Review: Elven Game (Roman and Jude:Monster Hunters#2) by Rhys Lawless

The strange, tormented romance of Jude Cohen and Roman Meyers, whose families are the Elven equivalent of the the Montagues and the Capulets , continues on in Elven Game.

Jude, a game coder, had figured out in the last story, that all the monsters everyone were encountering , except for Royal, were ones he had help create for a online game.

Together, Jude , Roman, and a encapsulated Royal in a charm, head to NYC to fight the monsters.

Thatā€™s where author Lawless basically explodes a already complicated plot into shards of high action, deeply painful scenes involving family, shocking revelations about trust and the truth behind everything they thought they knew.

Grab your popcorn, because you wonā€™t be able to put this down!

Jude and Roman are still so new in their relationship. Plus Jude is still figuring out who he is within his status as a Elf and a being who can handle the Aether. That enormous stuff.

Lawless does an excellent job with both characters, their personalities and mindsets in this incredibly stressful situation. One that with each new stage adds more pressure to them personally and to their new relationship. So well written that their emotions just pull at you!

While all that is occurring, Lawless is throwing new wild monsters to fight at our heroes, that also includes Royal in some heartbreaking scenes. As well as Addy, Judeā€™s grandmother and Romanā€™s former partner.

As noted in the description, this book ends on a cliffhanger. Sigh.

I really dislike cliffhangers. But I will say the reader will see this coming.

So after this fantastically woven tale of heartache, bruising revelations and fast paced ,white- knuckle action of fantasy warfare, Iā€™m more than ready to wait to see how Lawless handles the finale in Elven Heir. Itā€™s due out in August of 2022. Iā€™ll be here waiting.

In the meantime, if youā€™re a lover of fantasy romance and fiction, start reading this series from the beginning in order to understand all the intricate character relationships, plot storylines, and family histories.

Iā€™m highly recommending them both.

Review: Elven Duty (Roman and Jude: Monster Hunters #1) by Rhys Lawless

Iā€™m such a fan of urban fantasy and fell in love with the entire Magic Emporium multi-author series, which this story was a part of.

Now itā€™s been re-edited, and the author added a chapter at the end to swing the characters and storylines into the next book.

So of course I needed to check it out.

All the wonderful elements remain intact. Two sons, from families that both despise and need each other , almost a urban fantasy Romeo and Jules, or in this case Jude tale.

Except one didnā€™t know he was a son of one of the battling families until his grandmother came looking for him.

Thatā€™s Jude Cohen,awesome game coder, foster kid, and apparently a elf to his surprise (although it does explain the ears and purple eyes). Soon to be weaver of the Aether magic.

Another terrific character is Aggie, aka Agatha Cohen, his grandmother , partner to Roman. She jumpstarts our story by barging into Judeā€™s life at a turning point.

Whoā€™s Roman? Thatā€™s Roman Meyers, heir to the Meyers family, the one who can access the Aether. Heā€™s immediately, enormously attracted to Jude, even before they knew who or what they were to each other. And the rules .

Descendants of Cain and Abel, elves and monster Hunters. Oneā€™s a weaver of Aether magic and the other the door to the Aether, magical threads of all life. A forever pairing, that comes with a rule . One can never love the other.

Some rules are made to be broken.

Lawless gives us complicated, damaged lineages of two powerful magical families. And monsters bent on entering the present dimension to destroy it all. Only the sons, their families stand in the way.

The plot is exciting. The characters well crafted, and some like Royal downright adorable. Iā€™m definitely committed to finding out where Lawless is taking the storylines and their HFN romance next.

Thereā€™s plenty of unanswered questions here about the dead or missing members from both families, especially now that the readers learn some of the huge ā€œsecrets ā€œ towards the end of the story.

Iā€™m sure some of those will be forthcoming in Elven Game (Roman and Jude: Monster Hunters #2).

Thatā€™s where Iā€™m going next. Itā€™s to be released March 31, 2022.

Until then, Iā€™m recommending Elven Duty! Itā€™s entertaining and terrific fantasy.
