtsandRogueWords. All reviews for books that I supplied to the reviewer have to be posted at my website first. The name of the reviewer and ScatteredThoughtsandRogueWords will be clearly posted at that time.
All reviews here automatically go out via Twitter, Tumblr, and Linkin first. Then to Amazon and Goodreads. Should you wish to post the reviews you authored yourself separately at different sites, then there will have to be a delay in timing scheduled. Those negotiations should be trouble free and easy. We will work those out in advance.

Finally, as all are probably aware, the books supplied to the reviewer are not be used for any purposes other than as a review copy. To protect the authors and publishing houses, please do not pass them on to third parties. They are supplied for your use only.

  1. I would to be a reviewer. I have posted on Amazon and Goodreads. I would be honest in my review and would not, of course, pass them on to other people. I have not reviewed a book with belittling comments to the author. In the event I could not finish, I would in turn let you know.
