Confronting the past is never easy.

Cole Whitaker is happy. He has the job and boyfriend he always wanted. His heart’s in no danger of being broken, and he can’t ask for more from life. As a kindergarten teacher, he sees it all; however, one troublesome student has him reaching out to the parent, wanting to help. There’s something about Savanah that tugs at his heartstrings.

He never expected her father.

Zander Brooks hasn’t had an easy life, and he’s made some mistakes. Freshly retired from the military and working as a firefighter, Zander thought he’d left Cole in the rearview mirror. He’s not expecting him to appear in St. Petersburg, Florida, of all places, teaching his daughter’s kindergarten class. Suddenly, his biggest mistake is being shoved in his face.

This is Zander’s chance to close a door he’d never fully shut, but time with his former flame might change his mind.

Excerpt

Time had done nothing to dull Cole’s memories of Zander Brooks, though he wished it had. His stomach rolled, and he had to lock his knees to keep upright. Breathe, Cole, you’re being dramatic. Of all the places for them to see each other after nearly two decades…. It was some consolation, a very small amount, that Zander appeared equally as shocked to see Cole. He stood in the doorway, unmoving and silent, his lips parted. Cole could feel Zander,s gaze on him like a physical touch. It made his skin prickle, his heart skip a beat. He was supposed to be over this.

Cole needed to find his words. He was a professional, and whatever personal history they’d had, it was just that. History. It was irrelevant in this room. He played pretend with his class sometimes. He could do that now. He cleared his throat, feeling a bit like a cat with a hairball. “Hello, Mr… Emerson?” It was less confident than he’d been going for, but it would have to do. Zander took a minute to noticeably reorient himself. He walked into the classroom slowly. His pace could even be considered hesitant. Cole tried to ignore the observation, the nagging surge of satisfaction that he wasn’t alone in being off kilter.

From behind him, Savanah snorted. Cole glommed onto the excuse to look away from Zander and turned to her. Savanah’s pert nose was scrunched. “Can I play outside?” she asked, gaze darting between Cole and her father.

Jesus. Zander was a father. Zander was the father who Cole had been wanting to meet. If Cole didn’t regulate his breathing, he was going to have a full blown panic attack. He’d been in love with one of his student’s fathers. He’d had his heart broken for the first time by him. Seventeen years later and it somehow still stung. “No, but you can use one of the stations,” he said, hoping he didn’t sound too strangled. He ran a hand over the back of his neck, damp from sweat. He thought it was possible he’d had a nightmare like this before.

Savanah pouted but went in silence to the reading corner. She made sure to scuff her shoes over the carpet on the way.

“It’s Mr. Brooks,” said Zander, sounding much closer. His voice was the same, deep and smooth like velvet. It sent parts of Cole’s insides fluttering in a way he hadn’t experienced in years.

Cole retreated under the guise of picking the workbook and pencil off the floor. Savanah had Goldfish crumbs littered around the legs of her desk. “Ah, I see. My apologies.” He aligned the book and pencil symmetrically on the scarred desktop. A few of the workbook’s pages were crinkled now, folding in on themselves. He tried to smooth them down and noticed in the process that Savanah had been working ahead. He made a mental note of it.

He was going to have to stop delaying and face Zander eventually. Could he play this off like he hadn’t recognized Zander or was that cat long out of the bag? “Why don’t you take a seat? I’ll be right with you.” He cupped his hand at the edge of Savanah’s desk and used his other to sweep eraser crumbs into his palm.

“Uh.” Zander coughed, shuffling his feet and rustling his jeans in the process. “Here?”

Cole managed to look at Zander at last. His lips even twitched into a half-smirk of their own accord at the picture of Zander squeezed into a child-sized seat. The smirk didn’t last long. Zander was too close. Cole could make out the nearly golden striations in his irises, could see the slow progression of his pupil taking over the brown. He had a scar at his temple now, a jagged slash from hairline to the arch of his eyebrow. Stress lines looked to be permanently etched in the dark brown skin at the corners of his eyes and mouth. If Cole didn’t know better, he’d have said he was staring at someone in their forties. The years they’d been apart had not been overly kind to Zander.

Strangely the realization left Cole with a hollow feeling, a tinge of… disappointment, maybe. He’d been angry with Zander with every fiber of his teenage being, but buried underneath had always been a quiet hope that Zander would figure out how to be happy.

Clearly he’d not.

An Ali Release Day Review: Shifting Views (The Carlisles #4) by Meg Harding

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
shifting-viewsSuccessful fashion model Denver Carlisle is finally living on his own. He’s got a new apartment, a neighbor who has a problem shutting his blinds, and a local bakery with an owner who makes his knees weak. It’s raining men, and Denver hasn’t gotten any in a long time. Going out on a limb, he asks Ethan Monahan out and resorts to a little exhibitionism for his neighbor. Only to be turned down by both. That’s a first.

Ethan Monahan runs his own bakery and has a new neighbor who walks around naked. The latter is a little too distracting. When his naked neighbor turns out to be none other than model Denver Carlisle—and the customer who asked him out—Ethan tries to make amends. In a purely friendly way.

Friendship leads to more, and both men find themselves in over their heads with emotions and compromises. Denver has trust issues that could span the Sahara, and Ethan is a product of the foster system with a chip on his shoulder and a serious wariness of those with money. There’s only one way to reconcile their issues: work together.

I really liked this book.  A lot.  It ended up being my favorite book by this author.  It’s the fourth book in a series about the Carlisle brothers but it works fine as a stand alone.  If you’ve read the previous books then you’ll be happy to see the other three couples in this one a bit.  This story starts with Denver being a bit adrift after Dorian moves in with his boyfriend (from book three).  Denver is not used to being apart from his twin and while he’s happy for his brother, he’s a sad for himself.  He doesn’t want anymore meaningless flings, he wants the serious relationships that all of his brothers now have.  A variety of things happen that lead him to ask out the neighborhood bakery owner, Ethan.
Ethan has had a difficult upbringing and he doesn’t trust anyone with his feelings.  He puts 100% of his energy into his business.  When Denver asks him out Ethan figures he’s way out of his league and declines Denver’s offer of dating.  He does end up deciding they can be friends.  This part of the book made me smile more than once.  These two are horrifically awkward.  They’re like two teenagers.  I thought this was a unique and sweet path for the book to take.  So many romances are filled with alpha males who are full of confidence and have all the answers.  These two stutter through things they’re trying to say and worry about what they’re going to do next.  Their internal monologues were funny and charming, especially Denver’s.
Once they slip into dating things heat up dramatically.  While they may be awkward with talking they aren’t in the bedroom.  These two have great chemistry and they burn up the pages.  As the relationship goes on they have some challenges, both in regards to their pasts and in regards to Denver’s job.  They handle this but communicating and this was also a pleasant change from the angst and drama often seen in romances.
I thought this was unique and super good and it’s definitely a book I would recommend.
Cover Artist: Garrett Leigh, Photography: Dan Burgess.  I love the cover.  I think it looks great and it fits them them of the story also.

A Lila Advent Calendar Review Day 14: Cursed Miracles by Meg Harding

Rating: 4 stars out of 5

cursed-miracles-by-meg-hardingTwo hundred years ago on Christmas Eve, William Mashinter was frozen in time, cursed by his wife to roam the world on his own, waiting for the love of his life to find him. The love of his life, whom she killed. Time hasn’t healed this wound, and William is tired of the happy holiday and the constant reminders of a love that’s been taken from him. But then the impossible happens, and maybe… maybe he can get a new Christmas perspective.

Brady Gallagher has lived three different lives, always aware of the first and most important, yet unable to find the man who will fill in the missing pieces and let him know he’s not crazy. He encounters him at a work event, of all places, but is he willing to throw everything else to the wind and embrace the miracle laid out before him?

Cursed Miracles is a lovely short story. One, I hope the author re-writes into a full-length novel. It has all the elements to keep the reader’s attention longer and brings questions of what ifs? The fast pace and those open-ended questions were the only reason this wasn’t a perfect five for me.

I love the idea of two lovers having to find each other to get their happily ever after. William is a strong narrator. We get to experience his pain over his marriage and the resulting separation from Brady. Plus, their love when they get reunited and through the epilogue.

I like the secondary and supporting characters. The author did an excellent job giving the story a nostalgic feel, setting the historic time frame, and bringing them into the future. The real reason behind the cursed isn’t revealed until later in the story, but it makes sense. Overall, this is a great little story to get you in the mood for the holiday season.

Catt Ford did a beautiful cover. It goes with the period in which Brady and William first met and fall in love. The color scheme also matches the dark feeling of the cursed.

An Ali Release Day Review: Checking It Twice (The Carlisles #3) by Meg Harding

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
checkingittwicefs_v1Closeted professional hockey player Eric Belanger is falling hard for an out-and-proud male model. He’s unable to resist Dorian’s charm and pushing personal boundaries he never thought he’d cross. But Dorian is the kind of guy who deserves someone who isn’t afraid to be himself. Eric’s fears about what coming out will do to his career clash with the future he hopes to build with Dorian. He knows he’ll eventually have to make a choice.

Dorian Carlisle knows better than to date a man who wants to keep him a secret, but there’s something about Eric he can’t ignore. So he’ll take the risk, and it’ll be all right, because this isn’t a forever romance. He’s happy to live in the moment. But somehow, at some point, feelings sneak up on him and he’s not okay anymore. At a breaking point, Dorian must also make a decision. Their time together will either be the start of something wonderful or nothing more than a happy memory.
Eric and Dorian meet on a photo shoot and are immediately attracted to each other.  Eric is in the closet and doesn’t have the first idea about flirting or dating but he clumsily tries to get to know Dorian.  There was something charming about how Eric bumbles his way through things.  Dorian is a little older and at first has no intention of getting to know Eric because he knows dating a closeted professional athlete is going to make him unhappy in the long term.  As the story unfolds you understand why Dorian ends up falling for Eric and you understand the inner turmoil that Eric is going through.
This story is both a bit angsty and a sweet love story.  I really liked both of the main characters and each of them were really likable guys.  I understood both of the points of view and I felt for both of them.  There are a host of side characters in Dorian’s family and Eric’s family and teammates.  All of them were well done and there were no stereotypical bad guys as there often are in these types of stories.  Some of the characters were ones who were featured in the first two books of the series.

I really enjoyed this book.  I hadn’t read the first two books in the series so I wasn’t sure what to expect but this went really well for me.  Even though I hadn’t read books 1 & 2 I was easily able to follow along.  This book is fine as a standalone.  I liked this one enough that I will go back and read the previous books.  This book is a definite recommend from me.
Cover by Reese Dante:  I like the cover a lot.  I think it is nice looking and the models for Eric and Dorian perfectly fit how they’re described in the story.

Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words is happy to have Meg Harding here today.  Welcome, Meg, and thanks for agreeing to answer our author questions and talk about your latest release, Checking It Twice.

checkingittwice_headerbanner

Thanks for interviewing me today, Melanie! Checking it Twice is the third in my Carlisles series, and we’ve finally reached the point where the twins are getting their HEAs. Dorian’s the first to fall, and he breaks a lot of his rules in the process.

  • Where do you normally draw your inspiration for a book from?  A memory, a myth, a place or journey, or something far more personal?
    1. My inspiration for Checking it Twice came from hockey, pure and simple. I love the game, and it’s inspired me to branch into sports romance. A lot of hockey players tend to date models, so I thought doing a twist on that would be interesting.
  • Are you a planner or a pantzer when writing a story? And why?
    1. Pantzer all the way. If I plan beforehand I feel like I spend too much time thinking, “Well, I said I was going to do that and if I want to do what I have planned next I have to make this bit work the way I planned…” It’s a vicious cycle.
  • Contemporary, supernatural, fantasy, or science fiction narratives or something else?  Does any genre draw you more than another when writing it or reading it and why does it do so?
    1. When it comes to reading, I’m a fantasy/supernatural girl all the way. Give me werewolves and other worlds, and I’m over the moon. I like the aspect of being put in the mindset of an alternate reality. As for writing, I’d really like to branch into supernatural and fantasy, but contemporary has been calling to me.
  • If you had a character you’ve written you would write differently now at this time in your writing career, who would it be and why?
    1. It’s not so much I’d write the character differently as I would add his perspective. I’d want to show Flynn’s side of things, from The Last Favor. I based him off Sherlock, but I think not giving him a voice of his own allowed that to kind of slip.
  • Can a author have favorites among their characters and do you have them?
    1. Definitely. Sometimes there’s just that one character that hits a little closer to home. I do have favorites among my characters. I don’t think I could pick an overall favorite however, but I’m awful at that kind of thing.
  • If you were to be stranded on a small demi-planet, island, or god forbid LaGuardia in a snow storm, what books would you take to read or authors on your comfort list?
    1. I’d take a Wrinkle in Time—it was a favorite of mine growing up and it remains one to this day. I’d also take Speaker for the Bees, not really a book but a fanfic that makes my heart do really weird things. If I got into the list of all the fanfic I would take, I’d be here all day, so I’ll end with this series which is the best thing to ever exist, all right.
  • How early in your life did you begin writing?
    1. I’ve got notebooks somewhere with half finished stories dating back to when I was like seven. If I have a say, they’ll never see the light of day. Def not my best works lol.
  • Were you an early reader or were you read to and what childhood books had an impact on you as a child that you remember to this day and why?
    1. I grew up taking turns reading with my mom. She’d read to me, and then I’d read to her, back and forth for hours. I was and still am obsessed with Nancy Drew (my dog is named Bess after a character). Inkspell blew my mind and made me cry so many tears. Eragon… broke my heart that one did.
  • If you were writing your life as a romance novel, what would the title be?
    1. Can this be anymore awkward? ~ I’d like people to say it in a Chandler Bing voice.

Excerpt

Somehow Dorian’s name got tossed into the ring for a winter clothing line spread in some sports magazine, and now he’s on a set in downtown New York City with five big, hulking hockey players. A few of whom are pretty damn hot, and the majority of whom aren’t American. He can admit he’s a sucker for an accent, and it’s a little distracting.

Jackson, his brother, flicks his nose. He stops staring at the tall European guy who’s talking to the tall French Canadian, who has his shirt off and an abdomen that Dorian would pay to be able to lick. He scrunches his face up at his brother, mimicking the judgey look being thrown his way. He can’t believe Jackson took this job. Isn’t it bad enough that he has to work with Denver—his twin—more often than not?

“What was that for?” he asks, gaze already trying to return to the guys. He can’t help it. He’s innately wired to appreciate beautiful things.

“I’m trying to do your makeup, and you’re making it difficult. Stop looking at the toys you can’t touch and look at me.” Jackson grabs his chin and tilts his head just so, wielding eyeliner in his other hand like it’s a weapon.

Dorian pouts, sticking his bottom lip way out. “You don’t know. I could touch them.” In my dreams.

Jackson gives him a stern look, which is ridiculous since he’s a year younger. Dorian should be the one giving the parental stare-downs. “Hands to yourself. Professional athletes are never a good idea. Now open your eyes wide and don’t blink.”

It takes a lot of self-control to not sneak glances at the hockey players while they get dressed and their makeup gets done. And well, he just doesn’t have that control. So he manages a peek or two. The whole process is a lot of clothes coming on and off, muscles flexing, watching stylists run their hands through gorgeous hair. It’s like being in a candy shop and getting told you can’t have anything. So not fair.

Dorian can list on the fingers of one hand the things he knows about sports, and all of it mostly has to do with what the balls look like and the overall purpose of them: score goals. It’s not that he’s not interested—well, okay, he is—but he just doesn’t have the attention span for it. He’s done jobs with plenty of athletes, both male and female, and their sports sound interesting enough when they talk to him about them. It just doesn’t translate to him watching it.

His lack of interest isn’t normally a problem, but athletes are a peculiar lot, and sometimes that makes working with them difficult. They have a hard time understanding the shoot isn’t about them. It’s about the photographer’s vision. The designer’s vision. It’s about serving a purpose. And then there are the times where it’s like they’re speaking a whole other language.

Like now.

A Jeri Review: Dinner for One by Meg Harding

Rating: 4 stars out of 5

Dinner for OneBastien is head chef and part owner of a VERY French restaurant that has gotten nothing but rave reviews, has lines out the door and a reservation list months in advance. James is a food critic for a well known newspaper and gives Bastien his first not so rave review. No big deal right? Until James buys a pastry from Bastien at his nephews base sale and is shocked to find out that the pastry chef and the restaurant chef are on in the same. Even worse, he is incredibly attracted to him.

Bastien and James begin a romantic relationship. And it is rather sweet and romantic. Being that one is a chef and the other a critic- although Bastien doesn’t know that- much of their relationship revolves around food. How very French!

The deeper they get the more worried James is for Bastien to find out who he really is. The guy who panned his restaurant.

Some of the things I really liked about this book: the sex is hot hot hot! So hot that Bastien reverts to French while in the throes of passion. Whew.

Both James and Bastien are very close to their families. I love that. I love that Bastien is always there for his sister and niece and that James has a brood of siblings to go to. It was all very sweet, but very realistic.

THE FOOD! Don’t read this book while you are hungry. Seriously. It is akin to grocery shopping while hungry.

The relationship was very equal in my opinion. There was never one man trying to woo the other while the other sat back. Well, until after the big fight.

Speaking of the fight. The way James goes about trying to win Bastien back is just perfect. Seriously perfect. It was so sweet, so perfect. And Bastien’s answers to everything were wonderful. A bit vague, but you really need to read it.

My only nit picky, didn’t like a lot things: Bastien seemed to get out of work pretty early usually. For a hot restaurant in NYC, he wouldn’t be walking out the door until at least 1am in not later. Not 10. And except for a one here and there, James seemed to abandon his critic job while he was with Bastien. How else to eat elaborate meals together late at night?

For a switch, no one is a jerk, no one is in the closet, no one was abandoned by family for being gay. All around it was a new, refreshing read. And I believe there are more in the series to come. Making my reservation now.

The cover art by Reese Dante is absolutely perfect, with the two men in the background and yummy food front and center.

An Ali Review: Hat Trick by Meg Harding

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars

Hat TrickNathan Barres has always loved hockey before anything else. When a one night stand with Felix Moore gives him emotions, he flees the scene. He’s not expecting to see Felix ever again. So when an injury knocks him out of the game for several weeks, he’s less than pleased to see the Winnipeg Wolves newest trainer is none other than Felix.

Almost two years later, and the feelings are still there. Nathan does his best to shove them to the back burner and ignore the temptation Felix presents. That is, until Felix makes him an offer that’s just a little too tempting–with amazing results. He’s a hockey player after all, and they’re nothing if not superstitious. If Felix is his good luck charm, who is he to resist?

I am a gigantic hockey fan and therefore a fan of hockey stories.  I had high hopes for this as I had read this author before and enjoyed her work.  Unfortunately this book didn’t work for me.  The main characters were very immature and I had a hard time reconciling that with their jobs and responsibilities.  It didn’t seem realistic to me.  My main issue was that the entire plot is based on super bad communication.  It was to an extreme level and was ridiculous in my opinion.  As previously stated they had important jobs.  Nathan was the captain of the hockey team and would have to be able to communicate well, as his role is to talk to the referees and advocate for his team as well as to provide motivation and guidance of the other players.  Felix was a team trainer and would have to be able to communicate with the players as well as the coaches and owners of the team.  So how they couldn’t have simple conversations was beyond me.  There were a whole bunch of small things that bothered me also and some were petty, but once everything added up it still led to an overall lack of enjoyment of the book.
Cover by Ginny Glass. I do not care for the cover of this.  The overall design and the guy on the right side were fine but the guy on the left looks like a professional wrestler, not a team medical staff member.

Our Author & Book Spotlight: Meg Harding on Inspiration and ‘The Last Favor’ (author interview and giveaway)

The Last Favor

The Last Favor by Meg Harding
D
reamspinner Press
Cover art by Bree Archer

Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words is happy to have Meg Harding here today to answer a few questions and talk about her latest novel, The Last Favor.  Welcome, Meg!

********

Hi and thanks, Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words, for having me 🙂 I’m excited to give readers a glimpse into the craziness behind me and how stories like The Last Favor get created.

• Where do you normally draw your inspiration for a book from?  A memory, a myth, a place or journey, or something far more personal?

For me, the inspiration for every book tends to be different. It’s whatever happens to pop out at me at the time. Normally it’s rooted in personal feelings and interests. I’m the type of person who, when I’m busy, thinks of eighty million other things I could be doing, and more often than not I get an idea that pops up, and I like to run with it.

• Are you a planner or a pantzer when writing a story? And why?

I’m a pantzer all the way. I’ve tried to do outlines for stories before and what that leads to is me focusing too much on “Well, when you started you said this was the direction you wanted to go” when the characters aren’t feeling it. I work based on what feels right at the time I happen to be writing it.

• Contemporary, supernatural, fantasy, or science fiction narratives or something else?  Does any genre draw you more than another when writing it or reading it and why does it do so?

Oddly enough, my preferences for writing and reading are different. I prefer supernatural/fantasy books for reading because I’ve always had a love for things outside of the box. I love the idea that there’s more to things than reality, if that makes sense. For writing I tend to veer towards contemporary. I’m honestly not sure why.

• Can a author have favorites among their characters and do you have them?

I think an author can. I do have favorites, and they tend to be the characters that are the most awkward and unable to understand their feelings.

• If you were to be stranded on a small demi-planet, island, or god forbid LaGuardia in a snow storm, what books would you take to read or authors on your comfort list?

This would be a ridiculously long list if I had all day to write it…. Off the top of my head, I’d say Falls Chance Ranch would factor pretty high up on the list. Gena Showalter and Lynsay Sands would be on there too. And anything by Margaret Weis or Tracy Hickman. Oh, and Shelly Laurenston.

• How early in your life did you begin writing?

I’ve been writing since elementary school. I read a lot of fantasy and poetry when I was younger, and I’d tell these stories to myself when I was bored.

• Were you an early reader or were you read to and what childhood books had an impact on you as a child that you remember to this day and why?

I was. My mom and I used to alternate reading chapters together probably until I was 11 or 12. And before I could read, she’d read books to me every evening. Cornelia Funk’s books and the Magic Treehouse series are probably the two that stand out to me the most. I remember wanting to be Cornelia Funk at one point.

• What question would you ask yourself here?

How can you write normal conversations when you have such a hard time talking to people yourself? (I wouldn’t be able to answer, tbh. But I’d like to know.)

• If you were writing your life as a romance novel, what would the title be?

I Tripped and Fell.

BlurbThe Last Favor

Fast forward to the present and Andrew is knee-deep in preparations for his sister’s wedding. When an ex-colleague calls to ask for one last favor, the last person he expects to walk through his door is Flynn, in need of a place to stay. Only thing is, Andrew can’t say no.

Two weeks of wedding hijinks bring back all the old feelings that have simmered below the surface. Caught in a cycle of fighting and making up, the two men try to figure out if there’s anything they can salvage. And even if there is, Andrew can’t be sure this time will be any different.

A Stella Review: The Last Favor by Meg Harding

Rating:  3 out of 5 stars

The Last FavorThree years ago Andrew Wilson and Flynn Barnett were in a relationship, until Flynn made a mistake that nearly cost Andrew his life. Andrew walked away from the FBI, his home, and his partner, and started over back in Montreal, running a restaurant.

The Last Favor was my first book by Meg Harding and overall it was  good reading. Being a fan of   second chance at love stories, I couldn’t miss this novella, plus I’m always looking for new to me authors.

The blurb tells you pretty much everything you need to know so I’m not going to linger on the plot more.

First of all what I liked: the secondary characters were the winners for me, I like big families like the one of Andrew’s, and in the chaos the preparations for his sister’s wedding, they were crazy, frenetic and a little protective and meddlers, just how I like families to be.

I liked how the author laid out the starting part, showing me how Andrew and Flynn met, how they were close in their relationship, and how this ended and why. It gave me all the facts soon, allowing me to make up my own mind on the characters. At the same time I saw their mistakes and their stupidity. Let’s be honest, Andrew is forty but a little childish, he should have approached the situation that led them to the end of their relationship (but not of their love) in a different way and not leave Flynn with nothing said.

What I didn’t like: first of all the verbal form, I often had issues with the use of the present, in this case especially it put a stop to my reading, a slowness that left me not so convinced of the whole story. At times I was a little bored too. Moreover IMO this novella needed to be more engaging, I wanted more of them together and alone. I wanted more explanations between them because at the end they overcame three years apart without even a deep chat. It basically misses a good tempo.

Still, I found The Last Favor a good story and I’ll surely read more of this author works. Something in the style caught my attention.

The cover art by Bree Archer is well done and so bright it showed me hope.

Barb, A Zany Old Lady Advent Story Review: A Trip to Remember by Meg Harding

Rating: 4.5 stars out of 5

A Trip to RememberColin is so determined the blizzard that grounded his plane will not keep him away from sharing his Christmas vacation with his parents that he sets out in his car instead. Big mistake—just outside of Toronto, his car skids off the road, and he has to resort to lugging his suitcase to the nearest shelter he can find. It happens to be the home of Logan, a gorgeous, well-toned fitness instructor who is also snowed in but not foolish enough to venture out in his vehicle in a major blizzard.

Practically falling into Logan’s arms, it takes a while for Colin to defrost, but when he does, he’s struck by Logan’s acceptance, allowing a stranger in his home. He’s also struck by Logan’s sense of humor, his cooking abilities, his love of hokey Christmas movies, and of course, his gorgeous body.

As the two make it through the next few days, they learn quite a bit about each other and strike up a friendship. When their natural chemistry gets involved, there’s more on the burner than just Christmas dinner, and when the snow stops, they’re ready to look forward to a future together.

This is a sweet short story, one of the 2015 Dreamspinner Press Advent stories, and I enjoyed it immensely. The author did a great job of character development and provided a believable situation which led to two men finding their way to a HEA. I highly recommend this one to warm your heart on a cold winter day.

Cover art by Bree Archer.  One of the few different cover. Delightful.
