Team Up with Sean Michael on his Book Tour for Underground: Special Teams (contest)

✍✍✍✍✍✍✍✍✍✍✍✍SpecialTeamsBanner300x250A

Check out the latest from Sean Michael, Underground: Special Teams.  There is a interview to read, a hot nsfw excerpt to fan yourself over, and a contest to enter!  Now on to our interview…

STRW. A large percentage of your stories have a BDSM content. Why fold that element into your series?

Sean Michael:  Because it’s hot. I love the kink, I love the power play — it throws a whole new dynamic into a story. And some characters need it.

STRW:  The inclusion of kinky sex, including elements of D/s and BDSM get a wide range of treatment from authors, from the knowledgeable to the uninformed. How important is it to you that your stories are regarded as not only sexy and entertaining but factual?

Sean Michael:  Sane, safe and consensual are important to me, but my books are not instruction manuals – they are fiction.

STRW:  I love the way in which you show people why certain characters need to have bdsm in their lives. Which was the first character to show you that you had to go this route in a story?

Sean Michael:  Thank you! Secrets, Skin and Leather was pretty early on, as were the Velvet Glove books. Conner and Desmond were the characters who really started that series for me.

STRW: . Do you find that using BDSM is a turn off or turn on to readers? Or both?

Sean Michael:  I’ve heard from readers on both sides of that one, actually.

STRW: You also write M/M fiction that has little kink to them, some lovely sweet romantic stories. Do you find yourself alternating them to change up your writing or do you wait for the characters and storylines to talk to you?

Sean Michael:  The characters dictate things, though I can usually tell from the start which way they’re going to go. They have on occasion surprised me!

STRW:   You’ve been writing for some time. How has your writing changed over time?

Sean Michael:  I’m writing a lot more kink now than I did in the beginning.

STRW:  You are great friends with BA Tortuga and Julia Talbot. Do you find yourselves bouncing ideas off each other? And perhaps being crit partners too?

Sean Michael:  All the time!

STRW:  Favorite characters you have written?

Sean Michael:  I’m pretty sure I’m not allowed to have favorites. However, the ones that have stayed with me the most would be the Jarheads, a core group of the Hammer Club men, and the men of Chess. But I don’t have favorites. 😉

STRW: What childhood book or story had the greatest impact on you as a child and writer today?

Sean Michael:  I don’t think I could put my finger on one. I’d have to go with just books in general. My folks used to put a book in the crib with me when I was little so I wouldn’t wake them up immediately. Growing up, most evenings were spent sitting in the living room together after supper, reading. Books were very important in my childhood and beyond.

STRW:   What’s next for Sean Michael?

Sean Michael:  I just started a new series that really came out of the blue and it has no deadline, no home as yet, but my God the characters are noisy and hot and I keep sneaking away from the other stories I should be working on to play with Tide, Lance, Ty and Bryan! I say series because while it’s starting with these four, I have a dozen other characters already jumping up and down, demanding their turn.Thank you for the interview!

STRW:  Thanks for stopping  by and agreeing to sit a while in our author interview chair!  Now on to y0ur latest story, Underground: Special Teams!

Book Name: Underground: Special Teams
Author Name: Sean Michael

Author Bio:

Often referred to as “Space Cowboy” and “Gangsta of Love” while still striving for the moniker of “Maurice,” Sean Michael spends his days surfing, smutting, organizing his immense gourd collection and fantasizing about one day retiring on a small secluded island peopled entirely by horseshoe crabs. While collecting vast amounts of vintage gay pulp novels and mood rings, Sean whiles away the hours between dropping the f-bomb and pursuing the kama sutra by channeling the long lost spirit of John Wayne and singing along with the soundtrack to “Chicago.”

A long-time writer of complicated haiku, currently Sean is attempting to learn the advanced arts of plate spinning and soap carving sex toys.
Barring any of that? He’ll stick with writing his stories, thanks, and rubbing pretty bodies together to see if they spark.

Underground: Special Teams Blurb:

When Hunter Simms goes undercover at an underground BDSM party, the last thing he expects to see is SWAT’s leading shooter Keifer Magnessen bound, gagged, plugged and very naked. He is immediately drawn to Keifer, and wants to get to know his fellow cop better. Much better.

With such a high stress job, Keifer needs to give up control on his down time in order to decompress, but it’s a secret he holds close to his vest. So, when Hunter walks into his chosen place to submit, he tries to cut and run. Lucky for him, Hunter is shrewd, persistent and quite possibly just the Dom that Keifer needs.

Can these two strong men find a way to make their personal lives mesh?

 Underground: Special Teams Excerpt (NSFW):

“Do you want me to observe only this evening?”

“For a few hours at least. Jack has vouched for you, but it’s important to learn us, how we work.”

Hunter nodded slowly. If these people were forcing men to be subs, making them stay, abusing them, he’d be very surprised. This level of care didn’t come out of a place of abuse.

“Let’s go downstairs. I’ll introduce you around. Ben wants to shave his boy today, head to toe, and he wants an audience.”

“Even eyebrows?” That was some hard core shit. And wouldn’t that surprise people who thought BDSM was all about whips and chains?

“Everything. This isn’t a punishment, but Pete is having serious issues with hiding from Ben.”

“Ah, Ben sounds like a very wise man.” Inventive, attentive, a good master.

Hunt already liked this group. If it turned out anyone was being held here against their will, if they weren’t on the up and up, he was going to be extremely disappointed.

“They’re both learning, but they’re getting there.”

“Are they a new couple?” Hunt asked, watching Dan move around the kitchen, triple checking everything.

Jack answered him. “Yeah, Ben has been waiting for Pete for years, but the connection is new.”

“I look forward to seeing them together, then. Watching their scene.”

“It should be intense, emotional. Pete is a fighter.”

Hunt nodded, already affected, just by the conversation.

Daniel chuckled. “Pete used to be a surgeon, and he had a breakdown. Went to work on a construction crew before he started working from home.”

“Those high pressure jobs often produce subs, don’t they?” The best sub Hunt had ever had was a man who ran a fortune five hundred company.

“You know it. We have a number of subs that are desperate to break, to allow someone else in.”

“I enjoy a challenge.” Hunt had to remind himself he was here on the job, not to find someone.

Jack grinned. “Me, I’m looking for a sweet boy, a good bottom who likes a hard fuck but isn’t pushing constantly.”

Daniel’s laughter filled the air. “In other words, you’re not looking for a boy like Keif?”

“Fuck, no. No, Keif needs an owner, not a Dom.”

Hunt’s eyebrow went up. “Keif?”

“One of our unattached subs,” Daniel said. “He’s got the need to be hard-used, broken down. No one man can handle him, no offense Jack.”

“None taken.”

“Is he here tonight?” Hunter asked, intrigued despite himself.

“He’s with our group every night he’s not on call.”

“Is that a yes?” Because he hadn’t heard a yes.

“He is here — plugged, bound, gagged, and, I would imagine well-sounded by now.”

Jesus Christ. A bolt of pure desire went through Hunt.

Daniel grabbed a case of water. “Come on, guys. Let’s go down.”

“Can I take anything?” Hunt offered.

“Can you grab the fruit bowl? I find fruit to be hydrating, erotic, and less messy than chocolate.”

“You got it.” These guys were pros at this hosting a BDSM party thing and Hunt found himself once again hoping they were all on the up and up. He wanted to play, not to make arrests.

Following Dan downstairs, he felt his anticipation ramping up.

Instead of a dark, club-like atmosphere, downstairs there was a room with couches and lamps, pillows. It looked totally normal, at least until he saw the cage in one corner. The massage table. The man kneeling, wearing nothing but a collar.

Hunter took everything in, eyes moving over the men in the room, cataloging them. The man in the collar had to be Pete, the slender, whip-like man looking on proudly, Ben. There were a couple of men sitting together, a few wandering. In the back, bound and ring gagged, cock stuffed was…

Wait. Wait. Hunter knew that shock of near-white hair, the icy blue eyes. He saw that face every time the SWAT team was called out. Keifer Magnessen.

Barb, the Zany Old Lady, Review: A Rose By Any Other Name (Fallen Rose #2) by Charlie Cochet

Rating: 4.5 stars out of 5

A Rose by Any Other NameJourney back into the Roaring 20’s, the days of Prohibition, where illicit gaming, illicit alcohol, and illicit sex can be had for the right price. And the right price gets you into the Pantheon, a heavenly operation full of scantily clad young men who are yours if you have the cash. The sweetest prize of all is Eros, a blond angel, complete with wings, who will take your breath away. Usually seen in the company of his best friends and fellow angels, Himerus and Pothos, one look at Eros destroys all of Edwards’s brain cells.

Edward Joseph Clarence Junior is celebrating his 30th birthday. His cousins, Maxfield and Albert, have brought him to this slice of heaven, and Maxfield has arranged some very interesting private entertainment for him. He submits, despite his better judgment, but what he wants most of all is to meet Eros. Unfortunately, Eros has been booked for the night by Ares, an evil-looking, powerful and influential man who will use brute force if necessary to get his way.

Eros is Julius, the young male prostitute we met in Roses in the Devil’s Garden. It was Julius, along with his best friends, Lawry and Terry, who escaped the raid the night he met Harlan. Lawry and Terry have come with him to the Pantheon and now play the roles of Himerus and Pothos.

We learn that Ares wants all of Eros, not just for sex, but to own him heart and soul, but Julius won’t succumb to him. In fact, Julius has rules in place that normally keep him protected from allowing men to think they have his heart when they pay for his body. He never sees a man for more than three days in a row, and he never kisses, under any circumstances. Ares intends to break those rules and break Eros’s stubbornness with them.

Edward returns again and again, hoping to gain an audience with Eros, and when he finally does, Eros/Julius is less than impressed with him. But Edward is nothing if not persistent, and he bombards Julius with kindness, buying his time for a three week period in which he doesn’t make one sexual overture, even though he’d like nothing better. The result of getting to know each other during this time is that Julius does start to care for Edward, and Edward falls head-over-heels in love with Julius. The kissing rule goes out the window, and the two make plans to go away together for a while so that they can avoid Ares’s hold on Julius.

But Ares learns of their plans and destroys the little happiness they’ve gained when he arranges for Edward to be committed to Bellevue Hospital, arranging a bogus diagnosis with Edward’s psychologist. Edward had suffered from anxiety disorder after his time serving in the ambulance corps in Europe, and though he’s been free of issues recently, Ares convinces Edward’s father that he needs to be committed then he moves in to grab Julius and keep him in the Pantheon until he’s finally willing to beg for all Ares can give him.

And this is just the beginning! There’s so much more to this story. There’s romance on multiple fronts as Julius’s friends find love and affection with Edward’s cousins, some more easily than others. Harlan and Nathan become involved when Maxfield and Lawry find evidence supporting Ares’s true identity as a crime syndicate boss. There’s adventure and intrigue and catastrophe when the entire mess comes to a head, and it looks like Edward and Julius may never get to be together. But, of course, Charlie Cochet does not let us down, giving us a HEA for the guys—all of the guys, in fact.

So what did I love in this story? I loved the characters. Julius, Lawry, Terry, Albert, Maxfield, Edward, Nathan and Harlan. Each one of them now has a place in my heart, and I’m so glad the author gave us the side stories of the secondary characters’ romances. I enjoyed the big screen production feel of the Pantheon stage settings—I swear I could hear the music playing in the background. Oh, and one more thing—the author gave us a little peek into a time when Edward met a fella named Jacky, before Jacky joined the French Foreign Legion (The Auspicious Troubles of Chance). Such a nice surprise! Thanks, Charlie!

What didn’t I like? There were a few places where I was lost in the dialogue, places where I couldn’t tell who was speaking. There were also a few segments in which one character referenced something as if it had just happened, and I couldn’t follow what they were talking about. And last, I just couldn’t wrap my brain around the way the final catastrophic event unfolded. Without giving away any spoilers, I can only say that the setting where Edward and Julius met up shouldn’t have still been standing at that point in time. I know that sounds odd, but I really don’t want to give away the concluding drama.

So all that being said, I’ve given this story 4.5 stars. It’s so lovely, complex, intriguing and fun, with wonderful, handsome, warm-hearted characters that I can’t possibly give it any less. If you love historical fiction, then by all mean buy this, and if you simply love an adventure with romance and intrigue, then don’t hesitate—you can’t go wrong.

About SweetwaterSweetwater cover

Wyoming Territory, 1870.

Elijah Carter is afflicted. Most of the townsfolk of South Pass City treat him as a simpleton because he’s deaf, but that’s not what shames him the most. Something in Elijah runs contrary to nature and to God. Something that Elijah desperately tries to keep hidden.

Harlan Crane, owner of the Empire saloon, knows Elijah for what he is—and for all the ungodly things he wants. And Crane isn’t the only one. Grady Mullins desires Elijah too, but unlike Crane, he refuses to push or mistreat the young man.

When violence shatters Elijah’s world, he is caught between two very different men and two devastating urges: revenge and despair. In a boomtown teetering on the edge of a bust, Elijah must face what it means to be a man in control of his own destiny, and choose a course that might end his life . . . or truly begin it for the very first time.

About the Author

Sweetwater_150x300Lisa Henry lives in tropical North Queensland, Australia. She doesn’t know why, because she hates the heat, but suspects she’s too lazy to move. She spends half her time slaving away as a government minion, and the other half plotting her escape.

She attended university at sixteen, not because she was a child prodigy or anything, but because of a mix-up between international school systems early in life. She studied History and English, neither of them very thoroughly.

She shares her house with too many cats, a dog, a green tree frog that swims in the toilet, and as many possums as can break in every night. This is not how she imagined life as a grown-up.

I am happy to welcome Lee Brazil, a favorite author here, to Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words!  Lee is going to settle into our author interview chair, answer some questions and talk about all the books we’re focused on today!  There are three blurbs and excerpts to read and a contest to enter.  Make sure you check them all out!  Now on to our interview.

✍✍✍✍✍✍✍✍✍✍✍✍✍✍✍✍

My Interview with Lee Brazil…

Lee, how do you keep the writing process fresh as prolific as you are as an author?

I think that’s a really tough question to start out with. The key I believe is to keep seeking new experiences in the real world. Walk, read, browse life. When writing doesn’t excite me, it drags. It’s slow going and feels like pulling teeth to get a sentence down. For me, that is when I know its time to pack up the backpack and get out of the office. I’ll go up to the park to hike, or down to the river to walk, or even off to the hardware store.

What is your favorite thing about writing?

My favorite thing about writing is knowing that whatever happens, whatever awful things the characters do to one another, they’re going to end up okay. Every day terrible things happen in our world, and we can only sit back and watch or read them and shake our heads and hurt for those involved. But in the pages of a book, the words of a story you’re writing, you can be assured that everything is going to be all right. Real life doesn’t guarantee happy endings, my kind of fiction does.

What dreams have you been able to live out (if any) through your stories?

LOL. Well, you’re full of the tough questions today. I think I actually live my ultimate fiction every day – my theme is love, and I was fortunate enough at thirty to meet a wonderful man and fall in love. That’s the story I try to tell in all my novellas. I’ve been able to explore things like crime solving with Pulp Friction that sort of fulfill a childhood fantasy. Hm… Scooby Doo and The Hardy Boys have to take credit for that little fantasy- growing up on mysteries obviously had some impact. I never would have read Dashiell Hammett et al if it weren’t for Saturday television. Um… Did I answer that question?

Chance or Cannon? Rory or Finn? Which would you choose?

Finn. Uncovering the complexities of a man who at first seems to have his whole life together, a man who is captain of his own ship and comfortable with the role? Oh yes, it’s been fun trying to get into his head and tear him apart.

If you have written stories all your life (as many writers have), what is the biggest change you’ve  have seen over time?

I have written stories all my life, and poetry. I think I’ve become less literary, more focussed in my writing. Before I wanted to tackle everything, explore the whole tangle of emotions and ideas that jangled in my head. Life and experience have taught me that you can only deal effectively if you narrow your focus. For me, that focus is love and romance and their role in our lives.

Do you have a favorite Muse? Or many?

I consider Havan Fellows my Muse. Why? Because since we met she has been there, reading what I write, encouraging me, helping me find direction when I lose creativity. When she tells me something I wrote is good, I can believe her, and when she tells me its off, I know she’s being honest and that what I write will be better for her input. Occasionally I’ll find a picture or a phrase that inspires me to an idea, or a story. I do my best work when Havan and I sprint and share. It’s incredible to me how that connection works, but nevertheless, it does.

What book is a comfort read for you?

When I need a comfort read I have a shelf of books that I go for – it holds all sorts of things, some John Sandford novels, a few The Cat Who books, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series, some Larry Niven, some high fantasy from the 80’s – Dragon Lance sort of things. Tolkien, John Jakes, Taylor Caldwell’s Captains and Kings.

On my kindle, I have a slew of m/m. If I reach for it, I’ll often find myself re-reading things like Amy Lane’s Chase in Shadow or Litha’s Constant Whim, and Ally Blue’s Love Like Ghosts.

Thanks, Lee.  This has been great.  I always learn something new each time you stop on by!  Now on to Lee’s stories.

Somewhere in a small town in up-state New York are a librarian and a second grade teacher to whom I owe my life. That might be a touch dramatic, but it’s nevertheless one hundred percent true.

Because they taught me the joy of reading, of escaping into worlds crafted of words.

Have you ever been nine years old and sure of nothing so much as that you don’t belong? Looked at the world from behind glasses, and wondered why you don’t fit?

Then turn the page and see… there you are, running from Injun Joe in a dark graveyard; there you are fencing with Athos; there you are…beneath the deep blue sea- marveling at exotic creatures with Captain Nemo.

I found myself between the pages of books, and that is why I write now, it’s why I taught English and literature for so many years, and it’s why my house contains more pounds of books than furniture.

If I’d had my way, I’d have been a fencer…or a starship captain, or a lawyer, or a detective solving crimes. But instead, I am a writer, and that’s the best thing in the world to be if you ask me, because as a writer, I can be all those things and more.

If I hadn’t learned to value the stories between the pages, who knows what would have happened? Certainly not college…teaching…or writing.

Less Than All Blurb:Less-Than-All200x300

Nicholas Danville doesn’t trust his lover to share the depth of his attraction.
He knows full well Victor must marry to fulfill his duty to his aristocratic family.
Assuredly marriage will mean the end of their liaison.

A youthful indiscretion leads to a humiliating encounter between Nicholas Danville and Lord Victor Ware. Nicholas is sent home in disgrace, and Victor continues life in the Ton. Years later, Nicholas’s reproving parents send him to town to attain a degree of polish before he prepares for life as a member of the clergy.

A chance encounter with an old friend leads to a new confrontation between Nicholas and Victor. This time, the attraction between them burns brighter, Nicholas is old enough to know his own mind, and Victor is done with self-denial.

From ballrooms to gardens and opera houses, Victor sets about proving that a passionate liaison between two men is possible even under the narrow gaze of the Ton

Less Than All excerpt:

Peter had evidently taken the time to pull his glossy Hessians back on because Victor had swallowed half the glass before he heard the door click behind him. Lifting the glass to study the amber liquid in the firelight, he spoke without turning around.

“I pay you an adequate allowance to cover your own establishment Peter, exactly because I do not wish to find hordes of drunken revelers have invaded my home.”

“I’m glad for Peter’s sake that you’re a generous man, My Lord Ware. But I’d hardly call our little gathering a horde.”
Victor whirled about to find Danville lounging in altogether too close a proximity. A single lingering glance impressed upon Victor the slender lithe frame, lovingly outlined by tight buff colored breeches, fine white linen shirt open at the neck. Both his discreetly embroidered waistcoat and his black tailcoat hung open. Danville’s inappropriate dishabille enticed him as the devil tempted sinners. He held up a hand as though to ward off the smaller man, but Danville stepped impossibly closer, and Victor groaned as his blood thrummed and his head swam.

Strong arms wrapped around his neck, tugging his head down, and soft wet lips pressed lightly against his mouth. “I’ve waited years for this moment, Ware.”

Then Victor gave up listening, gave up fighting the response of his body as an agile tongue probed the seam of his lips, seeking entrance. He accepted Nicky’s kiss, opened his mouth to suck at the questing tongue. He chased Nicky’s tongue for what seemed like ages, his body hardening and heating with lust.

His arms closed around Nicky’s slender waist, hauling the man close so he could seek solace for the ache of his prick in grinding against the silk of Nicky’s evening breeches. The shattering of his whiskey glass on the hearth broke the mood, and Nicky pulled away, retreating to the door.

“I’m going now.” He paused, hand on the doorknob. A strangely earnest expression crossed his face as he tilted his head to glance back at the stunned Victor. “Shall I return? Or do you forbid Peter’s friends the run of your home?”

He slipped from the room while Victor struggled to frame a coherent response.

Short of funds, Gareth proposes to wager for love. Does Gideon dare play out this hand?

Gideon Westwood is passing time at a debutante ball when he encounters a man from his past he’d give anything to avoid.
Unfortunately for him, Gareth Belmain isn’t in the mood to be pushed aside.

A wager leads to a walk in the garden and a kiss to angry words.

Will a public challenge put an end to any hope they might have for a future together?

A Gentleman Never Does Excerpt:

“If you’re short of funds, I don’t wish to gamble with you for money.”

Gareth smirked, painted lips twisting. “Such an honorable man you are. Fine then, if we shall not play for money, then we play for love.”

A chill washed over Gideon. He shifted on the delicate chair, fearing it might splinter if he abused it too much. “For love?”
Gareth whispered, “You were used to love me dearly. We could play for that.” Gideon’s dismay must have shown on his face, and again he cursed his inability to master the stoic boredom society expected of its young men and women.

“Or maybe not. What stakes would you care to play for, my Corinthian friend?”

The sardonic emphasis on Corinthian hurt a bit, as he had no doubt that Gareth intended it to. It angered Gideon that Gareth held such power over him still, to arouse his emotions, his body this way. Instead of answering the question Gareth had asked, he let his hurt and anger have sway. “Why are you without funds? Too many hours of shopping in Bond Street, my dear?”

Gareth’s blue eyes flickered and his narrow jaw tightened. Gideon’s gaze focused on the tight pinch of his full lips. Those lips had touched his… He bit back a curse as his pantaloons grew uncomfortably tight. “Fuck.” The coarse word was a hoarse whisper that he hoped no one else picked up on.

Gareth’s tension faded and his eyes sparkled with mirth. “No, dear heart. A gentleman never pays his tailor before his gaming debts. If you must know, I played a little too deep the other night at that new hell, off Curzon street.”

The lure of cards had always been impossible for Gareth to resist. They’d often played together at school and through long rainy days at home. So Gideon knew that Gareth might be susceptible to the lure of the cards, but he wasn’t a bad player. While losing wasn’t unheard of, it was rare. “I can float you a bit till quarter day if you like.” Gideon offered.

“Kind of you, but no. If you were inclined to lose to me, that would be one thing. But I am not in need of charity.” The cards were snapped down onto the table sharply. “Cut.”

randalls_romance2__97625.1367358303.300.450Randall’s Romance

When Randall Gretton’s father leaves his family behind to seek out his lost love, Randall finds an unexpected sympathy in his father’s actions. The dashing soldier takes completely to heart his father’s advice to his children, “If you are fortunate enough to find love, then seize it.”

Is a chance encounter at a masquerade Randall’s chance at lifetime love?

Randall’s Romance Excerpt (NSFW)

He closed the door behind himself and turned the key in the lock. The book room was lit by a single porcelain candelabrum on the mantel piece. In the flickering candlelight he located Terence at the fireplace, swirling a snifter of brandy in his hand. Terence turned his head, tensing at the sound of the key turning in the lock.

“Never fear. It’s just me. I’d about given up hope of finding you; there are so very many highwaymen present tonight. Next time you must choose a more singular disguise.” Checking the room carefully for any other entrance, Randall realized Terence had chosen the perfect place for their encounter.

The highwayman glanced back at him, dark eyes glittering through the slits of his long mask. “I’d hate to draw attention.” Hi voice was muffled by the mask, but Randall caught the faint foreign accent he aped and rolled his eyes.

Randall felt his blood heat as that hooded gaze traveled down his form. His cock stirred and this time he made no move to hide his interest. “Truth, Terence, attention is to be avoided, but there is something to be said for ease of recognition in these circumstances.”

He crossed the Aubusson carpet to stand in front of his lover, drew the man to him. Terence came willingly enough into his embrace, but when Randall tried to raise the man’s domino to reveal his features, Terence caught his hand in a gloved grip. “No. Just in case, we must be discreet.”

“I did lock the door, you know.” Randall buried his face in the fabric and tightened his arms, crushing Terence along his length. The man’s costume was a miracle of tailoring, for he seemed to have even added padding to his narrow shoulders and lifts to his boots.

“Yes, but that might not be the only key.”

When anthropologist Georgia Cortez heads to rural Georgia from New Mexico, she’s on the trail of a juicy old legend. Haley Falls seems like just the place for old-time ghost stories and spooky hauntings, but she’s on the hunt for something far rarer, a survival of an old sect of medieval knights.

Caid and Alton are Haley Fall natives, and they used to be best friends. A falling out years ago ended in them not speaking, even after Alt left town and returned older, if not wiser. They unite when it comes to a nosy scholar like Georgia picking apart their heritage, and putting their whole town in danger. When boys meet girl, though, they decide wooing is far better than scaring the lady off, and they set about distracting Georgia in the best way.

While their three way romance heats up, so does the intrigue in Haley Falls, until the three of them are facing a danger far worse than falling in love with each other.

Georgia Knights Excerpt:

“Boys…” She felt all flushed and tipsy, like her skin was too hot. It was amazing.

“Alt…” Caid stared at Alton over her head. “You. Damn it.” There was no anger there. Just a strangled heat.

Alton lifted one eyebrow. “Whut? We’re all adults here. There’s no reason not to enjoy ourselves.”

Well, that was true enough. She sure was enjoying them. A lot.

Georgia took a bit of pizza and offered it to Caid, holding it up to his lips. “Want some?”

“Mmmhmm.” Caid nipped it out of her fingers, licking at a little sauce that slid down to her knuckle.

She watched as he licked her finger clean, then offered a bite to Alton, going from sweet smile to wicked grin.

“Tasty.” Alton was more blatant, nibbling her fingers along with the pizza, loving on her.

Her nipples were hard as rocks, her belly taut and tense.

“Lord, Caid. She smells good, huh?” Alton leaned on her, smiling across at Caid, hand pushing Caid’s against her under the table.

“You both do.” Caid said it on a moan, Adam’s apple bobbing.

“Y’all are enough to make me breathless.” Talk about mating rituals. Jesus. She could write a bestselling erotic thesis about them.

“You’re the hottest thing I’ve seen since I laid eyes on Caid, and he’s been resisting me for years.”

Oh. Oh, God. Alton obviously had no filters. She took a moment to visualize that — fine bodies moving, rubbing. Kissing. Oh. Pretty.

Caid made another one of those noises, sounding almost pained. “Y’all.”

“I. Is there somewhere… The cook’s watching us.” And she wasn’t putting on a show for the sixteen-year-old, acne-ridden mouth breather.

“My place.” Alton threw a bunch of bills on the table, waving to the little teenagers who watched them avidly. “I need a box, kids.”

“Alton has a place almost up to the falls,” Caid whispered, breath hot on her neck.

“Okay.” She sounded like a phone sex worker, all breathy and husky.

They packed up the pizza and headed out, Alton hustling them back to her little rental SUV. He didn’t give either one of them time to think, either, just groped them both impartially.

“Alton, you’re dangerous. Sit in the back seat.”

“What? Why?” He pouted at her, but Caid punched his shoulder.

“Because no one can drive with you all over them, Alt. Get.”

She gave in to her baser instincts and went up on tiptoe to kiss the corner of Alton’s mouth. “I have to focus, huh?”

“Oh.” Alton blinked, those pretty gray eyes bright. “Got it. I’ll just sit in the back and…” He made an unmistakable motion with his hand.

She swatted him, chuckling. “Now, now. Don’t pop too soon.” She winked at Caid, offering him a quick kiss, too.

Caid surprised her with a kiss that curled her toes, capturing her mouth for a long moment before moving away. He went and sat in the passenger seat, staring, focused.

“Oh.” Wow. Okay. Driving.

Driving would be good.

Born and raised in the north-west of England, K.C.Wells always loved writing. Words were important. Full stop. However, when childhood gave way to adulthood, the writing ceased, as life got in the way.

K.C. discovered erotic fiction in 2009, where the purchase of a ménage storyline led to the startling discovery that reading about men in love was damn hot. In 2012, arriving at a really low point in life led to the desperate need to do something creative. An even bigger discovery waited in the wings – writing about men in love was even hotter…

K.C. now writes full-time and is loving every minute of her new career.

Confetti, Cake, and Confessions Blurb:

Tony Porter and Marc Powell had lived in the same house for the past eight years, since their single parents moved in together. When Tony’s mother Marie and Marc’s father Dennis decide to tie the knot at last, it should be an occasion of great joy for everyone. Except all Marc can think about is having to spend the next two weeks with the young man he’s been in love with since he was sixteen.

Tony feels so torn about Marc coming home from college. He keeps telling himself that it’s wrong to feel this way about him. After all, in two weeks’ time they’ll be related. So when the two young men are thrown together to prepare for the wedding, tensions rise and discoveries are made.

It’s going to be a very long two weeks, and a wedding that no one will ever forget.

Confetti, Cake, and Confessions Exclusive Excerpt:

Tony sat up on the edge of the bed and put his head in his hands.

I am such a mess right now.

Everything was going wrong. He’d asked Tammy out because that’s what you’re supposed to do. His mates at college had already begun making comments on his lack of a girlfriend and he’d panicked. He could’ve chosen some quiet, shy girl who wouldn’t have made demands on him, but no, he had to go and ask out Tammy Wentworth, probably the biggest slut on campus. He groaned aloud at the thought. Okay, so she was a good cover, but there was going to come a time pretty soon when she wouldn’t take no for an answer. There had already been signs of that.

And then what the fuck do I do?

Because there was no way he was going to have sex with Tammy. No way on this planet.

Oh, Mum had been delighted, had made noises like ‘it’s about time’ and had squealed and hugged him, much to his discomfort. Dennis had grinned and then, to Tony’s horror, he’d taken him aside and asked quietly if they needed to have That Talk. Tony had almost heard the capitalized letters. He’d squirmed and Dennis had taken pity on him, patted his arm and given a serious nod, as if that conversation could wait for another time.

Like hell it could.

Then there was the whole Marc scenario. And that was a real mess.

A PaulB Review: Elijah’s Ghost (A Wizard’s Touch #4) by Amber Kell

Rating: 4  stars out of 5

“It only takes one event to change the world.”

Elijah's Ghost cover

Elijah Trenton is an average student at wizard school. His true abilities are found out after an accident in one of his classes. He must learn how to live life with his new found skills and the attention of Devin Stewartson, his crush in one of his classes. He must also deal with family and enemies who want to use this power for their advantage while trying to keep himself and his friends safe.

Elijah’s Ghost is the fourth installment of Amber Kell’s “A Wizard’s Touch” series. While you can read the book as a stand-alone, there are parts of the plot which reference past events in the series.

The book starts out in the middle of a History of Spell Casting class, where Elijah Trenton is listening to his professor drone on and on. The only things that make the class bearable are the professor’s assistant who summarizes the class on cue card, his roommate Porter and his crush, Devin Stewartson, one of the “D” triplets introduced in earlier books. Elijah is surprised when the assistant yells at him to take cover, as it is the first thing she has ever said. After making sure Porter and Devin are safe, all hell breaks loose in the classroom, with the professor ending up dead.

Up until this point, everybody has considered Elijah an average wizard at best, including Elijah himself. He has failed to master the basic spells needed to pass his classes and hopes to just graduate and teach Magic Theory, considered the most basic of all classes. When the Headmaster of the school questions what has occurred, it is learned that Elijah is a necromancer. His world is then turned upside down.

Enrolled in new classes and a new tutor hired by his father, Elijah and the school learn not only can he interact with the dead, but is the most powerful necromancer to come along in ages. Because of his strength Elijah is unable to banish his avatar. Devin suggests that they talk to Jaynell, the powerful wizard who lives at the local wolf pack house for help.

Once at the pack house, Elijah discovers that it is haunted. Elijah then attempts to cast the spirit out. Back at the school, Elijah and Devin have a romantic encounter, but Elijah is troubled because Devin did not act the same as he had before they went to the pack house. Porter tells Elijah that Devin is possessed by the spirit Elijah tried to cast out and only killing the spirit will free Devin. Porter does this but the result is killing Devin. Elijah must now go to Hades and reclaim Devin’s soul for him to live again.

I enjoyed how Elijah slowly starts to accept his powers through the book. He has been beat down from family and fellow classmates as lucky to be at wizard school. When he discovers his powers, he feels like a screw up because he has not recognized his gifts to date. As he begins to learn of his powers, the negative feelings are still there even though everybody is telling him how special his powers are.

The courtship between Devin and Elijah was well done. Devin is tentative with Elijah because Elijah’s world has been turned upside down with his new skills and he wants Elijah to have time to adjust. Elijah is tentative because of his own low self esteem and knows Devin is bisexual. An encounter with a girl after one of Devin’s brothers clears up earlier misunderstandings and Elijah realizes Devin wants him.

I enjoy how Ms. Kell brings in new elements into her series, this time including ghost to go along with the wizards and weres. She includes characters from previous books in the series, but they play a supporting role. With Jaynell and Elijah now on board, Ms. Kell has set up future books for a potentially cataclysmic showdown with a future (or past as we are dealing with the paranormal) powerful enemy. I look forward to see where she takes these characters forward.

A MelanieM Review: Midsummer Curse (Midsummer #2) by Megan Derr

Rating: 4.25 stars out of 5

Midsummer Curse coverBrayton’s a lone wolf.  He’s also a “jack of all trades”, roaming the country fixing  problems for the supernaturals who call on him.  A call from a friend sends Brayton to supernatural town of Midsummer’s Night where a curse on the town’s gremlin threatens all things mechanical and worse in Midsummer’s Night. It should be a easy job, find the person responsible, have them break the curse and the gremlin and the town’s problem is fixed.  But nothing is ever so simple in Midsummer’s Night.

Ferdinand (Ferdy to friends), the town’s adorable gremlin, is miserable. His passion and nature is to fix and tinker  with all manner of things mechanical.  But someone or something has put a curse on him and now everything he touches falls to pieces…coffee pots, cars, clocks…everything.  His only hope lies in the gorgeous werewolf who has just arrived in town to fix his problem.  Ferdy has just broken up with his boyfriend and doesn’t want another.  So why can’t he get Brayton out of his head and heart?

Brayton’s stymied.  Everyone seems to love Ferdy and no one can figure out why he’s been cursed.  Something peculiar is going on and Brayton is determined to get to the meaning of it all.  But all he can think of is Ferdy, how the endearing pint sized gremlin smells and giggles.  What is happening to them both? Only time and a keen nose will sniff out the cause of their problems and much, much more.

Who knew gremlins could be so endearing?  Obviously Megan Derr, because with Ferdy she has created a pint-sized character full of vulnerability, sweetness, and a innate need to tinker with everything that has gears and mechanical moving parts.  With Ferdy and the reader its love at first sight.  For others it might take a sniff or  two before a powerful connection is made.  That’s where the other wonderful character of Brayton comes in.  Brayton is the odd were known as a lone wolf.  He wanders without a pack on business brought to him by word of mouth (or whatever parts necessary).  Brayton is snarky, self assured, and powerful in his own right.  Ferdy’s  total opposite or is he?  That’s one of the real delights of this story.

The chief plot of Midsummer Curse is a mystery.  Who and why cursed Ferdy so that everything mechanical he touches falls immediately to pieces?  As he is the town’s chief mechanic and handyman, this poses a huge problem for all.  That is hurts Ferdy horribly only gradually comes out as well. There are other small plot threads woven through this story that are equally enjoyable and twisty.  I love it when that happens.

Midsummer Curse may just be my favorite of the series.  A romantic duo of werewolf and gremlin?  Be still my heart and let my feet find a path to Midsummer’s Night and more stories to come.

♢♢♢♢♢♢♢♢♢♢♢♢♢

Interviewing Lissa Kasey!

STRW-. You clearly love Anime? Why? What do you love about it?

Lissa: I love the intensity of the plot and the art. A lot of writing comes from showing emotion through words that are not obvious. Anime/manga is like that only showing emotion though pictures. I wish I could draw because I would be a mangaka.

STRW-  How do you feel your love for Anime impacts your writing and characters?

Lissa:  A lot of my fight scenes are very “anime” style. I picture what it would look like in an anime and write it that way. My romances are often the same as manga/anime, the seme usually chasing the uki until the uki realizes he needs the seme.

STRW-. Favorite anime characters and stories?

Lissa:  Too many to list really. I think my favorite story of all time is a short manga called Fake Fur by Satomi Yamagata.

STRW-. What was the inspiration for Hidden Gem?

Lissa: I started working on it really not knowing where I was going to go with it. I knew I wanted a different take on shifters. I had a slew of medical problems and thought, hey what if all this guessing the doctors are doing lead to something else (like shifter). And of course the idea grew from there.

STRW– Do you have a favorite character in this stories and who is it?

Lissa: Aki. He’s not me at all. He’s very feminine, loves shoes, and really needs someone to boss him around. He was so outside of my comfort zone that I fell in love with him. I hope everyone else does too.

STRW-. What resources/background did you draw on to create this universe?

Lissa:  For this book I stepped into the world of BDSM. Something that terrified me. I actually found a very nice guy who lives the lifestyle 24/7 that answered some very stupid questions. He’s got a dedication in the front of the book for being so patient with me. The rest just comes from my head and some minor Holocaust research.

STRW:  Favorite genre to write in?

Lissa:  Contemporary urban fantasy. I like things that are dark and edgy, filled with monsters (who aren’t always the ones with fangs), and complicated story lines that keep me coming back.

STRW-What do you find sexy in a character?

Lissa:  Well sexy is an odd term for me since I identify as asexual. I don’t find any of them “sexy” per say. More appealing is the personality, originality and confidence of a character. Not all of them have to be super heroes. I like the guy who is a little scared to step forward too, so long as he knows it and faces it if he has too.

STRW- What childhood book or story had the greatest impact on you as a child and writer today?

Lissa:  Bunnicula. Isn’t that crazy? Bunny vampires. Loved those books. Hated to read until I discovered them. Thought all reading was about stupid things like Timmy falling down a well. I couldn’t identify with Old Yeller or Where the Red Fern Grows, but talking cats, dogs, and bunnies who suck the life from veggies? That was totally my deal.

STRW- Not crazy at all.  I love Bunnicula.  What’s next for Lissa Kasey?

Lissa:  I’m finishing up my first contemporary. No supernatural in this one and I tell you that’s been hard. I also hope to finish Dominion 5 this year which is Sam’s story about about 50% done. I’ve been mapping out the sequel to Hidden Gem, which will be Paris’ story, then off to Candy’s. I hope to keep writing like mad.

First Glimpse by Lissa Kasey

Aki swept up a bottle of McNaughton’s favorite scotch and headed toward the broad Irishman. The man’s shoulders were arched forward, back tense, hair a sexy mess, and face covered with a couple days’ growth. Obviously the cop was on a difficult case. The detective hadn’t yet asked for him, just for his usual meal—almost bloody steak with a baked potato.

“You look like you could use a drink,” Aki told him as he slid into the chair beside him. He turned an empty glass over and poured three fingers of the golden liquid.

McNaughton sighed, his dark eyes roaming over Aki’s small body, platinum blond hair pulled up and styled with sparkling pins, see-thru knit top, and super-short skirt, then over his bare legs down to the gleaming heels. The shoes were a silver mesh of crystals that slid up just past his ankles. A gift from McNaughton. The cop sucked in a deep breath and slid his hand over the covered part of Aki’s thigh. He knew better than to touch bare flesh to bare flesh. Aki was a cognitive psi, could see entire lives of horrors with a single touch, and he was sure McNaughton’s past was filled with a lot of nasty memories.

“Wish you had time for me tonight. But I’ve got a feeling you’re booked up tight.” He glanced back at the room bustling with companions and potential customers. Aki was the only psi in the room, his pale-pupiled blue eyes telling the world that he was different.

“I’m sure Bart can fit you in.” Aki’s eyes scanned the room until he found his boss, who was engaged with negotiations with another client. “Looks like you need some trouble eased tonight.” He leaned in close enough his breath ran across McNaughton’s cheek.

McNaughton turned his head, lips nearly close enough to touch. “Would love a bit of time with your shine.”

“Words like honey, McNaughton.”

The cop flashed him one of his rare, heart-stopping smiles then nodded as Bart appeared beside them. “Table seven is ready, Aki. Number one.” Bart told him.

Aki grabbed Bart’s wrist with a gloved hand. “The cop needs some time tonight. You can make that happen, right?”

“Of course.” Bart nodded to them and took Aki’s vacated seat and Aki made his way to his next client of the evening. There were only two services Aki performed. A hand job and a blow job, one and two. This client wanted number one—which meant he was cheap since rarely did anyone ask for a hand job from him. But his prices were astronomical anyway.

“Hello,” Aki smiled at the man as he slid into the chair opposite him. The client was dressed nice, button down shirt, pressed pants, but he was bald and a little heavier around the waist. A politician probably. “If you’re ready we can head upstairs.”
The man barely spoke, but he leered, eyes tracing over Aki’s form more like he was cattle than a night of entertainment. Even in his worst moments McNaughton had never done that. It wasn’t appreciation, but something darker. Aki sighed internally and hoped this would be fast. He knew a thousand ways to get a man off in minutes. Something about him just set off Aki’s creep radar.

“I hear some wait months for the pleasure of your time,” the man said with slightly accented speech.

Not usually. The only ones who waited weeks were because their schedule and Aki’s conflicted or because they’d done something to upset him or Bart. Most clients got in within a few days if not the same day of requesting Aki’s time. And regulars were always given precedence over someone not yet vetted like this client. “If I don’t please you I can see if Preston or Royce is available.”
“I was hoping for Candy originally.”

Was always good to be told he was second choice. Aki gritted his teeth. “Candy only serves a special kind of client. And he does have a wait list.” Mostly because he took clients who wanted a little more kink than any of the other male companions preferred. Aki was going to recommend this client be removed from the premises after the service was over.

“I guess you’ll have to do then. Won’t you?” He gave Aki a chilling smile.

Bastard. Aki got up from his seat and offered his gloved hand to the man who followed closely. They’d reached the stairs when the man grabbed him, yanked Aki against him and shoved his hand up Aki’s skirt, groping him and sending him into a spiral of nightmares.

A dark room. The metallic stink of blood. Screams. The sound of knives being sharpened. Metal bars clanking. Crying. Pain. The music of an ice cream truck. How odd. It was all ripped away a moment later, but Aki’s stomach was already heaving. The small plate of fruit and yogurt he’d had for dinner was not going to stay down.

Someone carried him unceremoniously to the private companion bathroom near the kitchen and set him in front of the toilet just as the mash of fruits and dairy came up. Aki heaved a couple of minutes, his brain swirling with the images that thankfully began to fade just as quickly as they’d come. With any luck he’d be able to brush his teeth, wash his face and go about his work day.

He glanced up to find Manny, the head of security standing at the door. McNaughton knelt beside Aki. Had held his hair back and even used his jacket to cover Aki’s bottom. The skirts really were too short.

“Bart is already having the guy removed. He should never have touched you like that. Sorry I didn’t get to you quicker,” Manny told Aki. “Grateful to you, Detective, for responding so quickly.”

McNaughton stroked Aki’s back, using the soft material of the sweater to run circles over his spine. “Want to talk about it?”
Aki sighed. “Same crap. Just weird. Darkness, crying, smelled blood. Heard knives.” He shook his head. “The guy could work at a butcher for all I know. The memories get so jumbled.” Often with his own horrific past. “Thought I heard a kid. And bars rattling like in a jail. And the music from an ice cream truck.”

McNaughton nodded like it made perfect sense to him and helped Aki get up and make his way to the sink where there were spare toothbrushes and endless varieties of paste. The cop leaned over and kissed Aki’s hair. “Gotta go. I’ll have Bart reschedule me sometime this week though. Love that you wore my shoes.” He was gone a moment later.

Aki cleaned up and made his way back to work. At least the night was almost over. He was sad that McNaughton hadn’t stayed. Would have liked to see that smile another time or two. At least the rest of the night flew by without incident, even if the detective didn’t return.

“Sleeping with me tonight?” Candy asked as he stripped out of their work clothes, leaving just a pair of bright pink underwear and crawled into bed. His purple hair was already brushed and eyes heavy with sleep.

“Please,” Aki whispered. He stripped off everything but his underwear too. After putting his shoes and pins away, he washed his face.

“Heard that guy touched you. What a jerk.”

“He wanted you to begin with.” Aki curled up beside his best friend.

Candy flicked off the light. “I would have brought him down a few pegs.”

Aki smiled, but he didn’t want to think of the horrible man at all. Those memories just needed to go away. He had enough of his own to battle with each day. He fell asleep hoping to wake up with less nasty memories each day.

The next afternoon Aki was up early and at Artie’s for breakfast—best 24/7 diner in the area—when McNaughton arrived. The man sat down at his table without asking and pushed a pair of slim, jeweled, yellow flat sandals into Aki’s hands. “What’s this for?” Aki asked.

He just shook his head. He threw a stack of cash on the table and motioned to the waitress. “Anything he wants is on me.” He then got up from the table and headed for the door.

“Well that was weird,” Aki said to LuAnn, the waitress.

She pointed at the Vid screen. “He had a rough night. Caught the guy who was killing kids.” The Vidscreen was turned to the news. Something about a man named the “Ice Cream Killer” had been captured. Apparently he used an ice cream truck to lure kids in, kidnapped them, raped them and killed them. Real monster.

A picture popped up of the guy. It was the client from the Gem. Maybe that’s why McNaughton was at the Gem. No matter what he hoped the detective visited him tonight. The new yellow shoes would need a new skirt to match…
