An Alisa Review: Hangin’ with My Window Man by Carolina Valdez

Rating:  3 stars out of 5

hangin-with-my-window-manRyan Halloran is attracted to Boon Andrews the moment he sees him on the window cleaners’ gondola outside his high rise office. But horror sweeps through Ryan when a gondola cable snaps, and his call to 911 saves the lives of Boon and his co-worker.

Although the near-fatal accident brings these two men together, never could two men be further apart in lifestyle and social status. Boon, a tattooed high school drop-out, wears earrings and dresses in frayed cutoffs and Doc Martens boots, and he cleans pools and windows for a living. Ryan, however, holds a master’s degree from the most famous film school in southern California and, as the elegant, cultured, and self-controlled vice president of a motion picture studio, he dresses in Versace suits and Bruno Magli shoes.

Despite their differences, Ryan not only responds to Boon’s carefree spirit and relaxed manner, he lusts for him. And Boon discovers his craving for nude sex play with this man turns out not to be based on gratitude that Ryan saved his life, but out of love.

As Ryan wrestles with work problems that could mean the loss of the film studio, he also falls deeply in love with the one-of-a-kind Boon. But when they start appearing in public together, and a former lover makes an appearance, the differences in their social status may well destroy their future.

This was a sweet short story.  Ryan was deeply hurt by the betrayal of his previous lover and nothing has really made him take notice of anyone until he sees Boon.  Boon is afraid that their connection can’t withstand their differences, but still wants to see if it can work out.

For all his high profile life he doesn’t have much confidence in himself.  We can see his insecurities and the problems he has dealing with conflicts at home and also at work.  Until they are dealt with he definitely needs someone by his side supporting him.  Boon has enough confidence for both of them and quickly knows he needs to look out for Ryan in some ways.  They both complement each other well and work together to grow their relationship.

The cover art is nice and gives a good visual of the characters.

A Free Dreamer Release Day Review:A Bond of Truth (Sensual Bonds #2) by K.C. Wells

Rating: 2.5 stars out of 5

a-bond-of-truthSequel to A Bond of Three

It is twenty years since the Bond of Three returned to Teruna. The kingdom of Kandor, once Teruna’s enemy, seeks help and sends its finest warrior, Dainon, on a diplomatic mission. A solitary man since his wife and child died, Dainon is unable to explain why an encounter with a young man on a beach rocks his world to its core.

Prince Arrio of Teruna has always been attracted to men but has never acted on it—until he meets Dainon. Headstrong Arrio goes after what he wants, despite his fathers’ advice. But when Prince Kei arrives unexpectedly, Arrio finds himself drawn to both men. Is history repeating itself?

Prince Kei has his first taste of freedom and is shocked when the visions that have plagued him since childhood become reality. The three men embark on a voyage of discovery. No one has foreseen the day, however, when the arrival of a stranger threatens to destroy their bond.

Part two of the “Sensual Bonds” series was very similar to the first book.

Again, there are three men falling in love with each other. Once again there’s drama because three men in one relationship can’t possibly be right. And once again, they are destined to be together.

Especially Arrio’s hesitation about falling in love with two men at the same time struck me as odd. His three fathers (Tanish, Sorran and Feyar from book one) have shown him all his life that it most definitely is possible to love two men at once. And Kei should know better than that too, since Sorran is his older brother and he also saw the bond of three working out very well.

Don’t worry, there is no incest here. While Kei is Sorran’s younger brother and Arrio refers to Sorran as his papa turo (turo meaning something like teacher), those two aren’t related. His fathers found him and his dying mother when he was only a few days old.

While the love is once again instant, the sex takes a lot longer to happen than it did in book one. I actually liked that better because it gave them time to really get to know each other.

Still, the whole thing just was too fluffy for me. I guess this series really isn’t for me.

The cover by Garrett Leigh and Dan Burgess looks a lot better than the cover of book one. The models are maybe a bit too old, but otherwise I like it.

Community of Storytellers by Robert Winter

I spent nearly twenty years as a lawyer in large international law firms, where all my writing was adversarial and designed to score points. I crafted arguments to persuade. I molded law and facts to tell the story I wanted a judge to know, and I asked her to give my client the ending it sought. My audience was usually limited to other attorneys in my law firm, a client, a judge or her law clerks, and opponents who wanted to find flaws in my analysis or spin a different story. It was lucrative, but it never satisfied my creative desires.

When I wrote September, I finally got to tell a story from beginning to end without worrying about whether it appeased a client or convinced a judge. I thought that would be the best thing about going from lawyer to author. I was wrong.

The biggest and most pleasant surprise about having my first novel published has been to discover that I am now part of a community of storytellers who support each other and want us all to succeed. I was lucky enough to attend GRL 2016 in Kansas City, my first M/M conference. The buzz on Facebook before I attended had me somewhat alarmed at the enthusiasm. As an introvert, I thought I would likely spend the days hiding in the back of the room for various panels, and maybe work up the courage to ask one or two favorite authors for an autograph. Instead, from the moment I arrived at the hotel, I felt I was part of a conversation. In a large room filled with writers I quickly found connections. BG Thomas signed books for me. Jordan Hawk talked to me about Whybourne and Griffin and what was coming next. Hank Edwards suggested which book of his would make a good starting point. I couldn’t believe how easy it was to talk to these published authors!

Then there were the readers. I met several people who were fanboying and fangirling as hard as I was. They were there to meet their favorite authors, to be introduced to new ones, to find out what books are coming out soon, to play bingo and even to watch ice hockey together. I realized quickly that even those readers who claimed they had no writing talent themselves actually did tell a story, each time they discussed their favorite books and what those books meant to them at different times of their lives.

It just kept getting better. I met freakin’ Alexa Land, whose Coming Home was one of the first M/M books I ever found, and whose entire Firsts and Forever series I’ve read through at least twice. I met CJane Elliott and got advice on how to promote my book. I went for coffee with BG Thomas and Pat Henshaw. I took pictures with Brandon Witt and Devon McCormack. It was like the best high school reunion, where everyone was excited to see old friends and to make new ones. I have been out as a gay man for more than 30 years, but I came away from GRL convinced I had found a new tribe.

As the release date for September approached, many of the authors and readers I met posted comments about my book, or gave me advice, or just traded funny stories. I got release day reviews, guest blog invitations, feedback on Goodreads. I experienced the joy of readers loving my characters, and finding emotional satisfaction in my story. (Does it make me a bad person that I love the reviews that mention I made them cry?) Remarkably to me, I recognized the names of some of the readers and reviewers from having met them at GRL, months before my book was out.

What I learned from this experience is that our M/M community is much bigger and more passionate than I ever imagined. The writers and readers and bloggers and reviewers and cover artists and narrators and publishers all do it because they love M/M. More, they want to spread that love because they want to keep reading and telling these kinds of stories.

I’m energized by the passion that this community creates, and I’m lucky to have found my way home.

Book Blurb

David James is smart, successful, handsome… and alone. After the death of his lover, Kyle, from cancer, he buried himself in his law practice and the gym. At forty-eight, he is haunted by his memories and walled off from the world. When David injures himself working out, he’s assigned to Brandon Smith for physical therapy. The vibrant young therapist is attracted to David and realizes he needs a hand to get back into dating. What begins as a practice coffee date escalates to friendship, passion, and maybe something more, as they navigate a new relationship in Washington, DC, and the gay mecca of Provincetown.

But David remains trapped behind the barrier of fear and guilt. Will he remain loyal to Kyle’s memory if he moves on? Can he and Brandon manage a twenty-two-year age gap? Brandon thinks he understands David’s concerns, and for him, the answer to those questions is yes. He wants to be with David, and he believes he can overcome David’s barriers. But Brandon fails to account for the world’s reaction to a handsome young man attached to an older, wealthy lover. David’s memories, Brandon’s pride, and an unexpected tragedy might cost them something very special.

Version 3

About the Author

Robert Winter is a recovering lawyer who likes writing about hot men in love much more than drafting a legal brief. He left behind the (allegedly) glamorous world of an international law firm to sit in his home office and dream up ways to torment his characters until they realize they are perfect for each other.

Robert divides his time between Washington, DC, and Provincetown, MA. He splits his attention between Andy, his partner of fifteen years, and Ling the Adventure Cat, who likes to fly in airplanes and explore the backyard jungle as long as the temperature and humidity are just right.

Born and raised in the north-west of England, K.C. WELLS always loved writing. Words were important. Full stop. However, when childhood gave way to adulthood, the writing ceased, as life got in the way. K.C. discovered erotic fiction in 2009, when the purchase of a ménage storyline led to the startling discovery that reading about men in love was damn hot. In 2012, arriving at a really low point in life led to the desperate need to do something creative. An even bigger discovery waited in the wings—writing about men in love was even hotter….

K.C. now writes full-time and is loving every minute of her new career. The laptop still has no idea of what hit it… it only knows that it wants a rest, please. And it now has to get used to the idea that where K.C goes, it goes.

And as for those men in love that she writes about? The list of stories just waiting to be written is getting longer… and longer….

Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words is happy to have Andrew Grey here today to share his thoughts on  writing and his latest novel, Nobel Intentions.  Welcome, Andrew.
~
I really love a good story.  When I first started writing, my goal was to be a storyteller.  Growing up my dad didn’t read us stories, he told us ones he made up and I think I got some of my skills from him.  I feel its important not to write a book, but to tell the story and I have the best job because I get to tell stories about people falling in love.  What job could be better than that?  Sometimes I write stories about farmers and other times about movie stars and old loves.  I love it all.  I recently finished a story called Setting the Hook about a charter boat captain on the Gulf of Mexico.  I got to go to many different places with my stories and with Noble Intentions I was able to travel to England and visit one of its great country estates.  In books we got to go places we might never get a chance to visit otherwise.  As an author I like to think we get to make an extended stay.  Happy holidays and I hope you enjoy your visit to the country estate where I got to stay for a while.

Blurb/Synopsis:

Robert Ashton is in for the surprise of a lifetime. His mother, a bit of a rebel, raised him away from the rest of the family, and it’s not until he’s contacted by his lawyer about an inheritance that he learns who he truly is: the new Earl of Hantford. His legacy includes ownership of the historic Ashton Park Estate—which needs repairs Robert cannot afford. He’ll simply do what the nobility has done for centuries when in need of money. He’ll marry it.

Tech wizard Daniel Fabian is wealthy and successful. In fact, he has almost everything—except a title to make him worthy in the eyes of the old-money snobs he went to prep school with. His high school reunion is looming, and he’s determined to attend it as a member of the aristocracy.

That’s where Robert comes in.

Daniel has the money, Robert has the name, and both of them know they can help each other out. But their marriage of convenience has the potential to become a real love match—unless a threat to Daniel’s business ruins everything.

Excerpt

“It’s your fifteenth class reunion and you’re a real success. Of course you’re going to go.”

Daniel shook his head. “I have no interest.”

She came in and sat in one of the chairs. Daniel had built all of his business teams on the philosophy of openness and communication. So while he had an office because he dealt with private matters, his door was almost always open and his walls were glass. He had nothing to hide from the people on his team, and he expected the same from them. That also meant people tended to offer advice and speak their mind—sometimes whether Daniel wanted it or not.

“I didn’t know you went to Lipton. That must have been exciting.” She looked at him strangely. “I always thought your background was more… humble than that.”

Daniel closed the lid on his laptop. “It is.” He didn’t want to get into that right now. There were some things he felt were private, and Joanne was skating very close to them at the moment. “I was on a scholarship.”

She watched him closely for a minute. “I see.”

Sometimes she scared the hell out of him with the way she could grasp the deeper meaning from just a few words. He should have said nothing at all.

“What does that look mean?”

“Nothing. Just that no matter what happened then, you’re extremely successful and you can hold your own with those people.”

Daniel leaned forward. “Those people…,” he began, and swore at himself for taking the bait, “they only cared about where their parents came from. They were all old money, as though that made them better than everyone else. It wasn’t about what you did or how well you did, but how far back you could trace the money in your family. There was a Vanderbilt relative in my class, for God’s sake. And the parents were just as shallow as their children. Yes, I got a good education that gave me a good start into college and beyond, but it was hell, and the last thing I want to do is—”

Joanne scoffed. “There is only one thing that gets you pissy like this, and that’s when you say you don’t want to do something but you really do. You’d love nothing more than to go to that reunion, sitting at the top of the heap in every way possible. You want to go to this shindig real bad and show them just the kind of success you’ve become.”

“Yeah.” He rolled his eyes. “These guys are not going to be impressed or care that I have a big Internet company. They have more money than you can imagine.”

“Like I was going to say. You’re a success, but you have to go with someone.”

“God, I haven’t had the time to date anyone in, what? Three years?”

“Three years, two months, and twelve days, but who’s counting? The thing is, you need to find someone so you can go to this reunion and hold your head high. Hell, you can take the place by storm.” Joanne came around his desk, opened the lid of his computer, and brought up a web page. “This is exactly what you need.”

“A matchmaker?” Daniel figured he’d finally sent Joanne around the bend. Maybe she needed a vacation.

“Why not? This is a discreet, expensive agency with high-class clientele. Lots of guys like you spend all their time working and building their dream, and they forget about a personal life and have no time to date. So the old-fashioned matchmaker has a modern application. I’ll call them and make an appointment for you. They’ll talk to you and get the ball rolling.” She worked through the website. “They don’t discriminate and work with men and women, gay or straight. They even have aristocrats.” She turned the computer so Daniel could see the screen. “Here’s Count Gregor of Villovia and his new wife, Diana. Think about it. A title would certainly burn their asses at the reunion.”

Daniel groaned. “I suppose you aren’t going to leave me alone until I agree to do this.” He could just see the puppy-dog looks he’d get until he complied—like the one she was giving him now. “Sometimes I really hate you.”

An Alisa Release Day Review: His Needs by Kris T. Bethke

Rating:  4 stars out of 5

his-needsWhen State Trooper Travis Kinslow is injured right before Thanksgiving, the only positive is that for once he won’t be working during the holidays. Since he has no family, Travis was absorbed into his best friend, Joe’s, and he considers them as good as his own. Everyone except Joe’s brother Noah. Travis has been in love with the younger man for much of his life, but he’s always kept his distance.

As an ER nurse, Noah is a caretaker by nature. When his brother’s best friend is hurt, he’s happy to help Travis while he heals. He’s only ever allowed himself to think of Travis as the next best thing to an older brother, but by the light of the Christmas tree, Noah finally sees Travis’s true feelings. And in that moment, everything changes.

When faced with opposition and a Christmas nothing like they imagined, will their hopes for the future be enough to carry them through?

I really enjoyed this story.  Travis has loved Noah for over twenty years without the younger man’s knowledge, but the time he’s spending with Noah during his recovery is constantly pushing his restraint.  When Noah catches a glimpse of Travis’ real feelings he is forced to come clean to the man, who surprisingly doesn’t have any objections.  These characters work well together and though their sexual relationship grows fast they have known each other so long it doesn’t feel so rushed.

I do have to say that although Travis is considered part of Noah’s family by them, he doesn’t seem to fully consider himself part of the family and doesn’t feel comfortable with some things.  This truly broke my heart reading how much Travis wasn’t comfortable with.  We only see Noah’s thoughts from Travis’ point of view, but that doesn’t make it hard to understand him as Noah is very open and honest about his emotions.  I did think it was a bit strange that all of Noah’s siblings and spouses knew how Travis felt for years, but only Noah and his parents did not.

A MelanieM Release Day Review:Holly & Hockey Boots by V.L. Locey

Rating: 4 stars out of 5

holly-hockey-bootsMinor league goalie Adam Seiger is a nice guy. He’s kind, cute, and a little quirky (but show me a goalie who isn’t) and he loves to interact with fans. During a meet and greet after a game Adam meets Cason Reyes, a hard-working young man with stunning amber eyes and a smile as sweet as a candy cane. Desperate to see Cason again, Adam does something more than a little naughty.

To add insult to the egg nog, it appears that one little white lie may end Adam’s chance of having a merry Christmas with a new boyfriend. Will he end up with nothing but a lump of coal in his stocking, instead of the man who owns his heart?

Adorable, totally adorable.  That describes both the story and the main character of Adam Seiger.  Gay, black, Canadian, minor league hockey player, adopted by his Aunt and Uncle when young, this man could have been a Mountie, he’s so sweet, nice, and yes, adorable…even in his faults.  That would be the lag time in between what comes out his mouth and the time it takes his brain to think it might be a bad idea to say that.    His brain goes awandering while the mouth just motors on.  Not always a great thing as Adam finds out when he spies the man of his dreams during a game.

I’ve enjoyed V.L. Locey’s stories before.  The author always manages to put in enough interesting quirks to their characters and storylines that it makes me take notice.  Extra spice, a V.L. Locey punch as it were.  Its the same here.  The other character?  Cason Reyes, is biracial with a fascinating background and a nephew to raise.  Both men have background that actually made me growl in frustation that I didn’t get enough time with each man’s family or get to delve deep enough into their stories.  They are that interesting and the people in their families we get to know are believable enough that we want more time with them too.

Other special touches?  The interaction with the team members.  Ray, Adam’s roomate with his own special kink?  Hilarious!  Plus I liked their acceptance of a gay teammate without any special acknowledgement or fanfare while mentioning that might not be realistic in the major leagues.  Nice reality check.  And then there was the holly branches.  I’ll leave the significance of that to the story.

I’d love to see Locey continue this into a series or at least give us a followup  story.  These two certainly deserve it.  We need to see what happens next.  I want more!  After reading this, you will too.

Cover art doesn’t really pull me to the book,  Doesn’t say holidays, and doesn’t really speak to the story.

A Jeri Release Day Review: Noble Intentions by Andrew Grey

Rating: 3.5 stars out of 5
noble-intentionsOne thing you can count on with an Andrew Grey book is a good romance. He didn’t disappoint.
Robert is a barrister in England working for the person who didn’t always have a voice. The old man getting evicted, the small shop owner being sued, etc. Raised by his mother, they are very close and see each other often. But then his world is turned upside down when he finds out an uncle he didn’t know about died and being the next male heir, he inherits not only the estate but the title of Earl of Hanford. And the enormous debt left behind.
On a trip to America for business, he signs up with a match maker and is quickly set up on a date with Daniel. A super rich business man who came from nothing and made himself into everything. But no matter how much money he has, he still feels like that kid who went to prep school on scholarship because his mother didn’t have the money. The rich kids at school didn’t let him forget it either.
Robert and Daniel expect very little of their last minute date, but find themselves drawn together. Their chemistry is undeniable. So once they really start talking, they find that they can help each other out. Daniel has the money to help Andrew and Andrew has the title that would make Daniel really feel as if he has made it in life, A business agreement if you will. Until real feelings get involved.
So as they work together to bring the estate back to life, they find themselves falling in love.
I found this to be a sweet, romantic story. I enjoyed hearing about the history involved and how Daniel so quickly thought of different things to bring money in to the estate so that Robert didn’t have to let it go and sell it. I expected Daniel to be the prickly one of the relationship, but really it was Robert. Daniel did everything he could for Robert, out of love and well being but Robert was just seeing it as Daniel trying to simply get a title.
Allowing themselves to love and be loved. Figuring out that they were far better together than separate. A lovely, sweet, romantic story.

Grace Kilian Delaney author of Seven Minutes  is here at Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words talking about Seven Minutes, her latest release, and answering questions  on writing. Welcome, Grace!

~Our Grace Kilian Delaney Interview~

  1. Where do you normally draw your inspiration for a book from?  A memory, a myth, a place or journey, or something far more personal? People, occupations, myths, experiences, and sometimes a turn of words can set off a story in my head. I used to love hair metal as a kid and thought the kids who liked heavy metal–not hair bands like I did–were cooler, even though I couldn’t get into Metallica (I still feel guilty over that). I gave Stone that. He was one of those growly metal singers everyone would’ve found cool, mean, and angry. Devon, who is definitely more light-hearted, is perfectly comfortable with dressing as a woman or a man and feels confident and sexy either way. With him, I dove into the side of myself that struggled with dressing and acting like a girl. I loved that Devon just accepted himself as is and wished I’d felt as liberated from gender conformity at his age.
  2. Are you a planner or a pantzer when writing a story? And why? I plan. My first novel is in the rewrite stage for the third time–maybe you can guess why I plan now? I find that having a basic outline and some scene ideas written down keeps me focused, even if I don’t end up in the direction I initially thought. I allow myself that flexibility. When I first began Seven Minutes I learned who Stone and Devon were, after some intense character exploration and helpful ideas from my friend, Paige Gabriel. From there I devised an outline for the story. After that point, beta readers and friends helped me keep the story focused and characters acting within their nature. Much thanks to them!
  3. Contemporary, supernatural, fantasy, or science fiction narratives or something else?  Does any genre draw you more than another when writing it or reading it and why does it do so? I think the heart of any story is in the characters; the setting can be any place so long as the characters are well written. That being said, I prefer contemporary and supernatural romances. Fellow Dreamspinner author Santino Hassell does an amazing job exploring various personalities humanity in his Five Boroughs Series, as does Nicola Haken in Broken. I haven’t read enough supernatural m/m romance, though The Necromancer’s Dance and its sequel by SJ Himes were quite good. Oisin, Devon’s best friend (pronounced “ocean”), is touched with the gift of premonition, something I learned when exploring his character after writing Seven Minutes. I recently finished his story, which should be released sometime next year.
  4. Were you an early reader or were you read to and what childhood books had an impact on you as a child that you remember to this day and why? I actually remember throwing a temper tantrum when I was in elementary school because I had to read a book and write a book report. My frustration with reading changed by sixth grade, where I surpassed the expected reading grade level. I remember a book I loved at that age was The Golem in the Gears, a pure fantasy/adventure novel, where dust bunnies were a real, living thing—that sold me! From there, I got into Anne Rice’s vampire series, Stephen King’s The Shining and Pet Sematary, and Dean Koontz. Yeah, I was into hair bands and loved to be scared.
  5. What question would you ask yourself here? Why do I write in first person? I feel I get to know the character and what’s going on inside of his head better, though it is difficult maintaining different attributes and expressions for each character. I’ve heard of method acting and I imagine its a bit like that. I get to be these people for a moment in time and it’s perfectly sane as a writer (is a sane writer an oxymoron?). I haven’t ruled out third person and may attempt something with voice in the future.
  6. If you were writing your life as a romance novel, what would the title be? Love at Second Sight. I’d known my husband for three years and never thought of him on a romantic level. After not seeing him for months, we just happened to bump into each other at a club. I swear when I looked at him that night I thought “I’m going to marry him.” We’ve been together since. (Plot bunny, anyone?)

About Seven Minutes

Can love be found in seven minutes?

Heavy metal singer Stone Manson never acknowledged his attraction to men. But when he meets sexy cross-dresser Devon at a party and ends up paired with him for a game of Seven Minutes in Heaven, he can’t deny his reaction. His confusion leads him to mess up—big time—with Devon, but after some soul-searching, he decides to do everything in his power to show Devon how he feels.

Devon doesn’t make a habit of dating closeted men, and he isn’t about to be anyone’s experiment. It’ll take a lot to convince him that Stone is serious about a relationship, but Stone is certainly giving it his best effort—and Devon is warming up to the idea of the hot, tattooed rock star in his bed, and maybe even in his life. And when a threat from Devon’s past reemerges, Stone might offer just the support Devon needs to get through it.

Stone

We walked into the dimly lit hallway. In the half-light, Devon’s features softened. He was… beautiful. Honestly and naturally beautiful. For the first time in fucking months, my dick decided to come to life. WTF. But he had these perfect lips that begged to be kissed, I swear. They looked so soft. And his fair skin would make any supermodel jealous. How’d he get so clean-shaven? Wax? Women waxed their mustaches…. Did he?

Internal bells and warnings went off, reminding me Devon was not a woman… well, he lacked feminine parts, but that probably didn’t make him less of a woman. I mean, women get hysterectomies and mastectomies and they are still women. So what if Devon didn’t have the parts? Everything else about him was pure feminine. Did I seriously just think that? I rambled. I never ramble.

I had seven minutes with the perfect excuse to explore these feelings. If Matty could grind away on emo boy without anyone thinking twice about it, then I could most definitely taste those lips.

“We don’t have to do anything.” He shifted, knotting his fingers together. “You seem pretty straight and—”

A loud yell came from the other room, reminding us to use tongue.

“And I’m not. So no pressure.”

Devon sucked in his bottom lip, dragging his top teeth against it. He looked scared shitless, like I might pummel him for being stuck here with me. His gaze darted around in the semidarkness. It hit some trigger inside of me, some protective urge. I’d seen that look as a kid: the fearful expression of waiting for a beating. Seeing it on his beautiful face twisted my gut.

No one better ever fucking hurt you, kid. I’d make sure of it.

He gave me the out I had hoped for. Sure, I could hang here for a few more minutes and remain completely safe, never knowing what his lips tasted like, or if his body felt as feminine as it looked, or what those long fingers felt like stroking my back—

Aw, fuck it.

My heart jumped into my throat as I leaned in and kissed him. Those intoxicating lips tasted of vanilla and a hint of the sugary margarita thing he drank. I kissed him some more, sucking on his bottom lip, running my tongue across it. He let out an approving groan, and damn if that didn’t make my dick swell. I sucked harder, and then I nipped. More sounds, moans, encouraging me to continue. Ignoring the part of my brain reminding me Devon was a dude with dude junk dangling between his legs, I parted his lips with my tongue, forcefully diving into his mouth as if he supplied my oxygen and I couldn’t get enough air.

My limbs electrified as he slammed me against the wall, pressing his hips and his groin against mine. Fucking turned me on to be thrown like that. I grabbed his waist, pulling him closer as I continued plundering his mouth. A low, hungry growl rumbled as he rutted against my jean-covered cock. Painfully hard, I welcomed the friction of those hips, wishing I could bury myself inside of him. Him. Fuck. I couldn’t feel his dick, and it disappointed me. I reached down to his front, risking being swatted away—I mean, how fucking rude is that to grab someone’s junk when KISS and TONGUE were the directions? Through our kisses, I felt him smiling.

“Let’s save that for later, sweetie.” He lapped my bottom lip before biting it just enough to shoot a jolt of pleasure straight to my groin. Holy. Fuck. I swear that move was so fucking hot, my lip blistered from the heat.

I dove in again, kissing him, running my hands along his lithe frame, feeling the curves of his body, his pert ass, forgetting all about the seven minutes until the annoying voices from the other room yelled.

“Time’s up!”

Devon broke off the kiss, eyes wild and dilated. A mischievous know-it-all grin shone on his face. I stole another kiss, feeling a sense of pride knowing his lips were swollen because of me. I kissed a boy and I liked it. And I didn’t know what in fuck to do with that information… aside from push it down.

In the Spotlight: Cowboys Don’t Come Out by Tara Lain (excerpt and giveaway)

Cowboys Don’t Come Out
by Tara Lain

Blurb:
Rand McIntyre settles for good enough. He loves his small California ranch, raising horses, and teaching riding to the kids he adores—but having kids of his own and someone to love means coming out, and that would jeopardize everything he’s built. Then, despite his terror of flying, he goes on a holiday to Hana, Hawaii with his parents and meets the dark and mysterious Kai Kealoha, a genuine Hawaiian cowboy. Rand takes to Kai’s kid brother and sister as much as he drools over Kai, but the guy sports more prickles than a horned toad, and more secrets than the exotic land he comes from.
Kai’s earned his privacy and lives to protect his “kids.” He ought to stay away from the big, handsome cowboy for everyone’s sake—but since the guy’s just a haole on a short vacation, how much damage can he do? When all of Kai’s worst fears and Rand’s darkest nightmares come true at once, there’s not much chance for two cowboys who can’t—or won’t—come out.

He stopped and tried to hear over the rushing of the surf out beyond the reef if anyone else hid in the dark. No sounds. Fortunately, no big water hit this beach, so he didn’t have to worry about getting swamped. Actually, between the lapping waves and the brilliant moonlight, the scene resembled some fairy-tale romance. Fuck that.

Right where the dry sand verged on the wet, he flopped on his butt. What she’d said—that he settled for a good-enough life. That he wasn’t happy. Don’t I get to decide that?

He leaned back on his elbows. Yeah, but she’s right. I created a whole life—as if I was somebody else. Most people find “the one” and build a future so it suits them both. I imagined a cowboy and slid into his boots—Rand McIntyre. Say that with a drawl, son. Just one problem. I’m gay—always have been—and cowboys don’t come out. Where does that leave me? A-fucking-lone, pardner. Always will be.

You’re not the only gay cowboy.

Have you seen Brokeback Mountain? Shit.

Phosphorescence sparkled on the tops of the waves farther out. Pretty. Guess there could be all kinds of weird man-eating shit in that water.

Do you think more sharks and barracudas swim at night than during the day?

Yeah, right.

He sprang up, stripped his Hawaiian shirt off and tossed it on the sand, then pulled off the shorts his mom had given him. Commando. What would it feel like to have fishes nibbling at his balls? Not like anybody else was doing any nibbling. He strode into the water. Whoa! Not cold, just startling.

When he waded out past his thighs, his penis and balls started to float. He chuckled. Kind of like being a kid in the bathtub. Endless hours of fun playing with your own built-in toys. A few more steps, and he submerged to his shoulders. He gave a tiny shiver. Weird being sunk in inky blackness. Still, the water felt good. He kicked off and swam a few yards out, turned, and stroked back towards shore. He wasn’t a good enough swimmer to push his luck alone at night.

After treading water a couple of minutes, he pulled himself back into the shallows and sat on the hard wet beach. He glanced down. Some shrinkage, but his balls still lay on the sand. Remember to rinse them off or you’ll itch. Slowly he released his breath. What was he going to do? Answer? Same as always. Nothing. He couldn’t risk all the great shit he’d made to try to make it better.
