An Ali Review: Windward (Mirror #2) by Kirby Crow

Standard
Rating: 3 stars out of 5
Grant’s new-found happiness with his submissive Matty is shaken when he learns that Jaeger Koning, fugitive assassin and Matty’s ex-Dominant, has returned to America. Over Grant’s objections, Matty accepts the FBI’s request to assist in the capture, but Jaeger is always one step ahead of them, and Grant discovers too late that Jaeger’s true goal is to reclaim Matty.
This book was a fast paced follow up to the first book in this series.  In this one Jaeger is a back and he’s decided he wants Matty back.  Matty begins working with the FBI again to try to catch Jaeger and Grant isn’t happy and their relationship hits some difficult times.
Much of this story is more like a suspense/thriller type story.  The relationship dynamics and romance is present but they are only a part of the story.  I think contributed to my enjoying this book more than the first one.  I thought the suspense part was fast paced and entertaining and I truly enjoyed Jaeger as the villain.
The romance was a little more believable in this one but still there’s something about these two together that just doesn’t work for me.  I liked Matty better in this book than I did in book one but I’m still a much bigger fan of Grant’s.  We saw many of the side characters from book one in this (I still can’t stand Grant’s sister).
Overall I enjoyed this one more than the first book in the series.  This is definitely not a book that should be read as a standalone.  You need to read book one first to understand what is going on in this.  I think that if you enjoyed book one you will definitely like this follow up.
Cover:  I like the cover and think it is nicely done.  Neither model fits how I see them two MC’s though.  I would have pictured Grant older.
