“I know you’re awake.”

Feeling Corey’s lips smile against his back, Eric rolled over to face him. Damn, he was so beautiful. Eric had no idea how he’d gotten so lucky to have Corey want him, but as long as he did, Eric would make the most of it, even though he knew how much it would hurt to say good-bye. Because Eric didn’t expect a future or even a tomorrow, he’d take these moments and tuck them away for later.

“How’d you sleep?”

Yawning and scratching his head, Corey shook the hair from his eyes. “Like the dead. Man, you wore me out.”

They gazed at each other, Eric feeling the heat rise to his face. He’d never been intimate with someone he wasn’t emotionally invested in, but something about Corey mesmerized him. Eric was the helpless moth, and Corey possessed that incandescent glow that drew him so close, he could feel the singe of fire.

“Um, well, after we shower, I think I should make breakfast for us. We never had a chance to write down our dinner last night or anything, and I think that’s important.”

Corey unwound himself from Eric and sat up cross-legged on the bed. Fully dressed, the man was a distraction. Naked and disheveled from sleep? Impossible to resist. Eric wanted to pull Corey close and do all the dirty things he’d only seen in porno movies. But showing restraint, Eric rose from the bed to go to the bathroom.

“We kinda got busy with other stuff.”

His heart jumped at Corey’s infectious grin, and he knew from the sensuous glow in Corey’s eyes, he too wanted a repeat of the night before. But pushing aside thoughts of kissing Corey and sucking his cock, Eric focused on the practical.

“Uh, yeah. What do you want for breakfast? I have eggs or oatmeal and fruit. Think about it.”

He closed the bathroom door behind him and rested against it for a moment, overwhelmed by the previous night, then waking up to find Corey hadn’t changed his mind and remained attracted to him. He wondered what would happen if he did lose all his weight. Would Corey want him then?

An Ali Audiobook Review: Vassily the Beautiful (The ESTO Universe) by Angel Martinez and Greg Boudreaux (Narrator)

Vassily Belikov, composer and pampered son of privilege, suffered neurological damage in the accident that killed his father. Resentful of being treated as an invalid, he lives as a recluse, dependent on his mother. That changes the day she brings home a new husband with two sons of his own.

When deep-space pirates capture Vassily’s mother, he’s left to the mercy of his cruel, amoral stepfather. Fighting addiction and his physical shortcomings, he’s forced to seek out the criminal mastermind Baba Yaga for a crucial piece of equipment. While she agrees to deal with him if he beats his Exoticus addiction, paranoia and mysterious intentions infuse her household. Drawn to her fierce, suspicious youngest son, certain his actions are all carefully observed, Vassily must find the courage to face both his fears and his desires if he expects to survive. 
I wasn’t sure about this book at the beginning.  Vassily was very fragile and made some decisions that didn’t make any sense to me.  Some of the abuse by his step-father was also a bit hard to read.  But when Vassily heads across the city to find the infamous Baba Yaga the story just took off out of the gate.  I loved it from then until the end.  
 
This is a sci-fi setting but it is not heavy on that aspect.  I mention that because I’m not a big sci-fi fan but I feel like there were just small aspects to this and really it just felt like a story in another universe.  It was easy to read and the world building was detailed enough for you to get the feel for how and where they live, but wasn’t overwhelming and didn’t overshadow the story.
 
I think the author did a great job with the characters.  There were a lot and they all stood out as individuals.  The villains were wonderfully bad, Vassily, once he starts to stand up for himself, was sweet and charming, and Baba Yaga and her sons were just awesome.  They were the highlight of the story for me.  
 
I loved the pairing of Vassily and Sumerki.   It was such a great opposites attract pairing.  Vassily soothed and mellowed Sumi out and Sumi’s fierceness gave Vassily the strength he needed.  
 
This audiobook was narrated by Greg Boudreaux and I thought he did a great job.  There were a lot of characters so there were a lot of voices, plus there were a lot of different accents.  I felt like he did them all really well.  This was my first time listening to this narrator but he will be going on my list of people to look for in future audiobooks.
 
Overall I enjoyed everything about this.  It was a unique plot and a sweet love story.  By the end I was fully invested in the characters and I really hope this author will revisit this world one day and give both of Sumi’s brothers stories also.
 
Cover:  I think the cover is nicely done.  I think it sets the feel for the book really well and the character on the cover fits the MC.  I also think the color scheme is attractive and eye catching.

A Barb the Zany Old Lady Audiobook Review: Imperfect Harmony by Jay Northcote and narrated by Mark Steadman

Rating: 4.5 stars out of 5

This was a terrific story, made even better by Mark Steadman’s audio performance. Jay Northcote’s books seem to get progressively better and he’s up there among my favorites now. In fact, his stories are among the ones I reach for when I’m feeling down or stressed as they always lighten my heart.

This is no exception as we see the love story between John Fletcher, an older man who is grieving for his long-term partner who was killed two years before, and twenty-two year old Rhys Callington, who also happens to be grieving the tragic loss of his lover and best friend.

The men become friends and then lovers, and as their affection grows, John begins to have second thoughts while Rhys is in favor of second chances. Mark Steadman takes us through all the emotional turmoil and angst we’d expect from this May-December, nineteen-year age-gap romance. But, the beauty of the story lies in the men’s personalities, their struggles to overcome their grief—individually and together—and John’s final awakening to the gift he’s been given for a second chance at love.

Very sweet and romantic, as well as, an interesting storyline and endearing characters. I highly recommend this audiobook.

A Barb the Zany Old Lady Audiobook Review: See Me (Lightning Tales #3) by K.C. Wells and Joel Leslie (Narrator)

Great story and great narration! There’s not much I love more than enemies to lovers, gay men in touch with their feminine side, drag queens, coming out, and stories of redemption. This one has it all, including a new favorite couple brought to life by the very talented voice actor, Joel Leslie.

Marty Cavanaugh is deep in the closet, as the story opens, and only allows himself to have quick oral sex with drag queens, aka men dressed as women. Call it a subconscious attempt to pretend he’s straight, or call it deplorable. Either way, he’s coming to see just how damaged he is. When the new drag queen at his favorite club refuses to meet him for his usual, he’s intrigued. Little does he know, he’s been spotted by her, and she recognizes him as the boy who hung with the pack who made his life miserable in high school. Adrian/Adrienne has never forgotten Marty and now sees her chance to get back at him by shining the spotlight of humiliation on him at her drag show.

But payback doesn’t taste quite as good as revenge usually does, so when remorse and regret begin to eat at Adrien’s conscience he discovers that this Marty is not the same as the boy who was afraid to stand up to his bully buddies to defend Adrien when they were kids. This Marty is willing to come out of his self-imposed closet to stand up for a coworker and to listen to Adrien when he comes to Marty’s house to apologize. And when the two discover just how well they fit together, the romance, which has been waiting in the wings for years, finally blossoms.

In the hands of this outstanding narrator, the story comes to life, and I felt as if I were sitting in the audience at a movie theater watching it unfold. The story itself was terrific as the author filled in the backstory of both characters and incorporated visits from both couples from the first two books as well. I always love a chance to revisit past couples as it adds more dimension to each subsequent story. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this one to anyone who enjoys MM romance, and in particular, stories that include the tags I previously mentioned as well as a bit of fem lingerie, and yes, virgins. Really, what’s not to like about his one? Highly recommended—in audio form, of course!

Cover art is stunning and works for the story.
