Review: Bitten Shifter  (The Bitten Chronicles Book 1) by Brogan Thomas

Bitten Shifter, the first book in Brogan Thomas’ Bitten Chronicles, has a woman in her late thirties walking away from her marriage and life after finding her husband in bed with her older sister. 

It’s the early scenes, where a shattered Lark Emerson realizes just how much of her life has been not only lost but also false to begin with. It is raw, her emotional state real and reflects a woman in shock. 

I was all in. Because Thomas not only made me believe in Lark, but her betrayal felt authentic and genuine. 

It’s wasn’t until she had a plan that the fact this was a paranormal story starts to show up. And take another twist.

Lark throughout this tale is my favorite character. Her growth, her struggles with her new life and surroundings, every event that she encounters, she meets as an adult. 

The Alpha? Not so much. I actually liked his best friend, Riker, far better than the MMC, who I thought was controlling, didn’t consider Lark’s opinions despite her wishes and continued forward with his own personal goals. Because, fated mates, whether she felt it or not.

The storylines were interesting. The Human Rights group and the Mage group were both intriguing enough to have more exploration here. Same goes for a certain vampire aspect of the story. The setup was there, just needed some more layering.

If you can guess, wasn’t a fan of the ending. I’m not sure how the author could have done it differently.  But for me, Lark started out so much stronger than she finished. 

 Others might have a better opinion.

Review: My Kind of Town by Shelly Laurenston

My Kind of Town by Shelly Laurenston  is a paranormal shifter romance that was previously written for and published in another anthology. I didn’t read that one. And it was the cover and the author’s fantastic honey badger series that drew me here.

I liked this but found that it’s the promise of its elements for future books the most intriguing. The main couple is engaging if not fully explored. 

Thats primarily the issue with this story. Great ideas, an interesting storyline with fascinating magical characters and elements but none of those are really explained or given any meaningful foundation here. A coven with their powerful dark magic and found family ? Absolutely to know more. 

A dying coven with different powers and magical abilities? Ok, so what happened to them? 

The story offers up more questions than answers about the characters and never answers the original story plot about what brought Emma Luchessi, the Long Island witch down to the southern town of Smithville. 

That gets forgotten totally. 

So yes, I enjoyed it. Saw so much promise, and hope that the author ventures back to Smithville to finish what this story begins. 

Pretty much instant sex, instant lust, well, you get it.
