An Alisa Review:The Ides of March (Seasons of Change #3) by Michelle King

Rating:  3 stars out of 5

A spot of Irish Magic, the kiss of a leprechaun, and a love is reborn. Years ago Colin and Kelly had parted ways in the most painful of ways. Years passed, thousands of miles stretched, yet the pain caused by those hard words refused to ease.

Adulthood brought opportunity.

Colin returned to the place of his teenaged years, Portland Oregon. And there, at the St. Patrick’s Day celebration, he heard a familiar sound. An Irish ballad he’d once taught to his young love. He followed the sound…to his Kelly.

The song Kelly’d been requested to sing did nothing but rub the unhealed scab that was his heart. Colin had taught it to him, and he could only think of Colin when he sang it. Still, money was money so he sang…wishing all the while that his love was not half a world away. Or was he?

Could that be true? Could that really be Colin? Could he believe in March Magic?

But Kelly’s lover wasn’t the only thing that arrived from the past.

Kelly is still trying to get on his feet from everything that happened to him after Colin left years ago.  It seems that he hasn’t had a good life and his parents made it even worse for him and it continues to this day.  He can’t even begin to hope for anything to go his way.

I felt like I was missing a lot of back story while I was reading.  We see little glimpses of what has happened in the past through Kelly and Colin’s thoughts but I didn’t feel that I could put it all together.  Colin seems determined to stay in Kelly’s life but the story is left very open ended so anything could happen.  At the end we see the connection to the characters from the last book and I hope that a future story can put it all together for me.

Cover art by GD Leigh is nice and follows the pattern for the series.

An Alisa Review: Rockin’ the ‘Nog (Seasons of Change #2) by Michelle King

Rating:  3 stars out of 5

rocking-the-nogKyle had been riding in the back of Logan’s cab for months—so he could become a familiar face among Portland’s rent boy culture for his case. His job as a county prosecutor often made relationships difficult and his gayness continued to be a stressor, law of the land or not. More problematic, the driver of the cab Logan was triggering every bit of interest he had.

What he wouldn’t give to be able to touch and taste that guy…but no. He was there for his case. And getting a blow on the “down low”, while enjoyable, only took the edge off.

Twice a month, Logan drove the city attorney around Portland’s seedier streets, playing tour guide to the man he’d come to like. To really like, and wanted to “like” more.

Earlier that week, Logan had received a text canceling this Friday’s trip into “the Dark Side.” Canceling a cab ride was fine but he wasn’t interested in canceling his time with Kyle. He’d already formed a plan for their evening that began with a glass of eggnog.

Kyle plans on spending the holiday weekend pretty much drinking his trouble away while at home alone, however Logan isn’t going to let that happen.  These two had great chemistry in bed, but had trouble putting aside other worries in their real lives.  I think their time together just kind of became like an escape from everything else.

We get to see how both characters are thinking and feeling, but I wasn’t really left with the impression that I knew the characters all that well.  The story has connections to the author’s Portland’s Men series and I was thinking it would be more along those lines, but with all the background the story had these men didn’t really seem to be doing more than getting together for the night with only the slight possibility of a future.  For a short holiday read this is a nice story, I was just expecting something a bit different.

Cover art by GD Leigh is a great picture of Blau and Rob.

An Alisa Review: The Pirate’s Cove (Portland’s Men #2) by Michelle King

Rating:  3 stars out of 5

The Pirates CoveJamie loves Morgan and he has for years. He just couldn’t tell anyone about it. Now he’s finally free, and he wants to tell everyone. Starting with Morgan. But what if Morgan doesn’t want to commit? After all, he’s been keeping Morgan his dirty secret for years.

Morgan DJs at The Pirate’s Cove on the weekends. It’s the perfect place to meet up with his lover. At least… so Jamie hopes.

Jamie has been meeting secretly with Morgan at pre-arranged times for years.  They both have loved each other just as long, but never expressed their feelings.  When Jamie is finally free to be with Morgan his ex wife begins to cause problems.

It’s easy to see how Jamie and Morgan feel about each other when they are together.  I liked this book because it shows how far some people will go to get their way and how it affects others.  My only complaint is that most of the story was spent on the search and work for Jamie to get his children back and for a short story it didn’t leave much room for Jamie and Morgan’s relationship.

Cover art by GD Leigh is eye catching and is part of what made me interested in the book.
