A Lucy Review: Inn Love by Lucy Lennox

Rating: 3.5 stars out of 5

Attention Ghost Lovers! Prime opportunity to own this historic bed and breakfast in Pine Hollow, Maine, for a spooky low price. Must be comfortable with the mystical and at home with haunted spirits. (Don’t say we didn’t warn you.) Previous buyers haven’t lasted the night— will you be the one to tame the teeming shadows of this lovely Victorian mansion?

Will Ryan and Davis survive the ghosts of the Maberly sisters to win a shot at owning this historic inn? Or do they have a ghost of a chance at finding something else entirely? When things go bump in the night at this inn, it might just be the headboard…

In this novella we get to know Davis, a life long resident of Pine Hallow who has loved the Inn since he was a boy.  The Inn that now has a competition going on to get a sale.  It’s worth over two million and will go for $100,000 to whoever can last the longest in the house.  No one stays long because the Maberly sisters have haunted it for years.  But Davis has an in with the Inn, so to speak – he’s met the sisters.  They rescued him from a bike fall when he was a child and though he was never allowed to go near the Inn again, he’s never forgotten and now he’s ready to step up and make it his own.

The problem, of course, is that he isn’t the only one who wants this house.  There are various reasons the others want the place, some so incredibly stupid I wanted to smack someone, but they all have the same requirement.  Outlast the others.  One in particular, Ryan, has drawn Davis’ attention and will be the one to beat.

Things becomes difficult as the sisters start to work on people to get them out and as Ryan and Davis come together.  Things that go bump in the night aren’t always sexy.

What I loved about this story – the Maberly sisters and how they haunt.  I laughed and cringed both.  What I didn’t love – the insta-love and the thickheadedness of some of the other contestants.  But it was a cute Halloween-ish spooky story and my first by this author.  I’ll be sure to give her another try.

Cover art simple yet eye catching.

At over 50, I am ruled by my terriers, my gardens, and my projects. A knack for grubbing about in the woods, making mud pies, and tending to the injured worms, bugs, and occasional bird and turtle growing up eventually led me to working for the Parks. I was a park Naturalist for over 20 years, and observing Nature and her cycles still occupy my hours. From the arrival of Ruby-throated Hummingbirds in the Spring to the first call of the Snow Geese heading south in the Fall, I am entranced by the seasons. For more about me see my bio on my blog.
