A VVivacious Review: Tournament of Champions (Daniel and Ryan #10) by Tamryn Eradani

Standard

Rating: 5 Stars out of 5

Daniel and Ryan meet each other’s sisters and Ryan convinces Daniel to participate in their company’s Jeopardy tournament as Daniel realises that their relationship is no longer just between the two of them.

I loved this story. It was so uniquely different from all the other books in this series. This book in the series has no conflict between Daniel and Ryan but the story still manages to grow and we get to see a whole new side of Daniel and Ryan’s relationship.

I loved this story a lot. I especially loved the scene where we get to meet Daniel’s sister Ashley and Ryan’s sisters Rebecca and Kara because despite the fact that these three are characters that have not been developed over time these three still managed to hold their own against Daniel and Ryan. That entire scene is exceptionally well done and I can’t wait for Daniel and Ryan to meet each other’s parents.

On the whole, this story made me so happy. I don’t think I remember a sex scene between Daniel and Ryan that wasn’t a scene so that was very nice and unique, to see Daniel lose control in a whole new way and just God it blew me.

This story really made me realize not only how far these two have come but also how far they will go.

I am a little worried that this might be the last book in the series and I have completely missed the memo because for the first time since I have begun reading this series the excerpt at the end was of another series by Tamryn Eradani.

If this is the end, it was incredibly well done. Through all the ups and downs of this series, though the ups far outnumber the downs I have really begun to understand these two characters and along with them, I have fallen in love with the relationship they have created.

If this is the end, thanks for an incredible series and if not, I still can’t wait for the next one.

Cover Art by Natasha Snow is amazing as always.

A VVivacious Review: Testing the Limits (Daniel and Ryan #9) by Tamryn Eradani

Standard
Rating: 3 stars out of 5
Daniel and Ryan get back to basics after an intense threesome.

I feel like this is going to be a short review because when you are reviewing the ninth book in a series you have almost certainly said everything you can about the things that define the series as a whole but sometimes when I write reviews I discover a whole hoard of thoughts while typing up so who knows.

This isn’t my new favourite in the series and that makes me a little sad because unknowingly after reading the last one, which I thought for sure I would hate but in reality ended up loving, my expectations might have gone up, so this one was a little disappointing.

This story is one big scene, a very intense scene but a scene nonetheless. So there isn’t much story development and this story reads as an effort to get back to basics after that insanely intense threesome. Also, Ryan kept bringing Brett up during the scene which was a little weird, to say the least. It didn’t seem to be in character with Ryan to be insecure and considering how he flipped my entire view on the threesome with his perspective it was really off-putting. In fact, I felt like the author kept bringing up Brett to make it clear that that threesome hadn’t changed the equation between Daniel and Ryan. But the thing is I already knew that and this felt like an unnecessary reminder.

All in all this story is a pretty good scene but the fact that it was following the story arc which has progressively seen more and more momentum in Daniel and Ryan’s relationship was a bit of a letdown. The author has kind of been teasing the whole meet the family thing in the past two books and I really wanted more along that angle.

The next book seems to be more of a story rather than being based around a scene so I am curious to know where that takes us.

Cover Art by Natasha Snow. I love her covers.

Series Daniel and Ryan #9

A VVivacious Review: Caught In Between (Daniel and Ryan #8) by Tamryn Eradani

Standard

Rating: 5 Stars out of 5

Daniel wants to be overwhelmed and he wants to know how it will be if they add a third. But thinking about that particular scenario has him overwhelmed in a completely different way. Will Daniel be able to pose his quandary to Ryan and most importantly what will be Ryan’s response?

Wow, considering how much I was dreading this one, it was pretty amazing. In fact, it might be one of the very best of this series.

I know I made a lot of hue and cry in my last review about how things were all of a sudden moving too fast mostly because I didn’t think Ryan and Daniel were ready for this. But what this story unquestionably proves is that they are ready, they are comfortable enough in their relationship with each other that they can bring in a third for a night of fun.

I loved how the scene was set up. It was delicious. The setup for the scene and scene itself had to be pretty spot on considering my thoughts on the whole affair but I am glad to say that my apprehensions are unfounded.

But my absolute favourite thing about this book was that the whole storyline was an amazing way to showcase how far Daniel had come along in their relationship because all of a sudden his motivations have changed. Instead of wanting to do what Ryan tells him to do because it makes him happy he now wants to do things Ryan tells him to do because it makes Ryan happy. This was something I never expected would come forward in this particular storyline but seeing how amazingly it was incorporated, made me question how I hadn’t ventured down this particular avenue. Also seeing their relationship at such a turning point really helps contrast Daniel’s feelings very well.

Now I can’t wait for the next one because as Daniel points out all this just proves how far along Daniel is in their relationship but where exactly is Ryan in their relationship and I truly can’t wait to have that question finally answered.

Cover Art by Natasha Snow. I love Natasha Snow’s covers they are exquisite but this particular one doesn’t only go very well with the theme for the covers but fits the storyline perfectly, like to the point that the cover seems like a scene from the book.

Series Daniel and Ryan #8

A VVivacious Review: Weekend Getaway (Daniel and Ryan #7) by Tamryn Eradani

Standard
Rating: 4 Stars out of 5

An idea from Ryan regarding a scene can’t seem to get out of Daniel’s head. He wants to try it out but among the safety of strangers, so Ryan and Daniel make a weekend trip that will either end in disaster or make for one very sexy memory.

This review is the review of the book as well as the excerpt for the next one. Because you can’t drop a bomb in the excerpt and not expect it to have an impact.

I was so inordinately happy after reading this story and then I read the excerpt and I was like – Oh! This is too fast and I know how that sounds because in most reviews for this series I am like things are going too slow but seriously you can’t lull your readers into liking the slow pace you have set for your series and then start springing atomic bombs on them.

There is just too much happening in the next one, there might be a meet and greet with a family member and a very surprising addition to Daniel and Ryan’s sex life. I feel like this is no longer the review for the “Weekend getaway” but more like the review for the excerpt of “Caught in Between” which is a fitting name because that is exactly how I feel.

But if I could get my mind off the excerpt I would tell you that this short story was extraordinarily well written and well paced. There is a lot happening and I loved seeing Ryan and Daniel’s relationship progress so far. Daniel is so much more trusting of Ryan and I felt like these two scenes that they share in this short really pushed the boundaries of their relationship and their sex life but alas I can’t tell you all this because that excerpt completely short circuited my brain. All I can think about is the logistics of the thing, suggested by Daniel in the excerpt, happening.

I had these pretty little butterflies bouncing about in my stomach after reading the last line of Weekend Getaway because at that point I was feeling blissfully overwhelmed and happy considering how far Daniel and Ryan had come about and I was all ready to write an amazing review when I read the excerpt and the butterflies in my stomach transmogrified into vampire rats infected with the bubonic plague.

Okay, I might be exaggerating but I have no idea what to expect from the next one in this series. This particular book was amazing but I am really unsure about “Caught in Between”, but I guess the I will just have to wait and watch.

Meanwhile this particular short is independently a very nice addition to this series and I loved reading it as I hope you can tell but I am pretty nervous about the next one.

The Cover Art by Natasha Snow is amazing and I love the new series of covers for this

Chapter One

Daniel’s on his back, legs splayed wide, Ryan kneeling between them with a wicked smile playing across his lips. Ryan’s sleeves are rolled up to his elbows—they’re going to be horribly wrinkled when they’re done with this—but Daniel can’t gather the breath to complain.

Ryan’s had him on edge for what feels like forever, skimming his fingertips over Daniel’s hole in a dirty tease. Every once in a while, Ryan will drag his knuckles down the length of Daniel’s cock like he’s afraid Daniel’s erection will flag without constant attention.

Just having Ryan in the room with him is enough to keep Daniel hard at this point. Daniel wishes he knew what Ryan wants. Does he want Daniel to break down and beg? Is he testing to see how long Daniel can go without being tempted to touch himself? Does he want Daniel to try so he can slap Daniel’s hands away?

Maybe Ryan’s winding Daniel up so he can deny him. They don’t do it often; Ryan doesn’t get how Daniel can like it so much, and Daniel doesn’t want to spoil himself, but sometimes Ryan will spend hours teasing Daniel so he can tell him no and see if Daniel listens.

Daniel always listens.

His cock throbs at the thought, and he bites down on his bottom lip to keep from asking. It’s not his place to ask. He can’t help the want in his eyes, can’t help the way they plead with Ryan as they meet his gaze. He’d consider it a weakness, except Ryan likes drawing reactions from Daniel’s body. He knows Daniel doesn’t like being vocal, so he gauges his interest in other ways—how he moves into a touch, how his body trembles when he has to work at holding still. How his eyes beg when he wants something particularly badly.

Ryan smiles, fond, and wraps his fist around Daniel’s cock until just the head is poking out. Daniel’s breath comes in short pants and stutters out completely when Ryan bends his head to press a kiss to the tip.

It takes every ounce of Daniel’s self-control to keep from coming. His hands are fisted in his sheets, as if holding on to the fabric means he’ll hold on to the fraying edges of his control.

“I want to suck you,” Ryan says, breath ghosting over Daniel’s cock, “but that would be cruel given what my plans are for you.” Ryan slides off the bed before he holds a hand out to Daniel.

It takes a moment for Daniel to unclench his hands, to ease up on the death grip he has on the sheets, but when he does, he puts his hand in Ryan’s and lets the other man help him stand up. He doesn’t know what they’re doing next, and excitement buzzes beside worry as he watches Ryan for his next cue. Lately, he’s been giving more and more control over to Ryan; not just in scenes but in the planning of scenes.

Having a…partner, someone he scenes with regularly and talks to outside of sex, means that they know each other well enough to start reading each other’s moods and wants. Daniel has a pretty comprehensive list of things that Ryan likes and knows his hard nos, but now he can tell whether a work week is going to make Ryan want to put Daniel on his knees when he gets home and just have Daniel warm his cock until he’s unwound enough to fuck him or whether fucking Daniel hard and a little bit messy is exactly what he needs.

And Ryan’s picked up this uncanny ability to practically read Daniel’s mind.

“Time to get dressed,” Ryan says, and Daniel’s eyes are drawn to where his clothes are sitting in a sloppy pile on the floor. This is what happens when Ryan gets him undressed. “Complaint duly noted.” Ryan puts Daniel’s clothes on the bed so Daniel won’t have to bend down for them and then he backs off, letting Daniel know that he’s on his own for this.

Daniel’s slow as he steps through the leg holes of his briefs, even slower as he drags the fabric up his legs. His eyes flutter shut as the soft material touches his overly sensitive skin. His body works against him now; desperate for relief, every nerve ending is on high alert, waiting for just enough stimulus to tip him over the edge.

He’s careful as he pulls the rest of his clothes on, and it’s a struggle to go slow enough he doesn’t overwhelm himself but not so slow that getting dressed becomes a tease of its own. Pulling up the zipper on his jeans is the worst; pressure and a little bit of pain, as it presses his erection into place, but as soon as he pops the button through the waistband, he feels settled. He feels contained, like he can do this.

Whatever this is.

He lifts his gaze to Ryan, unable to help his smile when he sees the pride in Ryan’s eyes. He did that. He put that look on Ryan’s face.

“Absolutely incredible,” Ryan murmurs, stepping forward so he can cup Daniel’s face in his hands. “I wonder how far this composure goes.” Ryan taps his fingers against Daniel’s skin. “I wonder what you would look like walking down the street like this.”

Dread washes through Daniel, sharp and cold, and it effectively kills the erection Ryan’s worked so hard to keep up. Some of his panic must show on his face, because Ryan goes from teasing to concerned in seconds.

“Not good?” Ryan asks, easing Daniel down so he’s sitting on the bed.

“Not good,” Daniel agrees. Because what if they’re walking down the street and run into Tracy? Or what if they pop by the grocery store and their boss is there? He can’t. Not when his control is this fragile. Ryan likes the fragility of it, and he might punish Daniel if it breaks, but he won’t mock him. Won’t think worse of him for it.

If anyone else…

No.

“Okay,” Ryan says. “Okay, that’s a no go.”

“Sorry,” Daniel says.

“Nothing to be sorry for,” Ryan assures him. He crouches between Daniel’s legs so Daniel doesn’t have to crane his neck to look up at him.

Daniel knows he doesn’t have anything to be sorry for. He doesn’t even know why he apologized in the first place. They both have hard limits, both have soft limits, and sometimes they stumble on them accidentally. It doesn’t mean either of them has done something wrong. Daniel still feels off-balance, the scene cut off before it finished.

“What do you want?” Ryan asks. “I can run a bath, we can get back into bed, whatever you want.”

“What was the original plan?” Daniel asks. Maybe finishing the scene will be enough to reorient himself. Unless Ryan’s plan was to go out for a walk, to parade Daniel through the streets to—

“Hey,” Ryan says, voice sharp enough to pull Daniel out of his thoughts but not enough to startle him. “I wouldn’t spring that on you. I was going to bring you into the living room, have you blow me with the TV on, tell you to imagine the voices you heard were people in the room, watching you, admiring you. But it sounds like it’s something you don’t want.”

He doesn’t. He’s too raw right now. He doesn’t know what he does want, though.

“All right,” Ryan says. “We’ll get your clothes off, cuddle for a bit. Maybe I’ll get my mouth on you after all.”

Daniel doesn’t want to be coddled. He got pulled out of their scene, out of his headspace, but he doesn’t want to be treated like he’s going to fall apart any moment. He feels even more ridiculous getting this worked up over getting a blow job, but—

“You’re frowning again,” Ryan says, dragging his thumb across the crease between Daniel’s eyebrows as if he can rub it out.

“I’m not fragile,” Daniel says. He likes it when Ryan wears his control down until it’s thin enough he doesn’t know whether or not it’ll snap. But it’s a different kind of fragile than this. Daniel doesn’t like Ryan’s being hesitant with him.

“You want to earn it?” Ryan asks. “You think I’m giving something to you too easy?”

Daniel nods.

“In that case, I’m going to blow you, and you’re not going to be able to come until you’re so desperate you’re crying,” Ryan says. “That better?”

Daniel nods again, mouth dry.

“Words,” Ryan says. “Is that what you want?”

“Yes,” Daniel says. “Please.”

Ryan’s lips turn up into a smile, too sharp to be friendly. “I love it when you ask for things you know are going to hurt.” He gives Daniel’s shoulders a push, and Daniel tips backward onto the bed.

A VVivacious Review: Spa Weekend (Daniel and Ryan #6) by Tamryn Eradani

Standard

Rating: 3.5 Stars out of 5

Daniel and Ryan are going away for a Spa Weekend, their first planned trip away, together. And if this wasn’t already special, Ryan wants to try something new in the week leading up to the Spa Getaway.

This is book 6 in the Daniel and Ryan series. Having come so far into the series I finally have a handle on the pulse of things.

I remember in a lot of my initial reviews for this series, I talked about being disappointed with the pace of things. It often felt that we would go one step forward only to go two steps backwards. But after having read so far I have really come to enjoy the slow pace of this story and I have also come to realise that while the story develops slowly, we are slowly but surely moving forward. Despite the fact that I couldn’t realise it at first Daniel and Ryan are moving forward as I have come to realise after reading this story and the reason I didn’t realise has probably got more to do with the blinders Daniel has on when it comes to feeling than with story progression.

This series has adapted a meandering way of storytelling where you have no idea what’s next or where all this leads up to but you know it is somewhere good.

I liked this instalment to the series because we got to see a definite step forward in regards to Daniel and Ryan’s relationship but more importantly, I finally got to see Daniel’s legendary control slipping and it was enlightening.

I definitely want to read more even though initially I wondered, how different can a Spa Weekend be from a Weekend Getaway but the excerpt definitely has me on board.

Cover Art by Natasha Snow. I definitely love the new covers for the series. The covers for the first five books were just variations of each other but this one is definitely different than the first five though I think it is started up its own theme, with the covers to come. Anyhow, loved the cover it is amazing and I especially loved the green overtones.

A VVivacious Review: Performance Review (Daniel and Ryan #5) by Tamryn Eradani

Standard

Rating: 4 Stars out of 5

Daniel has two passes to a spa and he wants Ryan to accompany him. But he isn’t sure if their relationship is ready for them to take the next step, a weekend away.

This book is extremely short in every way. The story spans only two days but they are two pretty incredible days.

The story starts on a Saturday with a pretty intense scene, so anyone who was disappointed by the ending of the last book will be glad to know that the author is going to deliver on the promises of that ending even though it is not with that particular scene that was teased at the end of “Positive Reinforcement”. The story ends on the following Sunday which is basically spent in aftercare, so this book is in fact just one big scene, that’s it.

Though I liked the story, I get the feeling that this into the series I want some serious development to occur in Daniel and Ryan’s relationship and I can’t handle any more of these fillers. This one was good but I’m sure another like this will probably leave me a bit too frustrated. I feel like the story should be heading at a faster pace and sometimes it does move along gloriously well but then that pace is followed by a stand still.

I liked this one and the sneak peek into the next book promises exciting stuff but I don’t think I can handle another book like this.

Cover Art by Natasha Snow. The cover is the same as that of the previous book just with a change in background colour.
