Review:  Recalling My Demon: An MM paranormal romance by Colette Davison

Rating: 4🌈

Recalling My Demon: An MM paranormal romance by Colette Davison is part of a multi-author 12 book paranormal series called Possessive Love.

Colette Davison does several things here with this charming kinky novella that make it surprisingly different in many ways from the rest of the typical stories involved demon romances.

It’s a ex priest and demon romance with many twists.  There’s a daddy kink, an innocent character, and the church isn’t involved in the story.

Who’s the innocent? Well, it’s the demon.  That’s Brin, a bratty, loving demon who lives with his human mother, isolated behind wards for his safety and hers.  In Brin, Davison has created such a lovable engaging character. Naughty and innocent. A total scamp.

Ian, the ex-priest turned nurse is an interesting personality. He’s a caring individual, made his peace with his faith, and went into nursing to continue to help others.  But he’s got a kinky side.  Guess who gets to explain sex to a demon?

There’s more emotional side stories, including the one that involves Brian’s aging mother.

I didn’t find the end as well realized as the rest of the story but it’s definitely a HEA.

If you are a fan of the author and trope, don’t pass up Recalling My Demon: An MM paranormal romance by Colette Davison. A fun entertaining read.

I’m told Nethermire House is haunted, but the truth is even stranger.

Nethermire is home to an eccentric 80-year-old and the young man she claims is her great-nephew.

Except he’s not.

He’s a demon.

Brin’s chaotic, bratty ways draw me to him. When he calls me Daddy, I’m a goner. I want to protect him, take care of him, and call him mine.

But when he gets summoned to hell, our happiness is shattered.

Can I recall him to my side, or will I lose him forever?

Recalling My Demon is a standalone MM paranormal romance in the Possessive Love multi-author series. It has an age-gap relationship between a bratty demon who needs someone to love him more than he realises and an ex-priest who’s now a Daddy.

Can second chance love survive past trauma?

Ā Reece has one goal: to compete in the Olympic Games. With the gymnastics World Championships looming, his dream is one step closer to becoming a reality.

When his childhood sweetheart, Alex, walks back into his life unexpectedly, Reece’s world is turned upside down. Alex was the boy who inexplicably pushed him away and broke his heart; the boy he still loves.

When the truth behind their break-up is revealed, Reece wants to hold Alex up and give him the strength to heal.

But can Reece be Alex’s rock, and remain focused on his training, or will his Olympic dreams suffer in the process?

Hold Me Up is a MM second chance romance, with a slow-burn relationship and lots of hurt/comfort. It’s the first in a series of books that follows male artistic gymnasts as they chase gold.

Trigger warnings: Hold Me Up features a character who suffers from anxiety and panic attacks due to a past event that is briefly described.

ExcerptĀ

ā€œPizza and beer, as requested.ā€

Alex’s smiled deepened as he stood back, allowing Reece to enter.

ā€œAre we eating at the table, or are we going to be uncouth?ā€ Reece made eyes at the sofa and then frowned playfully. ā€œHow can you be uncouth when you can’t be couth?ā€

Alex chuckled. ā€œYou’re an idiot.ā€

ā€œIt’s true, though,ā€ Reece pointed out, kicking the door shut behind him. ā€œJust like you can be over- or underwhelmed, but you can’t actually be whelmed. The English language is weird.ā€ Raising the hand carrying the beer, he pointed to the table and then the sofa. ā€œTable or sofa?ā€

Alex considered the question. The sofa would be far more relaxed, but he wasn’t sure if that was a good thing or not. In just a few days, most of his barriers regarding Reece had crashed down. He was enjoying having Reece back in his life, but he felt like it was for all the wrong reasons.

Reece took the decision out of his hands. ā€œThe table is occupied by your laptop. Let’s take the sofa.ā€ He put the pizzas and beer on the coffee table before flopping down on one end of the sofa. He looked up at Alex expectantly. ā€œAre you joining me?ā€

Alex glanced at the table, wondering if he should offer to move the laptop. It would have taken him two seconds to close the lid and prop it against the wall and only slightly longer to take it back through to his bedroom, but he didn’t want to. Instead, he wandered to the kitchen units and grabbed the bottle opener from the drawer.

ā€œGood call,ā€ Reece said as he pulled two bottles out of the cardboard pack. He held them both while Alex flipped the lids off, and then gave one to Alex. ā€œI got us garlic bread,ā€ he declared. ā€œAnd I seem to remember that you’re not much of a fan of topping on pizza, so I’ve got a margherita for you and pepperoni for me.ā€ He took a swig of beer before opening up the pizza boxes and handing Alex his. Then he reclaimed the bottle. ā€œWe should have a toast.ā€

Alex raised his eyebrows as Reece lifted his bottle.

ā€œTo you. Reporter extraordinaire.ā€

Alex felt heat creep up into his face. ā€œI don’tā€”ā€

ā€œI do,ā€ Reece cut him off. ā€œLike I said earlier, your article was amazing.ā€ He glanced around the room. ā€œYou should cut it out and frame it.ā€

The heat swept up to Alex’s hairline and into his ears. ā€œMy boss already did.ā€

ā€œWhere is it? I don’t see it up anywhere.ā€

ā€œAt work.ā€

ā€œOn the wall?ā€

Alex shook his head.

ā€œYou need to bring it home. I’ll help you put it up, if you want?ā€

Alex dipped his chin. ā€œIā€”ā€

ā€œIt’s your first article. It’s a big deal, Alex and you should be bloody proud of yourself.ā€

An Alisa Review: What Works For Us by Colette Davison

Rating: Ā 4.5 stars out of 5

An elf costume, a pair of lacy knickers, and a Christmas charity auction might make Sam’s Christmas wish come true.

When sweet barista, Sam, agrees to be a ā€˜slave’ in a Christmas charity auction, he’s thrilled to be bought by the man he’s had a crush on for the last three months.

Theodore is everything Sam is looking for in a man: older, authoritative, and caring. Unfortunately, Sam isn’t the most forward person when it comes to telling men he likes them. Wearing a sexy costume allows him to be a much flirtier version of himself, but can a naughty elf tempt Theodore into bed?

As their relationship intensifies, Sam finds something in Theodore he didn’t realise he needed: a man he wants to call his Daddy.

But Theodore isn’t out of the closet, and whilst Sam is happy existing in a bubble in the run up to Christmas, he knows that can’t last forever.

Can Sam risk giving his heart to a Daddy who might not ever be able to hold his hand in public, let alone commit to him?

What Works For Us is a Christmas-ish romance with an age-gap relationship, lacy underwear, role-play, Daddy kink, a smidge of hurt/comfort, and a guaranteed happy ending

This was a great story, I loved seeing Sam and Theodore find what they wanted even if it was hard.Ā  All they needed was the right push to get things started but then another to make it right.

I liked that Sam and Theodore were willing to learn what the other liked and grow their experience and bond with each other.Ā  I hated that Sam’s family made him doubt their relationship even if the inevitable fallout was what made Theodore finally accept and work for what he wants.

I loved getting to know these guys and being able to see them find the happiness and acceptance that they want and need even if they have to work for it.Ā  I loved how adorable Sam was and how much Theodore cared for Sam and wanted his happiness more than anything and in the end they are able to work everything out for a great HEA.

The cover art is adorable and I like seeing Sam in his elf hat.

Excerpt

He stood and opened the door, and his heart leapt into his throat. His whole body tingled as he found himself unable to tear his gaze away from what the young man was wearing.
Sam didn’t have the boxer shorts on. Instead, he wore a woman’s elf costume, which comprised of a short dress with a green lace-up bodice and bright red skirt. Due to Sam’s height, the skirt barely covered the top third of his thighs. The skirt was filled out with netting, like a tutu, making it even shorter. Sam was wearing candy cane-striped stockings. Theodore knew they were stockings because he could see the top of the suspenders peeking out beneath the white fake fur trim on the hem of the skirt. In his head, Sam wore a floppy hat—like the Santa ones that had been flooding the shops for the last three months—but in green to match the bodice. Theodore managed to drag his gaze down to Sam’s feet long enough to note that he was wearing black pumps.
ā€œI didn’t think I’d be able to clean in high heels,ā€ Sam said in a confidential whisper. He sounded and looked more confident than he had minutes before.
Theodore’s mind had turned to goo. He’d seen men in drag before, but this was different. Sam’s festive costume was tapping into desires that Theodore hadn’t realised he had. He could feel his blood pumping through his veins, racing to get to his dick rather than his heart. He had a sudden desire to pull Sam into his arms and kiss him. Hard.
Dear God, don’t let me get an erection.
Just when he thought things couldn’t get any worse, Sam did a slow twirl. At the back, the skirt barely covered his bottom, giving Theodore the tiniest glimpse of white lace. A shiver ran through him, and he let out a little gasp of desire.
ā€œDo you like it?ā€ Sam asked.

Excerpt

As Theodore was paying, the barista approached him. The young man was now fully dressed in a casual T-shirt, faded black jeans, and dirty trainers. His straight dark brown hair had been made to look messy with gel. A few strands flopped forward, brushing against dark eyelashes which framed dark blue eyes. Was it wrong that Theodore knew that was how he normally styled it?

ā€œHi,ā€ the barista said.

ā€œHello.ā€ Theodore kept his eyes down, not wanting to be caught staring.

ā€œYou won me?ā€

ā€œUmm… yes.ā€ Theodore glanced up long enough to see a smile light up the young man’s face, revealing deep dimples.

ā€œI’m glad.ā€ An adorable pink blush crept over the barista’s cheeks and nose, illuminating his freckles.

Theodore’s jaw became slack as he realised the young man was blushing because ofĀ him.Ā With a sharp turn of his head, Theodore moved his attention back to the woman who was taking his payment as she handed him back his card and a receipt. He couldn’t deny that those two words had quelled the queasiness in his stomach, replacing it with a soft fluttering sensation. It was a ridiculous reaction.

ā€œDo you have a business card?ā€ the barista asked. His voice was just as soft and sweet as it was every morning.

ā€œYes.ā€ Theodore took one out of his breast pocket and handed it over, careful not to let their fingertips brush in the process.

The barista borrowed a pen and scribbled something down on the plain side of the card before handing it back to Theodore. ā€œLet me know when you want me to come and be your slave.ā€

Theodore risked another look, catching sight of an impish grin before the young man hurried away. He looked down at the card, where the barista had scrawled his phone number and his name: Sam.

A MelanieM Review: Unbreakable (a Heaven and Hell Club prequel) by Colette Davison

Rating: 5 stars out of 5

Mac’s life isn’t perfect, but he likes it the way it is: safe and predictable.

Mac works in a struggling pole dancing club at night, and a gym during the day. He’s tired and cash strapped, but content, until a confident twink walks into the club and turns his life upside down. It’s hard to resist when Russel asks him to be his fake boyfriend for one night, in return for double his normal take-home pay.

One date turns into more, as Mac helps Russell get an exclusive that will secure him the job he’s always wanted. But the rich playboy who holds Russel’s career in his hands isn’t going to give him the scoop so easily.

As Mac and Russel spend more time together, the lines between fake and real begin to get blurred, but can their relationship become strong enough to be unbreakable in the face of adversity?

Unbreakable is a fake boyfriend MM romance, with a buff pole dancer who swears like a trooper, a twink who likes to take charge, some spanking, light bondage, and a happy ever after. It’s a prequel story to Broken, but can be read as a standalone romance.

It had been a while since I had read a Colette Davison story and after reading this, I really have to wonder why it took me so long.Ā  This author (and this series) is definitely back on my radar and on my TBR pile after reading the endearing, very hot, and quite wonderful prequel Unbreakable (Heaven and Hell Club) by Colette Davison.

Unbreakable is the origin story that sets up the couples and foundation for the series Heaven and Hell, a strip club.Ā  Here we leap into the club at its very seedy beginnings and original name, with three of its exotic dancers.Ā  While how the club gets established is a secondary story thread (although still very important), the main plot here is the meeting, romance, and relationship between exotic dancer Mac and fashion layout designer/reporter Russell.Ā  The characterizations here is where the book just shines.

Characterizations and the D/s relationship that develops between Mac and Russell.Ā  Honestly, I will probably give the story a 5 star review based on Davison’s carefulĀ  (and accurate) slow advancement of the bdsm and Dom/submissive aspect of their relationship.Ā  The author demonstrates that you can both show how hot it is, while also threading in for those new to the elements of submission as was Mac, such necessary rules such as aftercare, safe words, respect, and prior discussions of what is expected and what is not allowed by each party.Ā  All the while keeping the scene romantic and very sexy, and yes, vulnerable.Ā  This continues throughout the story, something that just commands my respect and committed me to their relationship and romance.

Additionally, each man had their own demons to fight.Ā  Those were very believable given the backgrounds the author provided for us.Ā  I love the way each man started working, with help from the other, their way through those issues.Ā  The personal growth demonstrated here again just drew me in.Ā  So too the details of each man’s physicality. Mac is big, strong, fluid as a dancer, and yet imposing physically.Ā  Russell is considered a femme with his dress, slight build, and actions.Ā  However, their roles in the bedroom are the opposite of what most ppl have assumed about them.

There is another interesting plot thread here that helps cement their relationship and that carries us into the end of the story.

There is also the wonderful couple of Michael and Edward who will become the owners of Heaven and Hell and hopefully we will get their full story later on.

Unbreakable (a Heaven and Hell Club prequel) by Colette Davison is beautifully written, full of great characters, a hot and very well done D/s relationship, and a great way to launch a series I can’t wait to read.Ā  Do I recommend it?Ā  You betcha!Ā  Ā Grab it up today!

ExcerptĀ

The city centre was packed, and a steady stream of well-dressed shoppers moved in and out of the posh department store. Mac really didn’t belong there, let alone loitering outside it. He was about to give up and go home—he’d been waiting for almost half an hour—when Russel appeared out of the crowd and flounced up to him.

ā€œYou were early!ā€

Mac narrowed his eyes. ā€œYou’re late.ā€

Russel waved his hand. ā€œOnly by a few minutes.ā€ His eyes travelled up and down Mac’s body, full lips pursed thoughtfully. ā€œAre those the nicest clothes you’ve got?ā€

Mac looked down at his tatty jeans, threadbare coat, and death metal T-shirt. ā€œWhat’s wrong with what I’m wearing?ā€

Russel nodded towards the doors to the store. ā€œWe might have a problem getting in there. Not to worry.ā€ He looped his arm through Mac’s. ā€œThere are plenty of other shops in Leeds. This way.ā€

Mac opened his mouth to object but snapped it shut again.

ā€œI thought we’d do a bit of shopping and then grab a coffee somewhere,ā€ Russel said. ā€œWe need to get a few facts straight before this evening.ā€

ā€œWhat facts?ā€

ā€œHow long we’ve been together, what star sign we both are, favourite colours, hobbies… that sort of thing.ā€

ā€œIs that really necessary?ā€

ā€œYes!ā€

Mac shook his head. Russel probably wasn’t a psycho, but he was a demanding son of a bitch. There was no way he was going to remember those kinds of stupid details about a fucking stranger. He kept his thoughts to himself. Russel was paying him, and that was all that mattered.

ā€œI’ve been invited to a very exclusive party on Saturday, but it’s couples only. And, horror of horrors, I can’t find a date.ā€

Mac laughed loudly. ā€œSo you thought you’d ask me?ā€

Russel shrugged in an attempt to appear nonplussed. ā€œWhy not? You’re sexy and we’d make a hot couple.ā€ He flicked his gaze up and down Mac’s body. ā€œYou do have some nice clothes, don’t you?ā€ When Mac’s eyes widened, he shook his head. ā€œNever mind. I can take you shopping.ā€

Mac put his hands on his hips, shaking his head. ā€œYou can’t be serious?ā€

ā€œHandsome, I’m deadly serious.ā€

ā€œLet me get this straight: you want me—a total stranger—to be your date for some posh party?ā€

Russel nodded. ā€œThat about sums it up.ā€ He wagged his finger. ā€œExcept you need to pretend to be my boyfriend. Like I said, it’s couples only.ā€

Mac stared at him, jaw slack and eyes wide.

ā€œI’ll pay you.ā€

Mac jerked his chin up a little. ā€œHuh.ā€

ā€œWhatever you’d earn here on a Saturday night, I’ll double it.ā€

ā€œYou know I could just give you some bullshit figure, right?ā€

Russel nodded. ā€œI’m aware.ā€

Mac scratched his chin. ā€œYou’re nuts and your time’s pretty much up.ā€

Russel took thirty pounds out of his pocket, stood, and put it in the money jar on Mac’s behalf. ā€œNow I’ve got three more minutes.ā€ He sat down again. ā€œSo, are you going to pretend to be my boyfriend on Saturday night, or are you going to make me beg?ā€

ā€œYou really are serious, aren’t you?ā€

ā€œYes.ā€

Mac threw his hands up. ā€œWhat the hell. Why not? It could be a laugh.ā€

A Stella Review: Beyond the Surface by Colette Davison

RATING 4 out of 5 stars

Raen has always longed to see the world beyond the surface, but nothing could compel him to break the most ancient law of the merfolk. Could it?

Raen should have found his mate during his first hunt, instead he almost died. Two years later, he’s struggling with internal fear, and his father’s disapproval.

Until he encounters a land-dweller.A man he feels a deep and instant connection to.

A man who will drown if Raen doesn’t save him.But in order to do so, Raen must break two of the merfolk’s rules:
Don’t interact with land-dwellers.
Don’t go beyond the surface.

If Raen saves the man, he stands to lose everything he’s ever known. But if he lets him drown, he’ll lose something infinitely more precious to his heart and soul.

Beyond the Surface is a paranormal MM romance, with fated mates who almost never met, a sweet insta-love relationship, and an age-gap.

I picked this new release from Colette Davison cause I’m a huge fan of the Little Mermaid since I was a baby, I still preserve the videotape of the Disney edition. Plus I’m a little obsessed with mermen stories in the mm genre. Beyond the Surface was a lovely surprise, I enjoyed it a lot.

I particularly appreciated the main characters, both Raen and Steven seemed to me very real; sure Raen is not human, but in his merfolk world he has gone through some hard time, like some of us he feels different, his father is angry with Raen and his choices, until he sadly becomes abusive. Steven instead decides to take some time for himself on an uninhabited island, after having fight for his life and finally having defeated a leukemia, he’s with no house and no job, he needs to understand what to do next.

The two men are destined to be together and so from the moment they meet, the attraction is strong. The novel is sweet and sexy, there are some very hot scenes, others are a little more dark, still the story has a light tone.

Beyond the Surface was a success to me for different reasons, first of all I loved the author style, the book is so well written my reading flew easily, the plot is interesting especially cause it carries someĀ  of my favorite tropes: age gap, mermen, insta lust/love, damaged (just a little in this case) characters. I will surely look out for more releases from Colette Davison, meanwhile you can give this one a chance, you’ won’t be disappointed.

I’ll be honest, I don’t like the style of the cover art by Bramasta Aji.

ExcerptĀ

Steven’s head hurt, which stopped him from opening his eyes for several seconds after he came around. He could feel the damp firmness of sand beneath him. Water lapped at his feet, and his drenched clothes clung to him, making him feel heavy. He could taste salt water and bile in his mouth, and his throat and lungs burned. Why was he lying on the beach? He was sure he’d been on the boat, trying to catch a blasted fish that he could cook for dinner. The churning hunger he had felt was gone, replaced by something strange and unfamiliar yet warm and comforting.

He forced his eyes open and found a dark pair of eyes staring down at him from a delicate, pale face. The bewitching eyes widened.

ā€œWho…?ā€ Steven’s voice came out as a strained croak. ā€œAm I…?ā€ He’d meant to say dreaming, but he was finding it difficult to focus on speech, with such a stunning, ethereal creature beside him. It seemed to him that someone had captured the moon and personified it in a beautiful young man with wild raven hair.

He felt cool fingers brush against his shoulder, a touch that felt both alien and familiar. His body relaxed in response, and his eyes drifted shut, even though he wanted to keep them open. He had so many questions, but he was too tired to utter them. The soothing back and forth motion of the cool fingers lulled him to sleep, and he was completely powerless to resist.Ā

He wasn’t sure whether it was seconds, minutes, or hours before he rose to wakefulness once more.

He licked his salty lips and tried to speak. ā€œWho are…?ā€ He coughed and opened his eyes once more.

No one was there. He pushed himself up on shaking arms. A movement out at sea grabbed his attention. His breath caught in his throat as he saw the broad fins of a pale, dappled tail vanish beneath the surface. It was the first glimpse of dolphins he’d seen, and his head was too sore for him to really appreciate the spectacle. Besides, he had other things to worry about, such as where the young man he’d seen had gone.
