Devon & Levi VS Real Life Wyomans

Wyoman is just one nickname for people from Wyoming. A couple others are Wyomingite and Wyomingan. For the purpose of this blog post, we’re going to use Wyoman.

In my experience, there are two main types of Wyomans. First you have the ones who can’t imagine living anywhere else, and then you have the ones who can’t escape fast enough. Sure, there’s a middle ground, but the majority fall into these two categories. But here’s the thing, many of those who fall into that first category leave, many times by joining the military, and then return after experiencing life elsewhere.

I personally know at least a dozen close friends I went to school with who fit category one, and every one of them joined the military. Out of those dozen, all but maybe four have returned. Having lived elsewhere myself, I think the reason is simple: culture shock. It’s tough going from a small town, where it seems like everyone knows everyone else, there’s little to no traffic, and not very many people (the entire state only has about 500,000 people) to a big city like Seattle, New York, San Diego, Salt Lake City, etc. It’s like there’s two completely different worlds.

So, why am I bringing this up? Easy. Devon and Levi represent these exact groups. Devon was in group number one. No sooner had he graduated then he packed up and left. He wanted to go somewhere he was just another face in the crowd. He succeeded for a few years but then had to admit what many of us learn. He was a small town guy in the big city, and, above all, Wyoming is home. Once he’d come to that realization, he returned.

Levi on the other hand, was in category two. He loved living in Wyoming. Sure, there were problems, but rather than run away like Devon did, Levi stayed. He went to college in Laramie and went right back to his hometown. He weathered the difficulties he faced and didn’t pretend he was someone he’s not just to fit in with the crowd. That’s lucky for Devon, since it means Levi was still there when he came back and maybe they could have a second chance.

BLURB

Devon fled Wyoming as soon as he turned eighteen, leaving behind his high school love, Levi. After six years in the big city, Devon returns to his hometown. Not much has changed, except that Levi is no longer in the closet. He’s also single and living his dream—managing the local wild horse population. Both of them are very interested in picking up where they left off, but Devon is no more ready to reveal his orientation than he was as a teenager.

No one is going to shove Levi back in the closet—not even Devon. For a relationship to work, they’ll have to put the past behind them and find the courage to face the future as who they really are—a couple in love. But Devon doesn’t know if he’s strong enough. Maybe Levi would be better off without him—and his hang-ups.

States of Love: Stories of romance that span every corner of the United States.
Excerpt

Devon dug his keys out of his pocket and headed for the door. He’d get something to eat and then maybe stop at the store to pick up a few staples. Paper plates, sandwich fixings, some chips, and he’d be good for a couple of days. At least it would give him time to get a few things—like pots and pans—unpacked. Then he could do a full grocery shop.

An hour later he was comfortably full from a greasy burger, fries, and a shake. He’d never eaten a lot of fast food, but he had few other options. He headed to Walmart, determined to stick to his list of sandwich stuff and maybe some eggs. Surely he could dig out some pans before the food expired. He headed to the chips first and scanned for the familiar bag of Cheddar and Sour Cream Ruffles. They were his all-time favorite, though he also knew he’d want something else after a day or two. So he grabbed a couple of other bags and headed for the eggs and then the freezer aisle.

Sandwiches and chips would get old fast. He found some frozen breakfast sandwiches he could microwave, tossed them in the cart, and moved on. Frozen lasagna quickly joined the few other items in his cart, followed by some potpies, a few TV dinners, and a bag of chimichangas. So what if he wasn’t sticking to his mental list?

He was more focused on getting groceries for the next few days than on the people around him.

“Devon.”

He froze when a familiar voice spoke his name. He closed his eyes briefly, ducked his head, and steeled himself. He knew it would happen eventually, when he found out Levi still lived there. He thought he’d have more time to prepare. He swallowed—hard—and turned to face the man who had at one time meant everything to him. The man he’d risked being found out for. He lifted his head and gazed into the moss-colored eyes.

“Levi.” He hadn’t changed much. The goatee was new, but the shaggy black hair was the same. Devon kept his gaze squarely on Levi’s face, despite wanting to look him over completely. Not that he needed to. Levi had always been his exact opposite when it came to looks. Green eyes to his blue. Black hair to his blond. Slender and toned where he was more stocky and muscular. The only similarity was their height. Devon was no giant, but he was a little taller than average, and Levi was only slightly shorter than him.

“I wasn’t sure it was you at first.” Levi smiled, but Devon could still see the same hurt in his eyes as the day he left. “I thought you were never coming back here. At least that’s what you said when you left.”

There was no accusation in Levi’s voice, but Devon winced just the same.

“I never planned to.” He forced himself to shrug like it didn’t matter. “I tried to stay away, but the city is nothing like here. Too many people, too much traffic, and you have to drive quite a ways to be able to see the stars.” Devon shifted from foot to foot, and he opened and closed his hands at his side. “We don’t have to do this.” He motioned from Levi to himself and back. “In fact I’d understand if you hate me and want nothing to do with me.”

“I never hated you.” Levi sighed. “I understood why you left. Even if I wished you didn’t feel the need to.” Levi scanned him from head to toe. He smiled, but there was a sad quality to it. “You look good. When did you get back?”

“A few days ago.” Somebody reached around him, and he realized he was blocking the burrito section. He moved out of the way and motioned with his head for Levi to follow him. He wasn’t sure if he was happy or not when Levi complied. He headed to the fruit and vegetable department, knowing there was a spot near the bananas where they could talk without being in anyone’s way. He stopped by the display and turned back to Levi. “I wasn’t sure if you’d still be here.”

“You know me.” Levi glanced away for a second and then turned back. “This is home. Are you back for good?”

“Yeah. I learned I’m truly a country boy at heart.” He chuckled. “Guess I should have listened when you told me I’d hate the city.”

“You never were very good at listening.” Levi shook his head. “I should let you go before both of our groceries start thawing.”

Devon wanted to stop him but wasn’t sure it was a good idea. He’d never completely gotten over Levi. Devon studied his ex as he walked away. He was still slender, but he had more muscle tone than he had at eighteen. Levi stopped and looked back.

“Maybe we could get together sometime. Catch up over a few beers?” Levi’s voice was barely more than a whisper, like he wasn’t sure he was doing the right thing, but Devon heard him. “I’m sure we have a lot to talk about.”

Renee Stevens first started writing in her teens but didn’t get serious about being an author until her mid-twenties.  Since then she’s written a number of contemporary stories, as well as delved into the paranormal.  When not writing, or spending time in the outdoors, Renee can be usually be found working on GayAuthors.org in her capacity of admin and Anthology Coordinator.

Renee resides in Wyoming with her wonderfully supportive husband and a menagerie of four-legged critters.  Making the most of the nearly constant negative temperatures and mounds of snow, Renee spends much of the winter months in hibernation with her laptop, the voices in her head keeping her company while her husband works. When she needs a break from writing, Renee takes to the sewing machine to design, and make, beautiful quilts.

When the snow finally disappears, usually around May or June, Renee can be found in the great-outdoors.  She spends her time on the mountain, at the lake, and just anywhere that she can do some camping, take some photos, and ride the four-wheelers with her hubby.  Once back at home, it’s back to writing.

A MelanieM Release Day Review: The Senator’s Secret by K.C. Wells

Rating: 4.5 stars out of 5

The Senator's SecretPolitics, puppy dogs, and passion, oh my!

When his Republican opponent outs him with a photo in a Facebook post, Senator Samuel Dalton doesn’t have many options open to him. It doesn’t matter that the photo is totally innocent. He has no choice but to come clean… until his staff suggest putting a spin on it that leaves Sam reeling.

Sure, he’ll end up with a lot of sympathy, not to mention the possibility of more voters from the LGBT community, but it still seems a pretty drastic solution.

Now all they have to do is persuade Gary, the other man in the photo, to play along. It sounds so easy: convince the constituents of North Carolina that he and Sam are engaged.

No big deal, except for the fact that they’ve only just met….

The Senator’s Secret by K.C. Wells is that adorable, feel good romance that you love to pick up and then hate to put down.  Its easy on the heart, quick to read but so loving and heartwarming that you won’t forget about the characters and their romance once you put the Kindle  down.  Its why we love to read romance novels.  The falling in love, the laughs and shared time togethers that pulls us, the readers in with them, and then the happy endings, that make us giggle and sigh.  Yep…the total romance sans angst.

Is it realistic?  No, not really and to tell you the truth, I didn’t and don’t really care.  Amidst the mud slinging currently going on and living near the Nation’s Capital I get more than my share of authentic politics.  So if K.C. Wells wants to bend reality and give me a glimpse into what a kinder, gentler  side path might look like?  I say fine, go for it.  I’ve about had it with reality.

Senator Sam?  He’s so good, that I’d vote for him, knowing he’d  never last in Washington, DC.  But as a romantic main man?  He’s lovely and charming,  And I laughed at his lines as written by Wells.  He charmed me totally.  Gary, the volunteer working for him never had a chance.  I wish we had more of a background on Gary but the history we got from Wells was heartbreaking and enough to connect us with this veterinarian in the making.  Is it plausible in this day  and age that such a deception would take place?  Probably not.  But this is Dreamspun Desires, recreating a line of romance novels where this sort of thing was commonplace (I know, I  know).  Suspend your disbelief and go with the flow.

I loved both characters.  The dialog between the two is snappy, at times  poignant and almost guaranteed to make the connection between couple and reader.  Its funny, each character has a distinct feel and flow, something I don’t always find.

And yes, there is a dog.  Bonus points, K.C.

Want an adorable romance, lighthearted and sweet?  One easy on the heart, that will leave you laughing and full of sighs?   Pick up K.C. Wells’ The Senator’s Secret!  I highly recommend it.

Cover art by Paul Richmond is adorable. Its even got Dinky in it.

An Alisa Release Day Review: Bear Among the Books by TJ Masters

Rating:  4 stars out of 5

Bear Among the Books by TJ MastersForty-eight-year-old Ben Thompson is a librarian, a passionate book lover, and a man who embodies the definition of a bear. He’s also lonely after the loss of his long-term partner. Young ex-gymnast Jason Barnes piques his interest, but Ben quickly realizes there’s more to Jason than his good looks. While Jason visits the library almost every day, he never checks out a book.

With gentle persistence, Ben befriends Jason and learns the nineteen-year-old’s tragic secrets. After years of abuse at his father’s hands, Jason was kicked out of his family home for being gay. And despite his apparent love of books, Jason never learned to read. Ben offers to teach him, and the two men bond over their lessons. Ben can’t deny his attraction to Jason, but he wonders if Jason is too young and too handsome to return his interest. With the help of the close-knit library team and Jason’s growing self-confidence, they move beyond the books and into the bedroom, where their own story is just beginning.

This was a very enjoyable story.  Ben has been alone since his partner passed away putting all he has into the library he manages, making his own family out of the other employees.  He is drawn to Jason when he first sees him and befriends the young man hoping to draw him out of his shell.

Ben is almost thirty years older than Jason and despite his feelings tries to keep their relationship as friends only until his friends and Jason’s grandmother convince him that all that matters is how they feel about each other.  Jason has been through so much he deserves to have happiness in his life.  Both characters have to open up to the possibility of more than what they currently have in their lives.

This story is told from Ben’s point of view, so we can easily see his emotions and thoughts.  It takes a bit to understand some of Jason’s feelings, but he is very open with how he feels.  I was so happy for Jason being able to gain friends through the library employees and the love he deserves from Ben.  Even though Jason is much younger than Ben he is more mature than his age in many ways, but you can still see his youth come through during the story.  I was very happy with how this story ended and am glad they got their happy ending.

Cover art by Alexandria Corza is perfect and I wouldn’t change a thing.

A Jeri Release Day Review: Lord of a Thousand Steps (Love in Laguna #4) by Tara Lain

Rating: 4 stars out of 5

Lord of a Thousand Steps by Tara LainTo architecture student Ian Carney, family means everything. Taken in by his brother, Jim, when his father threw him out at eighteen for being gay, Ian yearns to create his own family with his boyfriend, Rico. But Rico’s in Mexico caring for a sick father, Ian hasn’t had sex in a month and a half, and his gorgeous boss, Braden Lord, CEO of the architectural firm Ian interns for, is looking better and better.

Braden’s life is chaos. Just out of the closet and going through an ugly divorce from his wife of fifteen years who’s trying to take custody of his two children, he desperately resolves not to succumb to a completely inappropriate attraction to Ian—even though his kids adore both the man and his crazy cat.

When Rico proves to be a snake in the grass and Ian exercises his powers of seduction, what starts as a “friends with benefits” fling turns into real life real fast. Can Ian give up his romantic dreams for an “old guy” who didn’t come out until he carried a mountain of baggage? It’ll only take a thousand steps.

I’ve been a big fan of this series since the beginning.  One of the great things is that they are all good stories, not recycled tropes that you’ve seen again and again.

In this installment we get to know Ian, a young architect student who is young, in love, and interning at his dream firm. Until his boyfriend goes to Mexico and doesn’t come back.

Braden is a partner in the firm. Going through an ugly divorce, fighting for custody of his kids, and recently coming out of the closet makes his life crazy. He does not need to be attracted to Ian, the young intern.

So the boss/intern thing has been done to death, but I really like how this was done. Involving the kids and a cat who likes walks and the beach was a fresh perspective.  Being friends while fighting their attraction. And finding out that collaborating on projects brings magic.

Ian craves the life Braden can bring him, but Braden fears losing what is important in his life if he succumbs to Ian.

The tentative love affair they begin is both sweet and hot. The chemistry between the two was obvious and not forced at all.

Definitely add this to your list. You don’t have to read the others, but you’ll be glad you did.

Cover art by Reese Dante is gorgeous and in step with the novel.

A Lila Release Day Review: Wrenches, Regrets, & Reality Checks (Wrench Wars #3) by L.A. Witt

Rating: 4 stars out of 5

Wrenches, Regrets and Reality ChecksWhen Reggie’s garage became part of a popular reality show, business went through the roof. And he supposes having his shop in the black is a fair trade for jumping through the network’s hoops.

As the show’s lowest-ranking producer, Wes is tasked with proposing a new spin-off show to Reggie. The sexy mechanic makes him sweat on a normal day, but this time, Wes is holding cards he can’t show. With execs breathing down his neck, he’s expected to pitch a show Reggie will never agree to do, even if his rejection puts his existing show on the line.

The network is counting on Reggie refusing to sign. But they’re not counting on their messenger falling for the man they’re trying to fire.

Wrenches, Regrets, And Reality Checks is so far, the best in the series. Perhaps because by now, we are used to the way the stories work, or due to its quick pacing. The author concentrated on the important subjects and used the characters to let the reader know what to expect from the main characters’ relationship.

As soon as the story starts, we are in familiar territory; inside the no-camera zone in Reggie’s garage. We get introduced to Wes and through him, to Reggie. The action starts unraveling from their first conversation and continues, without pause, for the next two days.

Just like with the previous books, this story is about the MCs’s relationship and its impact on the show, not the reality show itself. We get a recap of what had occurred in the previous book by this author, but it isn’t necessary to read the Last Mechanic Standing to enjoy this installment.

This is a true short story, a couple of scenes that could be part of a novel. Reggie and Wes have a strong chemistry in bed, a healthy amount of lust, and the possibilities to work on something more. It has a happy-for-now ending, open enough for the readers to imagine a future between the MCs or to be happy they gave it a try if they break up later on. Their interactions are based on lust and attraction, no romance and feels.

If you’re looking for a quick, hot, and engaging story, this is it. But the characters are generic enough that can be placed in any other book and still get the same outcome. Therefore, if you’re trying to connect with the characters and cheer for their relationship to be sublime, then think about it twice. And if you’re an L.A. Witt fan, you’ll get exactly what you’re looking for, a well-written erotic tale.

Garrett Leigh created another well-matched cover for this series, but still generic.

A Barb the Zany Old Lady Review: Wide Open Spaces (States of Love) by Renee Stevens

Rating: 2.5 stars out of 5

Wide Open Spaces by Renee StevensDevon fled Wyoming as soon as he turned eighteen, leaving behind his high school love, Levi.

This was a sweet story, but almost too sweet.  Devon returns to his small hometown in Wyoming because life in the big city no longer appeals to him. He left home after high school six years before, and he left behind his first love, Levi.  Once he’s back, he quickly learns Levi completed college and now works rescuing wild mustangs, and he came out a few years before when he brought home his boyfriend on a college break.

Devon would love to see Levi, but he’s afraid his high school jock friends and his new employer, a mining operation, would make his life hell if they determined he was gay too. He is, and he was out for the past six years in Washington, but doesn’t want to be out here.  When he meets up with Levi, it’s evident that their chemistry is still there, so he plans to take it slowly as he gets to know the man he always loved.

They do take things slowly, but Devon is such a jerk about staying in the closet that eventually Levi clues in to the fact that they never go out in public, and he gives Devon an ultimatum (thank God!).  Devon is still a wuss, even when he finally determines that there’s nothing he’d do to hurt Levi and wins him back.  To be honest, I couldn’t believe how juvenile his behavior was, especially given the fact that he’s been out for six years.  And Levi was way too nice to the jerk. Really? He should have put his foot down from the beginning.  Also, there was no real angst surrounding the fact that Devon ran off six years before. They smoothly transitioned back together, even though there had been no contact during that time.

Overall, although I somewhat liked the story, mostly my “like” was centered around Levi and around the early parts of the story before I realized what a jerk Devon was.  Also, it felt a little too juvenile, and the resolution didn’t come until the end. And then it just ended—there should have been a bit more of a resolution toward their future as a couple.  So, I have to give it 2.5 stars because I thought it was a minimum of “okay” with a little bit of “like” as a booster.

The cover by Maria Fanning is okay, featuring a close-up of a muscular man’s chest with another (less than sexy and unappealing man) in the background and both superimposed over a scene of grazing horses.

An Alisa Audiobook Review: Tasting Notes by Cate Ashwood and Narrator Michael Pauley

Rating:  3 stars out of 5

Tasting Notes AudiobookThere’s nothing that can’t be solved over a glass of excellent wine.

Joseph “West” Weston has paid for his wealth and success with long hours at the office and no personal life to speak of. Meetings, conference calls, and paperwork dominate his waking hours and have kept him from honoring the promise he made to his late grandfather years before.

After leaving the Marines, Robert “Rush” Coeman returns to his hometown and settles in as a Christmas tree farmer. His life is quiet and simple, and he likes it that way. When West arrives in town and buys Rush’s parents’ vineyard on a whim, that simple life is turned upside down. The animosity between them is palpable, but Rush shelves his preconceived notions in order to protect his parents’ legacy. He agrees to help West learn how to run the vineyard, and Rush soon realizes that love doesn’t necessarily come in the package he expected.

West decides to take time off to fulfill his promise to his grandfather, the first impulsive thing he has done in years.  While on his road trip he quickly makes another impulsive decision to buy a winery even though he knows nothing about running one.  Rush feels obligated to show West the ropes in order to protect the winery’s reputation, but soon learns that West isn’t quite what he originally thought.

This story is told from both character’s points of view.  West feels so lost and hasn’t had anyone to rely on but himself for years.  When he is forced to get help from the gruff Rush he has a bit of a reality check, but knows this isn’t his usual environment.  Rush has to learn to get over some of his pre-conceived notions before they can make their future work together.

Michael Pauley did a nice job narrating this story.  The use of different voices for the characters helped me keep track of the story.  However, his reading was a bit mechanical and I got most of the characters emotions from the word more than his speaking.

Cover art by Anna Sikorska is beautiful and works well for this story.

An Alisa Release Day Review: A Fallen Heart (Zero Hour #2) by Cate Ashwood

Rating:  4 stars out of 5

A Fallen Heart by Cate AshwoodAfter his last disastrous relationship, Joseph Ford has absolutely no interest in getting attached again. Concentrating on working as a trauma nurse and keeping his life as simple as possible are his only goals. Unfortunately, his plans could be derailed by the charming, sexy Nash.

Things are looking up for paramedic Ridley Nash when he transfers to Station 217. He gets along with the crew, likes his partner, and is finally on a team willing to accept him—gay and all. It’s everything he’s always wanted, but when he meets Ford, Nash knows his life is about to get very interesting.

As Ford and Nash find themselves stuck in the middle of a homicide case, things become more complicated. For the last year, the mutilated bodies of teenage boys have been showing up all over downtown. With no leads, the police are getting desperate. One of the victims is found alive, and he’s the best chance the police have to catch the killer—if only they can get him to talk.

Will Nash be able to catch Ford when he falls, or is there too much standing in their way to make it work?

This was a nice continuation of the Zero Hour series.  I enjoyed the first book and liked this one just as much.  Ford has closed his heart off after his last relationship ended badly, but Nash starts to tear down those boundaries from the first time they meet.

Nash has recently transferred stations and is now Adam’s partner and is happy to be somewhere he isn’t persecuted for who he is.  Ford has never hidden who he is, no matter what his ex wanted, but is afraid to let someone else in.  Their mutual friendships with Adam and Sam from the first book help bring them together even when Ford is trying to stay apart.

This story is told from both characters’ point of view which makes it easier to connect with the characters.  Seeing how scared Ford is to lose himself in another relationship just broke my heart, but Nash is determined to show him that what they have is good and not like what Ford had before.  I can’t wait for the next book in the series to see more of these characters.

Cover art by Bree Archer is nice and follows the pattern for the series.

Falling Into Autumn and This Week At Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words

autumn header

Falling Into Autumn

“The foliage has been losing its freshness through the month of August, and here and there a yellow leaf
shows itself like the first gray hair amidst the locks of a beauty who has seen one season too many.”
–   Oliver Wendell Holmes

Ah, September.  That month of in-betweenness.  Neither summer nor fall.  Still hot but sometimes cold.  Its the month that never quite figures out where it wants to be.  It fluctuates between seasons, like someone dithering on making a decision between clothes they are trying to decide on for an evening out. The sweet yet raucous sounds of late summer are still in full swing…cicadas are still a loud chorus at my house.  Yet also can be heard the sounds of snow geese and Canada geese, flocks in flight, sounding off, in preparation for migration.  So too have I seen my first sight and sounds of kettle of hawks, soaring high above…all signs of autumn approaching.

Literature is full of love notes to autumn.  And not just literature, poetry, songs…from Neil Diamond’s September Morn to Henry David Thoreau’s “Happy we who can bask in this warm September sun…”, odes to this wildly uneven and serendipitous month are everywhere.  Its jumbled ways making people perhaps feel a little crazy and alive, as if they don’t know what to expect from each day to the next.

So I’ll leave you with some crazy facts about September:

  • Shakespeare did not mention September in any of his plays.
  • Groucho Marx said “My favorite poem is the one that starts ‘Thirty days hath September’ because it actually tells you something”.
  • Band-Aids were invented in the month of September.
  • The last day of September in any year always falls on a different day of the week from the last day of any other month.
  • The poem “Mary had a Little Lamb” was published September 1st, 1830.
  • September 5th, is National Cheese Pizza Day.
  • September 9th is National Teddy Bear Day.
  • September 16th is National Play-Doh Day.
  • September 19th is “Talk Like A Pirate Day” around the world… an International event.

So argh me hearties!  That’s more than enough for any crazy month, including September, which has Labor Day, one of our best known holidays here in the States.

We also have a new reviewer starting up with us this month.  Welcome, Caryn.  Her first review will be posted this week!  All in all, a very busy week.

A Stella Release Day Review: Back Off! That’s My Jock (Jock #3) by Wade Kelly

RATING 3,75 out of 5 stars

Back off That's My JockDefining his sexuality didn’t make sense until his best friend spelled it out.

Doug Archer did some pretty idiotic things in the first eight weeks of his junior year of college. First, he kissed his gay best friend, and second, he kissed a guy he’d mistaken for a girl. Not stellar moments for Doug. If he isn’t careful, he’ll lose his spot on the soccer team to the new freshman, or worse, he might misconstrue his new friend Rob’s overly affectionate tendencies for flirting. But if Doug isn’t bothered by another guy’s attention, and he normally dates girls, does that mean he’s gay or bisexual?

Sam Garber suppressed his same-sex attraction his entire life. His father told him it was immoral, and Sam did everything he could to bury his feelings. However, after meeting Doug at a party and kissing him, Sam can’t think of anything else. He decides dating girls is the best way to keep his secret hidden. With playoffs in sight, this is no time to think about guys in any other context than soccer. Only neither boy anticipates the difficulty in suppressing his attraction for another jock!

Back Off! That’s My Jock by Wade Kelly is the third book in the Jock series and starts where book two ended. Guess what? I totally missed book two was released and I admit I was a little dubious when I began to read this new release, I prefer to read series in order, otherwise I could easily find myself confused by the story and end up not liking the book. This was not the case! Of course I would have love to meet Chris and Alonso and discovered how they fell in love, nevertheless for me Back Off! That’s My Jock worked well because the author was great at filling in what I missed in the previous book.

I liked this book a lot, it was well paced, well written and with amazing characters. Each of them, especially the second ones, was amazing. I can already anticipate you I’m dying to have Rob story in my hands. He is the friend I never had and I so want to have. I met Ellis (and Cole just in few scenes)  and he was just how remember him, caring and careful of the people around him. I loved Doug because he made up his mind and went after who he wants, waiting patiently for his Sam to be brave enough to follow his heart.

What I didn’t like and brought down my rating just a little was the final scene with Sam’s dad. I’m not going into details because I don’t want to spoil the plot, but IMO it was really unnecessary for a kind of book like this. It would have been a great story evenly. It added too much drama to a novel where all the elements were perfectly balanced until that point. It left me a bad taste in my mouth.

Plus the sex scenes were too many to me but this is a preference of mine, with characters so young I want a litlle less sex.

I feel I can recommend Back Off! That’s My Jock especially if you’re a fan of the series or of the suthor, or if you’re looking for a funny, sexy and well done story.

The cover art by Anne Cain is not a winner to me, simply cause I don’t like all that red on it.
