“Oof!” Thayne huffed out against the solid wood of the bedroom door. Jarrett had walked into the room, pulling his lover in after him, and before Thayne knew what was happening, he was spun around and pinned face-first against the door with a very hot and hard man against his back. He turned his head to the side and looked over his shoulder. Jarrett’s taller body blanketed his back and his muscled arms caged him on either side, hands planted flat against the door the way they were. Jarrett felt sexy as hell pressed against him and the slight scent of sweat from the armpit beside his head had him reeling in lust, just that fast.

“Gonna fuck you against this door or on that floor. Pick one,” Jarrett growled into his ear. The low rumbling sound of his voice and the hard ridge of his cock sliding against the crack of Thayne’s ass through the jeans he wore had his cock stiff in seconds. He groaned as Jarrett rocked against him. “Which one? Door or floor?”

Son of a bitch. “Both?” Thayne gasped.

Jarrett’s low chuckle and the squeeze of his hand on his cock as he reached around sent a wave of pure lust shuddering through him. He didn’t know what it was that had Jarrett so worked up. They’d driven home from the hospital and said goodnight to everyone else but the moment they were out of sight of everyone, Jarrett was dragging him down the hall to the bedroom as fast as he could walk. It was rare that he got in this mood and Thayne was purposeful in the way he pushed his ass back against the thick, stiff ridge of Jarrett’s cock. He wanted him out of his mind with lust and it seemed as if he was. A second later he had to gasp again when Jarrett bit his neck, all the while working the buttons of his jeans. He nibbled up Thayne’s neck to his ear and took the lobe in his mouth, biting it gently as he huffed hot air against his ear. Thayne shivered with desire and arousal.

“Fuck me, already. The lube is in my kit,” Thayne rasped out, finding the power of speech especially difficult at the moment.

“Don’t move,” Jarrett said, yanking Thayne’s jeans to his thighs before disappearing deeper into the room.

Jarrett Evans and Thayne Wolfe have been partnered in the ATF for nearly two years and their love and commitment to each other has grown over time. Now faced with one final challenge, the boys are headed to Arizona to help Thayne’s mom, stumbling headfirst into a brand new case. When a man is shot on Dot’s sister’s ranch, their informal investigation leads to the Native American reservation bordering the property.

Juggling tricky tribal politics isn’t something Jarrett and Thayne are accustomed to but, as with most things in their lives, nothing is ever uncomplicated. When a surprise sighting shakes Thayne to his very foundation, they call out for help and their colleagues ride to the rescue along with a little help from the FBI. The mystery on the reservation only deepens when they start putting two and two together. Questionable cigarettes at the Ahtunowhiho Trading Post may be the least of their worries.

From the mean streets of Los Angeles to the vast deserts of Arizona, Thayne and Jarrett once again brave the minefields of bad guys, bigshots, and a vicious betrayal that kicks them in the ass. But one thing is certain. Thru thunder and lightning, Jarrett and Thayne are never alone. They’ll fight for each other down to the last man standing, even if it costs them their very lives.

The Brat ( Marine Bodyguard #3) by Patricia Logan

Today I’m very lucky to be interviewing Patricia Logan author of The Brat, a standalone novel in the Marine Bodyguard series. Hi Patricia, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Tell us a little about yourself. If you could bring back one TV show, what would it be and why?

I love so many shows and cried that they ended them. Fringe on Netflix is one that I adored. I am a bit of a geek so it appealed to me. I also like to learn something from a show and so much of that show went right over my head, after watching all 5 seasons twice, I still find myself wondering about quantum physics and wishing I’d stuck with the higher sciences in college. I suppose I could always go back to school but I get a pretty good education from my reading and TV. I also love history, so sometimes these shows with “time-jumps” appeal to my senses so much. Fringe and Torchwood, aside from the amazing acting and super hot male heroes, are those type of shows. They keep me thinking (and lusting, haha) which is never a bad thing.

Thanks, Patricia, now more about The Brat.

Excerpt

Chas whirled on Tate, stalking up to him, probably having decided that he was the whole problem. Hell, Tate was totally fine with that. Better he hate him than his father. Hate was easy to handle but he was really surprised when he stopped right in front of him and shouted at him.

“You have no right to tell me how I should talk to my father, you… you cretin!” he screamed.

Tate was only slightly surprised as spittle flew out of Chas’s mouth when he spoke and he raised his hand. Is he gonna…?

Tate reached up and stopped Chas’s slap inches from his cheek as he viciously swung his hand toward him. Tate managed to grasp Chas’s wrist, stopping the blow and the action brought the young man flush up against his body. For a few seconds their faces were inches from each other and with all of Chas’s rage, the way his chest heaved with anger, Tate inexplicably felt his cock harden in his jeans. His fury is magnificent. Tate didn’t know whether he should stop the kid or just bend him over his father’s desk and fuck him right then and there and get it over with. He let the thought slide through his mind for a few seconds as he stared into Chas’s magnificent angry amber-colored eyes. It’s probably not the right time… more’s the pity.

Tate hesitated only a second and then tore his gaze away from the man’s, bringing Chas’s arm down and then around the man’s side so that he was forced to turn his back on Tate. Chas cried out as Tate deftly brought his hand up between his shoulder blades, causing him to bend forward to take the pressure off or have his arm snapped in the process. A second later, Chas’s knees gave out and he dropped to his knees on the thick carpet to relieve the pressure on his arm. Tate bent over him, still holding Chas’s fingers up behind his back with one hand. He laid his hand on the back of the young man’s neck, pushing his forehead firmly to the floor with the other hand.

“Ah! You’re hurting me!” Chas gasped out, drooling down toward the carpet beneath him. His body was shuddering but all the fight had gone out of him and he suddenly went boneless as his body relaxed.

Tate leaned down to speak softly at his ear. “No hitting. No slapping. No getting physical of any sort. That clear?” Go ahead. Fight me, you little fucker. I’ll have your jeans around your ankles and my dick up your ass so fast, you won’t know what hit you.

A second later Chas gave an almost imperceptible nod. His chest was heaving and Tate thought he heard a sob come out of the man as he grunted in pain again.

“Okay,” Chas finally ground out through gritted teeth, “Let me up.”

A MelanieM Review: Buttermilk Ranch (The Hard Riders #1) by Patricia Logan

Standard

Rating:   2.5 stars  out of 5

Buttermilk RanchWendell Blackowl has spent all his life in the working cow horse show ring where toiling with sweaty cowboys all day is the fodder for wet dreams. Though privately he’s come to terms with his sexuality, publicly Dell’s had to build a façade. When his beloved horse Buttermilk dies, Dell finds himself at loose ends so he decides to pick himself up by his boot straps and do what he’s always wanted to do… open an environmentally friendly organic vegetarian café.

Pace Avila, well known music critic, has been drawn to Austin by the live music scene. When friends invite him to check out a fresh new dinner experience, Pace reluctantly agrees to push the deadline on his national column. He isn’t interested in vegetarian food or a restaurant with the cheesy name of Buttermilk Ranch Café, but the moment Pace lays eyes on the stunning cowboy chef, things begin looking up.

When openly gay Pace walks into his cafe and his life, Dell realizes he’s tired of living a lie and tired of being alone. When Mother Nature throws an unprecedented storm at Austin, the muddy waters threaten to wipe out everything Dell’s worked so hard to build. He soon realizes that with a man like Pace by his side, love really can conquer all.

I love my gay cowboys and a gay cowboy turned chef?  Well, that had all the makings of a book to rope in my heart! See? Got cute, combined cooking and rodeo analogies…oh never mind.  Enough of the diversionary tactics.  From that gorgeous cover which is finely detailed right down to the wooden spoon in the back pocket to the blurb, I was gleefully anticipating a new story to trumpet.  I really need to stop getting ahead of myself.

The author’s narrative starts derailing from the beginning.  Patricia Logan has her characters use what I like to call “countryspeak”, call it an author’s country answer to Spanglish.  Its not really true to any regional location you can pin down, or to specific sayings or colloquialisms, its just that the author throws in a “ya” or “heya” here and there enough for their people to sound like the way the author thinks someone from that  part of the country sounds like.  Compounding the issues is the problem of continuity.  The “ya” is then quickly followed by a “you” or “your” not “ya’ll” or what have you.  Sometimes “countryspeak” rules, other times its completely forgotten, a disruption in character foundation and all around displacement the story’s setting that is echoed in other segments that work against the story as well.

The most basic of these elements is characterization.  Patricia Logan’s Wendell Blackowl has a very detailed background, from his family history, life on his parents ranch to his long time with the rodeo, all closeted and with good reasons set down for that status.  From the prologue on, Logan present’s Dell as a well defined man.  I liked his Buttermilk Ranch/Restaurant, even thought Logan made the argument for Dell’s vegetarianism logical and appealing.  However, none of that lasts very long.  With the entrance of Pace, comes instant love (yet no charisma) and Blackowl’s characterization is forgotten as a new one is created along with the needs of the storyline.  Dell is a virgin.  Dell and Pace and going to go slow.  And no they don’t.  Dell loves and respects his mother.  Then comes out to her at…no, its just too sad.  Would you really take the chance of doing that to your beloved mother just before she gives an important speech at a Pride event?  It makes no sense the way that it was written.  Or given the way the relationship dynamics were laid out in the story.

Yes, there are some nice moments. Also some weird ones with a bdsm club.  Perhaps, there is another series this book is temporarily connecting with, I’m just not sure because its not adequately explained. Maybe they will arrive in later books.  Either way, the country-speak, the characterizations and continuity…all big Cs that went wrong in this story had already brought the rating down past the 3 stars.

For some of you,  the sweet love story that exists, buried underneath the structural defects I see, will be enough for you to enjoy because its a quick story.  For you, have fun reading.  For all the others, there are other cowboys in love for you to discover, whose dialog and colloquialisms will drop you into their romance and location as though you are part of their lives and  scenery.  I wouldn’t settle for less than that.

Cover art by AJ Corza.  This is one of my favorite covers.  With the long hair in a braid that shouts Dell to the chef’s spoon in the back pocket.  Its marvelous right down to the colors.

“Yoo Hoo! Dell, ya up there, ya sidewinder! Get outa bed or I’m gonna drag that lazy ass out!”
“What?” Pace said, startled awake as he lifted his head from Dell’s chest where he’d fallen asleep in the wee hours of the morning. He wiped his face of drool and stared across the muscled chest he loved, finding Dell’s face. He had one eye peeled open and he didn’t look all too happy by what sounded like Branch’s bellowing from downstairs.
“Fuckin’ ass poor timin’,” Dell grumbled as they both sat upright in bed. Pace knew it would be pretty awful if Branch came bursting into the room with them, lying buck naked in bed. “Guess I’d better find out just what the hell he’s doin’ here.” Pace watched as Dell threw his legs over the side of the bed. He watched his ass from behind, noting the muscled expanse of his back and the thick thighs he loved so much, as the man stood.
“What the hell is he doing here? He and the boys had a show,” Pace grumbled.

“Ya rattlesnake! Ya need me to come up there and put my boot up yer ass?” Branch howled. Pace couldn’t help but chuckle. He loved his brother but he loved the disgusted look on Dell’s face more. Dell walked to the doorway and stuck his head out.

“I’ll be down in a minute, ya jackass… unless ya want to see me in all my nekkid glory!” Dell yelled back.

Pace heard a chuckle coming from downstairs. “Hell naw! Get some clothes on there, scarecrow! Yer movin’ slower than a snake’s belly in a wagon rut.”

“Oh for Christ’s sake, here we go,” Dell said, glancing over at him. Pace just buried his face in the pillow and laughed.

STRW Spotlight Book Excerpt

“How do you want me to take you, Cassidy?” Zack asked between bites.

Cassidy looked over at his Dom, just a little surprised. “You’re asking me?”

Zack smiled at him and he could see the lust glittering in the dark orbs. “Yes. Sometimes… but don’t make a big deal out of it, Cass. It won’t be happening every time.”

Cassidy had somehow expected that answer and the growl in Zack’s voice was such a turn-on, he felt his cock begin to swell as he stared at him. Jesus, I’m the luckiest bastard on the planet. Cassidy knew how damned lucky he was to have found a man whom he could call soul mate. So few people ever did but he knew he had… every single goddamned time he looked at him.

“If that’s the case, Zack. I want my Dom in our bed tonight. I want you hot, hard, demanding… I want you to hold me down. I… I… may fight you, Sir…”

“You want me to work out your aggression?” Zack’s face was very serious.

Cassidy could see the Dominant rise to the surface in two point two seconds. He knew Zack loved seeing him capitulate to his demands and even more importantly, he loved doing just that.

“Yeah. The way I feel right now, Zack…”

“You want to hurt someone, don’t you?” Zack asked, though it wasn’t really a question. He’d nailed it.

“Yeah.”

Zack pushed his empty plate back and stood up, holding out his hand. “Come, boy. Let your Dom take care of that.”

STRW Spotlight Book Excerpt

Excerpt:

Cassidy finally relented, looking side to side to assure that he was alone as he reached down, unzipping his slacks, and pulling out his hard cock. He looked down, noting that he was swollen and red, the circumcised head leaking precome down the length of his shaft as he began to stroke it.

“Does it turn you on, Detective? I’d love to do a scene with you, Detective.” Zachary Teak’s sexy voice played in his head as his hand sped faster, pumping him closer and closer to the orgasm which was just out of his reach. Cassidy opened his mouth, panting. He suddenly imagined himself laid over that vault-like device, tied down while Teak fucked him, harder and harder, holding him in the middle of his back with one hand and pulling on his cock with the other. He pictured Teak’s orgasm roaring over him, feeling the man’s dick throb in his well-abused ass, his own cock spilling on the floor beneath them at the same time.

With a gasp, Cassidy came, shooting so high, that he hit the steering wheel. Cassidy milked his orgasm, looking down at the mess he was making in the car, praying that he didn’t get any of his spunk on his suit pants.

Author Patricia Logan Bio:

Patricia Logan resides in Los Angeles, California along with her husband, four children, her grandchild and ever increasing number of cats. When not being stage mom, baking cookies, or scooping kitty litter, she writes steamy, award winning, gay erotic romance and tries to lead her readers on a journey of discovery with more than a little angst.

A Little Q and A with Patricia Logan…

1.  Your story contains many elements, humor , suspense, mystery…how do you balance it all?

By having a clear vision of who my characters are, first of all. Secondly, I like to have a great story planned when writing it. All of my books have strong male characters who know who they are or who find themselves and come into their own as the story progresses. The fun thing when writing their story, is finding a great setting and plot to go along with them on their journey. I always have bad guys and they are usually very evil. This makes for ease in storytelling because the plot nearly writes itself. Comedy comes naturally for me because I have a great sense of humor and I love to laugh.

2.  A note says that the story can be read as a stand alone yet it’s part of a series.  Are the books in this series very loosely connected or do you make sure that each story has enough background that reading them in order isn’t necessary?

All of my series have a central theme whether that be a place (Texas), a BDSM club, or a profession. In the case of the Marine Bodyguards series, the books all have a bodyguard who is a former Marine, but all the stories are completely stand alone. In all my books in every series, there are crossover characters who appear in book one as minor characters, and then they get their own story in book two and so on. Various series tie together by the inclusion of crossover characters from series to series as well.

3.  Which character in your book came first?

My bodyguard, Ranger came first. In his case, he first appears in “The Superstar” but I liked him so I decided early on, he needed his own story.

4.  Plot or character?  Which came first?

The plot came first with this story. I knew exactly what I wanted the book to be about and I plugged my wisecracking Ranger into it. The big burly Marine was a perfect match for my nerdy Landry.

5.  Why choose the professions you did for these characters?

Landry’s profession is clearly defined by the plot of the book and Ranger defines the series.

6.  If I said you had to choose an element to eliminate from your story, what would it be and why?

As fun as they are to read, sex scenes have become tedious for me to write and I have to work very hard to make them sexy, fun, and fresh. In this case, I have a virgin and an experienced man of the world so they were very cute as well as unbelievably sexy in bed together.

7.  What favorite childhood story had the greatest impact on you and why?

I was a voracious reader from the time I could read so it is very hard to choose. I’d say, I loved mysteries like the Nancy Drew books. I can still remember my mother and I shopping for the very first book when I was about 10 years old. It was #2 in the series, “The Hidden Staircase”, and I was hooked from that very first book. Stories like “Stewart Little” gave me my love for sweet and unusual characters and I loved the way E.B. White brought his world to life in my young imagination.

8.  What’s next for Patricia Logan?

I am in the process of turning all of my books into audio books and that is a time consuming project but hopefully it will be very rewarding as I gain new readers/listeners. I just finished writing a story with my friend, Rain Carrington, and that will be released in the fall. I am writing a BDSM for a new series, and of course, the Marine Bodyguards series will continue since there are a lot of stories and let’s face it, my mind is filled with an endless supply of hot Marines who need their stories told.

The Thief Synopsis:

Former Marine and bona fide hero, Ranger Corrigan, is one paycheck away from joining his brethren among the ranks of Los Angeles’s homeless Veterans. When he is offered a great paying job in a palatial mansion, Ranger jumps at the chance for a roof over his head and a hot meal in his belly.

Handsome and cultured Landry Metzel lives too well to be the insurance appraiser he claims to be, and Ranger can’t help but want to know why he’s been hired to protect an innocuous man with no enemies. Metzel certainly won’t be sorry to see him go.

As famous masterpieces suddenly begin disappearing from private collections, Ranger begins putting two and two together. When an LAPD detective starts asking questions about murders tied to the thefts, Ranger suddenly wants to learn more about the man he’s hopelessly attracted to.

A wisecracking former Marine, a man with a desperate secret to hide, and a murderous villain come together in a tale of murder, danger, intrigue, and the crime of the century.

The Thief Excerpt:

“I know it’s silly… please don’t laugh at me but, I just imagine you came in and swept me off my feet, picked me right up and set me on the back of your white horse and made me… well… you made me feel complete Ranger.” Landry chuckled.

“Ranger… you complete me… I love you.” Ranger lay there quietly listening, probably stunned by Landry’s revelation. “You don’t have to say anything back to me, baby, but I just wanted you to know… I love you.”

Landry quieted, listening to Ranger’s breathing as something suddenly dawned on him. He frowned.

“Ranger?” he whispered. “Baby?” Landry let go of the gorgeous hair he loved so dearly and reached around, pushing gently at Ranger’s shoulders. Ranger breathed deeply, his chest rising and falling. “Ranger…” Landry said a little louder. He frowned and pushed at Ranger as he felt his flaccid cock slide out of his ass. “Ranger!” Landry squirmed out from under him as he finally pushed hard on Ranger’s pecs.

Ranger groaned and rolled to his back and Landry rolled with him, propping himself up on one elbow as he looked down into Ranger’s relaxed face. His long black eyelashes lay against his cheeks. When his mouth fell open, he let out a loud snore.

“Khhaaaaa!”

“Are you fucking kidding me?” Landry asked. “Are you ASLEEP?”
