Excerpt

Gareth shifted uneasily in the darkened amphitheater. Another scene change. The effects were lovely and sometimes awe-inspiring, but he’d gotten the idea in the first half hour. He was ready to go.

He glanced to his left at Edge, who seemed fascinated with the show. Intriguing, since Edge had the attention span of a gnat. The other guys were more restless, jabbing each other when the bare-breasted art pieces appeared, but they managed to stay on the near side of rude.

He settled back for the duration. Maybe a little catnap. The lights came up as he started to close his eyes. He heard an indrawn breath and looked up. Holy, bloody, everlasting hell.

In the center of the vast stage, on a rotating platform in a single perfect spotlight, was David, the masterwork of Michelangelo. Gareth had seen it in Florence several times, and every sense he had told him he was looking at the actual statue, although his mind knew this was a human being. Glowing, luminous, absolutely still… sweet bloody Christ, how could someone do it? How could they have found a person so perfect?

He noticed a deep stillness in the audience and also among his mates. Edge was absolutely motionless. Unusual for him. But the statue, the guy, was just that beautiful.

Gareth cocked his head. The model’s legs were not as big and muscular as the Michelangelo. This “statue” was a bit leaner and even more graceful. The pedestal kept turning. He squinted. Bloody hell, he’d seen that perfect ass before. He peered into the pool of light as the David rotated. He’d seen those amazing cheekbones.

It was the guy from the beach and the shop. Gareth rifled through his program for the name. David Underwood. The one who owned the gallery. The fag. Gareth shifted onto his hip, leaning away from Edge. Wouldn’t do to let his pouf-hating friend see his massive erection.

A MelanieM Release Day Review: Treasure for Treasure (Beings in Love #7) by R. Cooper

Rating: 5 stars out of 5

treasure-by-treasureA Being(s) in Love Story

In the nineteenth century, the dragon Dìzhèn put the small coastal town of Everlasting under her protection. Her family was supposed to carry on the tradition, but all of Dìzhèn the Great’s heirs eventually left rather than live in the shadow of such a powerful dragon.

Only the youngest dragon of the current generation remains: Zarrin, the softhearted disgrace of his family. He might be weak, small, and afraid, but he is determined to show the humans they have not been forgotten… one human in particular. The problem is, Zarrin can barely get that human to talk to him.

It should be a dream come true to have a dragon trying to get his attention. But Joe refuses to bow to Zarrin like everyone else. Yes, Zarrin is sexy, oddly gentle for a dragon, and stares at Joe with a gaze so hot it makes him shiver. But hurt, mistrustful Joe can’t believe Zarrin’s promises that he’s here to stay. Joe doesn’t realize he is the treasure Zarrin has been looking for his whole life, a treasure he once let slip through his fingers out of fear. Now, to win Joe’s trust, Zarrin has to be brave and become as strong as Dìzhèn herself.

Treasure for Treasure (Beings in Love #7) by R. Cooper is another wonder of the slow build in story writing.  I’m a long time fan of both R. Cooper’s, this series, and this style of narrative.   R. Cooper has never rushed into anything when coming to a character build or story thread.  Its always a long and winding path this author takes us on.    We get a feel for the location, the geography, the village, the local townsfolk, and the main characters in a leisurely yet sure manner.  Much like a expect dry stacking those field walls of stone, Cooper leaves little space between the layers as quietly and slowly each character fleshes out and becomes deep and believable.

Joe we meet in all his past and then current pain and conflicted feelings about the town and the dragons who own it.  His sense of being an outcast, his sexuality as part of the cause is contrasted with that of the statue of the dragon in the square.  Powerless versus the power implied.  Its a wonderful starting point, especially where the author takes the story and Joe next.

Joe is such a special character, a believable human, pained, flawed, artistic, and angry.  Then comes Zarrin,  And in this character, Cooper really rises because you always believe that Zarrin is truly a dragon who can take the shape of a human.  Not a human masquerading as a dragon.  His thoughts are that of a dragon who doesn’t quite understand the humans he’s supposed to be protecting.  His emotions?  Also not that of a human as well.  Its as though the author has authentic knowledge of what a dragon must actually be like should be exist.  Or at least one like Zarrin, beautiful golden Zarrin who wants to claim his Treasure but has no idea how to do it.

He does get some help from the most unlikely places.  There’s a marvelous secondary cast of characters.  And the townspeople are as varied as one might expect to find in a real town, from the phobic to the hunters to those accepting and warmhearted.

And there’s Joe and Zarrin’s slow build to understanding and a relationship.  Just waiting for that first kiss is something else.  But the reward is just as great.  I was never frustrated as one might expect because I was so fascinated by the process and trying to see when and how Zarrin and Joe were going to figure it all out. I was so engaged in their own misunderstandings that the places where I might have been frustrated passed right by.

This is just such a  marvelous tale.  Of love and romance, of dragons and treasures found.  Of two beings so right for each other that nothing could stand in their way.  Not misunderstandings, not a town, nothing.  I loved this novel.  Its one I highly recommend, especially if you’re a fan of the slow build.

Cover art by Paul Richmond.  For some reason, this cover just seems off, the proportions or something, which is  unusual in a Paul Richmond cover.  Just not a fan of this one.

A Jeri Release Day Review: Noble Intentions by Andrew Grey

Rating: 3.5 stars out of 5
noble-intentionsOne thing you can count on with an Andrew Grey book is a good romance. He didn’t disappoint.
Robert is a barrister in England working for the person who didn’t always have a voice. The old man getting evicted, the small shop owner being sued, etc. Raised by his mother, they are very close and see each other often. But then his world is turned upside down when he finds out an uncle he didn’t know about died and being the next male heir, he inherits not only the estate but the title of Earl of Hanford. And the enormous debt left behind.
On a trip to America for business, he signs up with a match maker and is quickly set up on a date with Daniel. A super rich business man who came from nothing and made himself into everything. But no matter how much money he has, he still feels like that kid who went to prep school on scholarship because his mother didn’t have the money. The rich kids at school didn’t let him forget it either.
Robert and Daniel expect very little of their last minute date, but find themselves drawn together. Their chemistry is undeniable. So once they really start talking, they find that they can help each other out. Daniel has the money to help Andrew and Andrew has the title that would make Daniel really feel as if he has made it in life, A business agreement if you will. Until real feelings get involved.
So as they work together to bring the estate back to life, they find themselves falling in love.
I found this to be a sweet, romantic story. I enjoyed hearing about the history involved and how Daniel so quickly thought of different things to bring money in to the estate so that Robert didn’t have to let it go and sell it. I expected Daniel to be the prickly one of the relationship, but really it was Robert. Daniel did everything he could for Robert, out of love and well being but Robert was just seeing it as Daniel trying to simply get a title.
Allowing themselves to love and be loved. Figuring out that they were far better together than separate. A lovely, sweet, romantic story.
Cover art by L.C. Chase works perfectly for the story and characters.

A VVivacious Advent Calendar Review Day 12: #ChristmasHatesYouToo by E.F. Mulder

Rating – 2 Stars out of 5

christmashatesyoutoo-by-e-f-mulderNoel Beebe is unlucky in love as can be demonstrated by the fact that he never even got to see the last guy he fell in love with. Now Noel is back on social networking sites to get another chance at love and Ethan might just be the answer.

Ethan and Noel bond over the fact that they both hate their birthdays.  So as a colossal fuck you to Christmas for ruining Noel’s birthday they spend an entire day denouncing the holiday spirit in the air. When the videos of Noel making a very good impression of Scrooge get viral on the internet, Noel is in for a world of hate. But looks like Noel’s infamy might finally get him some luck in his love life.

This story comes across as a very disjointed read. Personally I just couldn’t understand or get behind the sequence of events in this story because to me it felt like the author decided on what would happen first and then went back and thought about how this would/could further the story. So the story reads like a series of events awkwardly finishing in an ending which feels unnatural.

What I couldn’t get behind in this story was Noel’s social networking as a means to meet new people. I mean I guess it might be the new future but Noel didn’t take any precautions to safeguard his interests, I mean he gave his address to two men without verifiably knowing anything about the other two. Also I feel that the blurb of this story is misleading, I thought I was going to read a story about a guy taking revenge on Christmas for overshadowing his birthday but instead we get a guy who actually loves Christmas and is instead dragged along by another guy who wants him to denounce Christmas just for fun.

A lot of the side characters felt like an afterthought. Initially when we meet Noel he comes across as a insanely optimistic loner reeking of desperation, the kind of guy who spends all his time on social networking sites, talks to his dog like he doesn’t have anybody else to talk to and most incriminating of all spends days in an online relationship where he reveals too much information and even ends up falling in love only to have the guy vanish on him. But by the end of the story Noel has eight siblings, a best friend and even some awesome work friends who he is very close too and not only that he seems to be involved a lot in social causes and in the lives of his god-daughters. Now I don’t know about you but for me Noel’s latter characteristics seemed to oddly contradict his former ones.

Overall this story is awkward and its main character is too gullible and comes across as a push over.

Cover Art by L. C. Chase. I liked the cover a lot; it was a nice representation of the story.

Grace Kilian Delaney author of Seven Minutes  is here at Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words talking about Seven Minutes, her latest release, and answering questions  on writing. Welcome, Grace!

~Our Grace Kilian Delaney Interview~

  1. Where do you normally draw your inspiration for a book from?  A memory, a myth, a place or journey, or something far more personal? People, occupations, myths, experiences, and sometimes a turn of words can set off a story in my head. I used to love hair metal as a kid and thought the kids who liked heavy metal–not hair bands like I did–were cooler, even though I couldn’t get into Metallica (I still feel guilty over that). I gave Stone that. He was one of those growly metal singers everyone would’ve found cool, mean, and angry. Devon, who is definitely more light-hearted, is perfectly comfortable with dressing as a woman or a man and feels confident and sexy either way. With him, I dove into the side of myself that struggled with dressing and acting like a girl. I loved that Devon just accepted himself as is and wished I’d felt as liberated from gender conformity at his age.
  2. Are you a planner or a pantzer when writing a story? And why? I plan. My first novel is in the rewrite stage for the third time–maybe you can guess why I plan now? I find that having a basic outline and some scene ideas written down keeps me focused, even if I don’t end up in the direction I initially thought. I allow myself that flexibility. When I first began Seven Minutes I learned who Stone and Devon were, after some intense character exploration and helpful ideas from my friend, Paige Gabriel. From there I devised an outline for the story. After that point, beta readers and friends helped me keep the story focused and characters acting within their nature. Much thanks to them!
  3. Contemporary, supernatural, fantasy, or science fiction narratives or something else?  Does any genre draw you more than another when writing it or reading it and why does it do so? I think the heart of any story is in the characters; the setting can be any place so long as the characters are well written. That being said, I prefer contemporary and supernatural romances. Fellow Dreamspinner author Santino Hassell does an amazing job exploring various personalities humanity in his Five Boroughs Series, as does Nicola Haken in Broken. I haven’t read enough supernatural m/m romance, though The Necromancer’s Dance and its sequel by SJ Himes were quite good. Oisin, Devon’s best friend (pronounced “ocean”), is touched with the gift of premonition, something I learned when exploring his character after writing Seven Minutes. I recently finished his story, which should be released sometime next year.
  4. Were you an early reader or were you read to and what childhood books had an impact on you as a child that you remember to this day and why? I actually remember throwing a temper tantrum when I was in elementary school because I had to read a book and write a book report. My frustration with reading changed by sixth grade, where I surpassed the expected reading grade level. I remember a book I loved at that age was The Golem in the Gears, a pure fantasy/adventure novel, where dust bunnies were a real, living thing—that sold me! From there, I got into Anne Rice’s vampire series, Stephen King’s The Shining and Pet Sematary, and Dean Koontz. Yeah, I was into hair bands and loved to be scared.
  5. What question would you ask yourself here? Why do I write in first person? I feel I get to know the character and what’s going on inside of his head better, though it is difficult maintaining different attributes and expressions for each character. I’ve heard of method acting and I imagine its a bit like that. I get to be these people for a moment in time and it’s perfectly sane as a writer (is a sane writer an oxymoron?). I haven’t ruled out third person and may attempt something with voice in the future.
  6. If you were writing your life as a romance novel, what would the title be? Love at Second Sight. I’d known my husband for three years and never thought of him on a romantic level. After not seeing him for months, we just happened to bump into each other at a club. I swear when I looked at him that night I thought “I’m going to marry him.” We’ve been together since. (Plot bunny, anyone?)

About Seven Minutes

Can love be found in seven minutes?

Heavy metal singer Stone Manson never acknowledged his attraction to men. But when he meets sexy cross-dresser Devon at a party and ends up paired with him for a game of Seven Minutes in Heaven, he can’t deny his reaction. His confusion leads him to mess up—big time—with Devon, but after some soul-searching, he decides to do everything in his power to show Devon how he feels.

Devon doesn’t make a habit of dating closeted men, and he isn’t about to be anyone’s experiment. It’ll take a lot to convince him that Stone is serious about a relationship, but Stone is certainly giving it his best effort—and Devon is warming up to the idea of the hot, tattooed rock star in his bed, and maybe even in his life. And when a threat from Devon’s past reemerges, Stone might offer just the support Devon needs to get through it.

Excerpt

Stone

We walked into the dimly lit hallway. In the half-light, Devon’s features softened. He was… beautiful. Honestly and naturally beautiful. For the first time in fucking months, my dick decided to come to life. WTF. But he had these perfect lips that begged to be kissed, I swear. They looked so soft. And his fair skin would make any supermodel jealous. How’d he get so clean-shaven? Wax? Women waxed their mustaches…. Did he?

Internal bells and warnings went off, reminding me Devon was not a woman… well, he lacked feminine parts, but that probably didn’t make him less of a woman. I mean, women get hysterectomies and mastectomies and they are still women. So what if Devon didn’t have the parts? Everything else about him was pure feminine. Did I seriously just think that? I rambled. I never ramble.

I had seven minutes with the perfect excuse to explore these feelings. If Matty could grind away on emo boy without anyone thinking twice about it, then I could most definitely taste those lips.

“We don’t have to do anything.” He shifted, knotting his fingers together. “You seem pretty straight and—”

A loud yell came from the other room, reminding us to use tongue.

“And I’m not. So no pressure.”

Devon sucked in his bottom lip, dragging his top teeth against it. He looked scared shitless, like I might pummel him for being stuck here with me. His gaze darted around in the semidarkness. It hit some trigger inside of me, some protective urge. I’d seen that look as a kid: the fearful expression of waiting for a beating. Seeing it on his beautiful face twisted my gut.

No one better ever fucking hurt you, kid. I’d make sure of it.

He gave me the out I had hoped for. Sure, I could hang here for a few more minutes and remain completely safe, never knowing what his lips tasted like, or if his body felt as feminine as it looked, or what those long fingers felt like stroking my back—

Aw, fuck it.

My heart jumped into my throat as I leaned in and kissed him. Those intoxicating lips tasted of vanilla and a hint of the sugary margarita thing he drank. I kissed him some more, sucking on his bottom lip, running my tongue across it. He let out an approving groan, and damn if that didn’t make my dick swell. I sucked harder, and then I nipped. More sounds, moans, encouraging me to continue. Ignoring the part of my brain reminding me Devon was a dude with dude junk dangling between his legs, I parted his lips with my tongue, forcefully diving into his mouth as if he supplied my oxygen and I couldn’t get enough air.

My limbs electrified as he slammed me against the wall, pressing his hips and his groin against mine. Fucking turned me on to be thrown like that. I grabbed his waist, pulling him closer as I continued plundering his mouth. A low, hungry growl rumbled as he rutted against my jean-covered cock. Painfully hard, I welcomed the friction of those hips, wishing I could bury myself inside of him. Him. Fuck. I couldn’t feel his dick, and it disappointed me. I reached down to his front, risking being swatted away—I mean, how fucking rude is that to grab someone’s junk when KISS and TONGUE were the directions? Through our kisses, I felt him smiling.

“Let’s save that for later, sweetie.” He lapped my bottom lip before biting it just enough to shoot a jolt of pleasure straight to my groin. Holy. Fuck. I swear that move was so fucking hot, my lip blistered from the heat.

I dove in again, kissing him, running my hands along his lithe frame, feeling the curves of his body, his pert ass, forgetting all about the seven minutes until the annoying voices from the other room yelled.

“Time’s up!”

Devon broke off the kiss, eyes wild and dilated. A mischievous know-it-all grin shone on his face. I stole another kiss, feeling a sense of pride knowing his lips were swollen because of me. I kissed a boy and I liked it. And I didn’t know what in fuck to do with that information… aside from push it down.

About the Author

Grace Kilian Delaney lives somewhere in paradise—mentally. In the wee hours of the morning, and with an audience of a dog and two cats, she writes about hot and horny men. Thankfully the animals don’t care if she talks to herself, which she does albeit quietly as to not wake her husband. When not writing words, Grace can be found composing music, pretending she’s an opera singer, playing piano, twisting herself into yoga positions, or sweating it out at the gym.

A Stella Advent Calendar Review Day 11: Popcorn Garlands by Ariel Tachna

RATING 4,5 out of 5 stars

popcorn-garlandsCarlos Mendez spends all year working hard at his Houston-based landscaping business, and he sends every spare penny he earns back to his family in Mexico. By the time the holidays roll around, he doesn’t have much patience for the unadulterated greed and consumerism paraded past him. But a chance meeting with his neighbor, Ned Williams, and Ned’s cancer-stricken daughter, might help to remind him of the real meaning of the season—something beyond the gaudy lights and extravagant displays—something he wants to be a part of.

Popcorn Garlands by Ariel Tachna moved me deeply. It perfectly shows what Christmas should actually be, the true spirit of this holiday and not all the materialism we are so used of and too often abused.

Carlos kindness and his crew’s families’ generosity is so huge and lovely broke my heart. Versus little Sonia who is fiercely beating a bad illness. Versus a dad, Nat, who is struggling with life, dealing with his daugther medical bills, a new job and no money to scrap and buy a present to the sweetest child ever.

Although  the story is more a HFN because there is really no space for a development in the MCs relationship, I was pretty satisfied. I know Nat and Carlos are working on their HEA.

The cover art by Paul Richmond is awesome like everything he does.

Tis the Season for Holiday Stories and This Week at Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words

Tis the Season for Holiday Stories

Have you noticed a preponderance of book covers with snow on them?  Maybe with elves or people with red hats or maybe even a stocking or two?  Yes, its that time of the year when all the wonderful holiday stories are releasing from authors and publishers everywhere.  And its not just Christmas stories but stories from other religions as well, from Jewish holidays such as Hanukkah to Yule, the holiday season is spreading warm, love and special meanings to those involved in the celebrations.

Its a time of giving, and joy.  A time of remembrance, and yes, even sorrow for some. It can be magic.  And it can be painful.  Full of stress and overwhelming optimism for the future.  What a bundle of conflicting emotions this season can bring with it, along with the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year, when the fear of the dark and loss could be driven back by songs, a yule log and people gathering close together to watch for the rising sun.

What I have always loved most about these stories is the variety.  I never know what to expect from the multitude of stories we get here at Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words.  Christmas in Space?  You betcha!  Vampires in love?  Yes indeedy!  Stories of Yule and lost visitors in Greenland, yes, one of my favorites last year by Freddy McKay.  This year is no exception.  I finished a wonderful story about loss and recovery during Hanukkah,  review still coming.   There are comedies, dramas, relationships of all kinds…all wrapped up in love and romance.  Be still my heart!  And those of the rest of the reviewers here at Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words.  We love this time of the year!

yule-log1

Be sure to check out all the reviews and holiday tours we have for you all in our schedule below.  Maybe make a list for yourself.  Or given if you love to give books as a gift.  Tis the season after all!

In the Spotlight: Cowboys Don’t Come Out by Tara Lain (excerpt and giveaway)

Cowboys Don’t Come Out
by Tara Lain

Blurb:
Rand McIntyre settles for good enough. He loves his small California ranch, raising horses, and teaching riding to the kids he adores—but having kids of his own and someone to love means coming out, and that would jeopardize everything he’s built. Then, despite his terror of flying, he goes on a holiday to Hana, Hawaii with his parents and meets the dark and mysterious Kai Kealoha, a genuine Hawaiian cowboy. Rand takes to Kai’s kid brother and sister as much as he drools over Kai, but the guy sports more prickles than a horned toad, and more secrets than the exotic land he comes from.
Kai’s earned his privacy and lives to protect his “kids.” He ought to stay away from the big, handsome cowboy for everyone’s sake—but since the guy’s just a haole on a short vacation, how much damage can he do? When all of Kai’s worst fears and Rand’s darkest nightmares come true at once, there’s not much chance for two cowboys who can’t—or won’t—come out.

Excerpt

He stopped and tried to hear over the rushing of the surf out beyond the reef if anyone else hid in the dark. No sounds. Fortunately, no big water hit this beach, so he didn’t have to worry about getting swamped. Actually, between the lapping waves and the brilliant moonlight, the scene resembled some fairy-tale romance. Fuck that.

Right where the dry sand verged on the wet, he flopped on his butt. What she’d said—that he settled for a good-enough life. That he wasn’t happy. Don’t I get to decide that?

He leaned back on his elbows. Yeah, but she’s right. I created a whole life—as if I was somebody else. Most people find “the one” and build a future so it suits them both. I imagined a cowboy and slid into his boots—Rand McIntyre. Say that with a drawl, son. Just one problem. I’m gay—always have been—and cowboys don’t come out. Where does that leave me? A-fucking-lone, pardner. Always will be.

You’re not the only gay cowboy.

Have you seen Brokeback Mountain? Shit.

Phosphorescence sparkled on the tops of the waves farther out. Pretty. Guess there could be all kinds of weird man-eating shit in that water.

Do you think more sharks and barracudas swim at night than during the day?

Yeah, right.

He sprang up, stripped his Hawaiian shirt off and tossed it on the sand, then pulled off the shorts his mom had given him. Commando. What would it feel like to have fishes nibbling at his balls? Not like anybody else was doing any nibbling. He strode into the water. Whoa! Not cold, just startling.

When he waded out past his thighs, his penis and balls started to float. He chuckled. Kind of like being a kid in the bathtub. Endless hours of fun playing with your own built-in toys. A few more steps, and he submerged to his shoulders. He gave a tiny shiver. Weird being sunk in inky blackness. Still, the water felt good. He kicked off and swam a few yards out, turned, and stroked back towards shore. He wasn’t a good enough swimmer to push his luck alone at night.

After treading water a couple of minutes, he pulled himself back into the shallows and sat on the hard wet beach. He glanced down. Some shrinkage, but his balls still lay on the sand. Remember to rinse them off or you’ll itch. Slowly he released his breath. What was he going to do? Answer? Same as always. Nothing. He couldn’t risk all the great shit he’d made to try to make it better.

A Stella Advent Calendar Review Day 10: Traditions by Ann Anderson

RATING 4,25 out of 5 stars

traditions-by-ann-andersonWhen Marcus and James started dating a few years ago, James invited Marcus home to spend the holidays with his close, Christmas-loving family. Marcus quickly realized once was enough, and since then, he’s stayed behind.

But this year will be different. Though the festivity and chaos make Marcus uncomfortable, he loves James, and he’s decided to put aside his unease so they can spend Christmas together—even if it means losing his hotel room to one of James’s siblings, braving the cold to go caroling, and battling the crowds so the children can visit Santa. It’ll all be worth it if Marcus can take his place in the family’s traditions—and maybe begin a new tradition for the two of them.

Traditions by Ann Anderson was my first book by this author and one of my favorite stories of this year DSP Advent Calendar. I love reading about established couples cause it can be easy to find a HEA but it’s harder to make it works during the years. It’s good to know how two people met and how they achieved their HEA, sometimes it’s better to know what happens later.

I liked Marcus and James’ story. James’ family is huge and a little too much in the Christmas mood, with too many lights to hang, too many carols to hear and sing and too many presents to gift. That is what scared Marcus the first Christmas he spent with them as James’ boyfriend, so much he avoided  joining them in the last years. But it’s a family full of love and this year Marcus has a plan he can act only with the help of James’ father.

A very good and sweet story. Plus I loved the ending, being a romantic at heart, it was a winner to me.

Highly recommended.

The cover art by Paul Richmond is simply amazing as everything he does.

An Alisa Review: Honeymoon Their Way (States of Love) by Morticia Knight

Rating:  4 stars out of 5

honeymoon-their-wayChad has pined for Raudel since high school, but he’s been avoiding him ever since Raudel caught him in an excruciatingly embarrassing moment. So when Chad’s sister invites Raudel to join them for her weeklong prewedding celebration at Lake Tahoe, Chad is horrified. He brainstorms his escape, until reality crashes down and he discovers he’s bunking with Raudel in the last available bedroom at the lakeside retreat.

Thrown together by the bridal party from hell, Chad and Raudel unite and attempt to survive Chad’s bridezilla sister, a crazy grandmother, an overbearing mother, and the search for the perfect chocolate fountain. Despite the little time they have together, they reconnect when unexpected discoveries come to light. Love may find a way amid the nuptial chaos, but it’s unlikely to be exactly the way they expect.

This was such a sweet and enjoyable story.  Chad has pretty much been hiding from life ever since Raudel saw him, not really moving forward or anywhere even after graduating from high school.  Raudel moved away for college after high school and has had to forcibly stop himself from seeking out Chad anytime he visited home.

Raudel and Chad have both been holding out hope that someday the other will open their eyes and see them as a potential partner, but without realizing what the other is thinking.  When they get thrown together at Chad’s sister’s pre-wedding celebration they are forced to confront their feelings for each other.  Raudel realizes that he will have to be the one to step up for them to even begin a relationship let alone have a future.

This story is told from Chad’s point of view, so it is easier to see his emotions and thoughts.  Once we actually get to meet Raudel it isn’t very hard to understand how he feels, unfortunately Chad has incorrectly assumed for years how Raudel would react to what he walked in on in high school.  Seeing both of them open up to each other and see that maybe it’s best to just jump right in was wonderful.  I was happy for them to have a happy ending amidst the pressure of Chad’s bridezilla sister.

Cover art by Alexandria Corza is perfect and I love the visuals for both of the characters.
